Saturday Racing Tips - Randwick Racecourse 16/09/23

Racing returns to Randwick this Saturday for a huge ten race card that sees the inaugural 7 Stakes to be run over the mile and with nine big support cards as we are well and truly underway with Spring racing. The rail is out seven meters, the track is rated a good 4 and all things are pointing towards it being a very competitive and exciting day. I have run through the race card and picked out a best and next best bet as well as a best outside chance of the day. Follow me below as I outline my best betting spots for the Randwick card below!

BEST BET - #9 - Gan Teorainn (BEST BET) 
Gan Teorainn is a very nice horse for Chris Waller and I think he will improve sharply into this third up. She stepped out second up two weeks ago at this track / trip where she sat off a hot tempo and closed off the race really powerfully when strong through the line behind a smart mare in Just Fine. She’s got more upside than most of the field and is nearing something of her peak, if she doesn’t get too far back in the run she likely takes this out.

THE DANGER - #10 - Straight Acer
This isn’t an overly strong race relative to what Straight Acer has been contesting lately. He stepped out a fortnight ago in a midway here over the 1400m two weeks ago where she let them get well in front and then worked into the run on the corner and powered away from them for a dominant win. She looked very strong through the line there so I think that out to 1600m should be good, especially getting well down in the weights and I think he will look the winner a long way.

VALUE BET  - #5 - Logan Street Lion
Logan Street lion has been up awhile and hasn’t won in some time but I think he strikes a winnable race here. He raced at this track and trip two weeks ago where he got a nice spot behind the speed and came on very strongly before just fading in the last 100m in the same race as the aforementioned Gan Teorainn. He will be fitter and sharper for the run and strikes a winnable race here.

BEST BET - #6 - Just Fine (NEXT BEST) 
Just Fine debuted in Australia over the mile at this track a fortnight back and whilst it wasn’t an overly strong race that he ran in the way that he won was extremely impressive when motioning through his gears to smash them in the manner of a very smart horse. His best overseas form is at this distance and so that win really only reads as a formality. I think he will cement himself as the no. 1 seed for  The Metropolitan with a win here and likely takes this out.

THE DANGER - #4 - Montefilia
Montefilia is a horse I have plenty of time for and she’s stepping out for her third run of the preparation for Chris Waller and should be getting close to fit enough for a win even if her sights are likely set on bigger races in the future. She last ran in The Chelmsford two weeks ago where she chased very hard late in the piece and clearly is looking for longer. She gets that now and shapes up well here, keen to see how she goes under Collett’s steering.

VALUE BET  - #5 - Navajo Peak
Navajo Peak is hard to count out here after an impressive win in the Chelsmford a fortnight back when making sharp improvements second up. Schofield jumped on the ride then and gave him a sharp steer with a lot of intent and it paid off when he powered away from them in the final 100m for a big win. He will be even fitter now third up and strikes a winnable race third up, don’t count him out.

BEST BET - #1 - Think It Over 
Think It Over is a bomb horse once he gets going and I think he has been worked towards this race for Kery Parker. He’s got a mean third up record with three wins and three placings in six third up runs and now comes into this off the back of a smart third placing in the Chelmsford two weeks ago to record two  awesome runs back from a very long spell. He stays at the trip now, third up, all signs point towards a big showing.

THE DANGER - #9 - Fangirl
Fangirl is going to be tough to beat here for Chris Waller after taking out the Winx Stakes and affirming all the speculation of her star status. J mac rode her an absolute belter there when keeping her near the speed before letting her do her own work in the straight to motor away from them and win very well. He’s been kept for this since then and I think that is for the purpose of bigger races than this but her quality should carry her very far in this. 

VALUE BET - #8 - Pericles (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Pericles has been flying for James Cummings this prep and is well within his striking range in this race. He gets the grounding and map to suit and I think that despite the class in this field he might just have what it takes to pinch this race. His Tramway win a fortnight ago was extremely solid and he doesn’t need to find too much more off the back of that to be winning.

Making a multi at Randwick is going to be pretty tricky on such a serious race day but I think that if we focus on those that are well weighted, those that are locally trained and those that are hard fit, primed for these races then we have a good chance of taking out this multi.
