Saturday Racing Tips - Randwick Racecourse 15//04/23

This Saturday's racing at Randwick will be a thrilling finale to the Randwick Carnival, featuring a ten race card with a total prize money of $3.5 million. The highlight of the day will be the All Aged Stakes, a Group 1 race over 1400m, along with the Champagne Stakes, also a Group 1 race, over 1600m. In addition, the card will feature four Group 3 races, making it an exciting day for racing enthusiasts. The track is expected to be soft (5), with the rail out seven metres from the 1000m to the Winning Post and out four metres for the remainder of the track.

BEST BET - #1 - Osipenko 
Intersting little group three we have to kick off the card and I am keen to be on Osipenko if we don’t get too much rain overnight he will be one of the hardest to beat. He was very good in the George Ryder stakes before coming to the Doncaster where he looked to be the winner for a long way but didn’t have too much for them at the end of the run but finished only a length or two off Mr Brightside. Form around these isn’t any better than that and think he has more left in the tank than most here.

THE DANGER - #3- Pericles
Pericles ia very good horse, probably the best in the race talent wise for James Cummings. I am more concerned that there isn’t too much left in the tank at this point in his prep. He was very good in the Derby two weeks ago but when Jmac asked for the effort when it was needed, he didn’t have an answer. Back to 2000m looks good but just a question of what he has left for us now.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Williamsburg (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Williamsburg was awesome last preparation but really hasn’t done too much this time in. However, he really looked to pick things up a month ago in the Rosehill Guineas when finishing third behind Lindermann and the aforementioned Pericles. Forgive his last run when not handling the Heavy up in trip, back to the trip he loves, small field and he can beat these if he’s at his best now.

BEST BET - #3 - Opal Ridge (BEST BET) 
Tipping in this race because I am very interested in my top three selections but think Opal Ridge can get one over this time in on Magic Time. She got into not the best of spots last time out in the PJ Bell from the wide gate and then lost all momentum getting bumped around but still eventually set off to motor into fourth. Longer is better, I think 1400m is her sweet spot, she likes give in the ground and draws for a much softer run.

THE DANGER - #1 -  Magic Time - $1.85
Market respect for Magic Time is for genuine reason who won first up in the PJ Bell that Opal Ridge raced in where she let them get ahead in the run and then going through her gears fast late for a very impressive win, she’ll only be fitter now, goes out to longer distance and just has to hold her form to win again.

VALUE BET  - #8 - Olentia
Olentia is a Chirs Waller trained horse who has gone a bit under the radar this year but I’ve always thought she had a bit of class about her. She stacked up a couple wins late last year before taking a little break over summer and returning on the Heavy at the Hawkesbury and won in the stewards room there but it was a brilliant return in an overall tough run. That was just under two weeks ago, gets Joao Morreira on now and has the upside on these.

BEST BET - #1 - Zaaki (NEXT BEST)
Zaaki returns today and always has claims to being on the best horses in the country. He hasn’t been seen at the races since late November last year when he dominated them in the Champions Stakes at Flemington, leading and having too much for them to run down at the end. The stable have tried him a few times since then and the latest was last week on the synthetic here where he looks to be back in great order. Jmac is back on and they have won 8 from 9 when combining. Keen on his return.

THE DANGER - #12 - Giga Kick
Giga Kick could very well be the best sprinter in the country still after going ever so close in the TJ smith where he was ridden forward and just didn’t have what it took to keep I wish I win at bay when coming second. That was his second up effort so still has upside and if they are going to try 1400m now does look like the ideal time. He’ll handle the wet and if it’s drier it’ll only aid his chances more. Honest as they come, leading contender.

VALUE BET - #4 - Cascadian
Cascadian is racing in arguably career best form and Cummings is having the season of dreams currentIy. You could make a case to say the rising nine-year-old has never gone better and he is the defending champ in the race although his best form has come at 1600 to 2000m. He’s been freshend since winning the Australian Cup three weeks ago. If we get a fair bit of rain overnight I will have to have something on him, tricky gate but he has Nash on and must be respected.
