Saturday Racing Tips - Randwick Racecourse 15/07/23

Big racing set for Randwick racecourse tomorrow and it’s hard to remember that we have even put the Group 1 racing season behind us as we kick on for more solid racing with one race in open grade to kick us off and the rest to be contested in BM72+ grade, with two of the races being in BM88 grade which should be riveting. I am keen to get stuck into things and below I have outlined my best betting spots on what appears to be quite a tricky card. Follow me below!

BEST BET - #7 - Hi Dubai (BEST BET)
It’s pretty hard to knock Hi Dubai who seems to get the perfect setup third up here to go over a winner. The three year old resumed in a modest BM64 at Kensington to start just his second preparation about a month ago when very game in defeat, running into second place before going to Rosehill a couple weeks back where he led and gave a strong kick in the straight but his condition just told very late when finding one better in one of Waller’s better runners on the day. He’s third up now, hard fit, gets in light again and from barrier six should find the lead easily and have enough to hold them off here. It’s hard to see him running badly.

THE DANGER - #9 - Tintookie
The form lines from Tintookie are all around Hi Dubai and have been very impressive. She’s a classy filly from the WIddup stable who has had two runs this time in and has placed in both, both coming over the 1100m at Rosehill. She most recently ran in the Hi Dubai race a couple weeks ago where she had to overcome a wide run that saw her settle at the rear of the field but came on so strongly from the back there to finish third. Out 100m in distance now looks very positive as well as more to offer third up and only has to settle a touch closer than last time to win this.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Orlabent
I just don’t see why we are getting such a big price on the Kris Lees trained Olabent who is stepping up from the Provincial’s for this assignment, which would explain a bigger quote than his last few but he has been dominant and can keep going with it now. He’s won three back to back races and now he gets out onto a larger track when hard fit, which should only aid his run style. Dylan Gibbons has been with him thus far and sticks which is a huge positive and I think they can run a massive race at odds.

BEST BET - #5 - Major Artie (NEXT BEST) 
I think that the Richard and Will Freedman trained prospect can resume a winner here today. Major Artie had a few successful preps for the Waterhouse and Bott stable before being sold to the Freedman’s earlier this year and now comes off a 23 week spell looking very sharp from the trials and with a key booking of flying apprentice Zac Lloyd. He’s had two public trials recently, both coming at the end of last month where he absolutely trucked along to win a Rosehill 1030m before running in a 1200m Randwick trial where he seemingly just did his own thing, moving along very nicely to finish second there. That recent Randwick trial had two winners come from it last Saturday. The market has already brought him in from $15 to $6.00 at the time of writing this…

THE DANGER - #9 - Cosmic Minerva
Cosmic Minerva has been going very well this time in for the Baker stable since being gelded. He’s had two runs back from a 19 week break and should be ready to peak here third up. Last time out he was forced to set rear on the fence from the wide back and seemingly never being in the race but the way he found the line late to beat all but Windshadow was simply insane. He’s hard fit now, gets in with just 52kg on his back and in the small field can settle closer and take this out.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Battleton
I am giving plenty of respect to the Bjorn Baker trained Battleton who we had in our free horse racing tips last weekend at this track and he was so impressive in winning that day when not getting a split until the 150m but when it came he powered away for a huge win. Gibbons retains the ride and Battleton actually comes into this assignment better at the weights than last time out. I don’t see any reason why he can’t make it back to back wins. Great race.

BEST BET - #6 - Logan Street Lion
It’s pretty hard to get away from Logan Street Lion here for Chris Waller who just wins races like these at his home base. Logan Street Lion comes into this third up and ready to peak. He resumed in the Heavy at Rosehill at the end of April when he was bumped at the start and found a bit of trouble through the run but finished well into the placings. He then raced two weeks ago at Rosehill and finished down the track behind Attractable but looked like he needed that run to bridge the gap stepping out to this distance range. Hyeronimus should get a cheap run of things from barrier six and they will be hard to hold out.

THE DANGER - #2 - Attractable 
Attractable has hit an outstanding patch of form and is going to be dangerous undoubtebly with Bullock aboard. He’s been patiently worked along this prep after resuming all the way back in March but in his last two, both coming over the 1500m at Rosehill, he’s been an absolute jet, winning both in smart fashion. Historically, the 1800m is a bit on the thin side of his distance range but this is his first prep for the stable and has been flying lately which is all you can go by, no knock.

VALUE BET - #13 - Bazooka (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
Bazooka should relish stepping out the 1800m for David Payne. He was three weeks between runs when racing third up in his prep last time out in the same race as Attractable at Rosehill over the 1500m, which is really on the thin side of his firing range and he was still great from the back there to finish third behind Attractable and Zoushack. He’ll be fitter for that outing and now gets an extra 300m to come on and I think he is a sneaky flying chance at odds.
