Saturday Racing Tips - Randwick Racecourse 19/08/23

Saturday racing has arrived at Randwick and we have a massive ten race card with the majority of the contests being contested in high Benchmark grade where a bunch of the most exciting horses in the country make their returns to racing tothe anticipated Spring racing season to come as well as the feature race of the day, the first Group 1 Race of the Spring Carnival ‘Winx Stakes’. I won’t be covering this race as we already have Winx Stakes tips! I am keen to get stuck into things so follow me below as I run through the day!

BEST BET - #13–Ivan’s Hero (NEXT BET)
Proved itself 2 weeks ago in NSW at Rosehill, but need to set a pace and get a lead early. I don’t see why this horse can’t doing it again in the field it’s facing. In some good form and of course if being ridden by James McDonald, a proven winner. 

THE DANGER - #9–Queensmaker
Has placed in the top 2 last 6 starts, winning two. Loves this track in the past and should set a good position early. Strong field this race but it has proven when being challenged before. Has won at this distance and can do it again. Should say in form, no reason to suggest otherwise. Expected it to be in the leaders, and maintain.

VALUE BET  - #17–Principessa
Loves this track, coming 1st and 3rd in the last two its raced here, with a solid record prior. In the middle of a hefty spell having raced just on Wednesday (it won), and 2 weeks ago where it came 3rd. Could have some tired legs but at the odds we are getting for it, it’s hard to look past. Like this distance, and weather.

BEST BET - #14–Fawkner Park (BEST OF THE DAY) 
This horse has won 4 of it’s last 5, placing 2nd in its last start. Fawkner Park races this distance well. The only thing holding this horse back is that it isn’t used to Randwick. Although I don’t think this will affect it too much, and should come out firing today and continue the form it has been in. Odds are way too high for the quality it brings.

THE DANGER - #12–Bonny Ezra
Hard to look past Bonny Ezra at Randwick, has proved itself time and time again here. It hasn’t gone too well at the lower distance races, and has decided to come back up to the 2000m. Last time it raced at this distance was at Randwick and it came 3rd. Wouldn’t be surprised if the same thing happened again.

VALUE BET  - #4–Desert Icon
Another Icon at Randwick and icon across the country, Desert Icon is back with another spell. Ridden by James McDonald I think you can get why this is a value bet. Had a good last spell and is fresh and ready to start this one with a bang. The field is quite strong for this horse, but I can see it starting well with the new Spell, value at its finest.

BEST BET - #3–Platinum Jubilee
In form not only at this course but overall. Has proven time and time again this isn’t a horse you should underestimate. Trained by Gai Waterhouse this horse has fallen short its past few, although coming 2nd for 3 of them. It’s new to this distance but that shouldn’t stop it as it has raced in similar ones. Looking to bounce back from a bad Golden Slipper, hard to look past it. My favourite for this race.

THE DANGER - #5 - Kimochi
First race back for a new spell, went well in the trial. It’s loved Randwick in the past and coming 1st and 3rd in it’s last two here in the previous spell. With fresh legs and the love of the weather and track this horse is one to be careful of. It’s raced this distance before. We should expect it to be a little off pace, but pick up it’s form towards the end.

VALUE BET - #8 - Taormina (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
New up and coming horse from trained by Gai Waterhouse. Has only had two official races previously winning both, even being challenged and holding off. Hasn’t finished outside top 3 in trails, but the 2/2 from main races is what really matters. Shown its ability and it should show it again in striking fashion. I can’t believe the odds we are getting for Taormina here, and I would love to see how it progresses into the future.

Whilst it is scary to tip in some of the bigger field races I think that with it being early in the season and a lot of runners being on resumption that there are some clear top picks in each field and as such I have combined my best runners of the day into a place multi. Whilst it might not be the same level of value we generally get I think that it is a worthwhile bet and has a good chance of coming in.
