Saturday Racing Tips - Randwick Racecourse 20/04/24

One more Group 1 day comes back to Randwick tomorrow with the $1.5 million Schweppes All Aged Stakes and the $1 million Moet & Chandon Champagne Stakes and I am very keen on the day’s racing and have thoroughly run through the card and picked out my best betting spots for some of the stronger races of the day and outlined them below so follow me for a very exciting day of racing at Randwick this Saturday!

BEST BET - #12 - Scarlet Oak
I am taking a punt at longer odds on Scarlet Oak for Chris Waller. This girl is well bred, with siblings being group placed and she comes here for her first Australian start after debuting at Matamata where she circled the field to win in a dominant effort late. Her Warwick Farm trial win last week was electric and I think with LLoyd aboard they can make an impression here.

THE DANGER - #3 - Inhibitions 
Key danger here for Godolphin in Inhibitions who has placed two of three at this trip and comes here off a hard earned win where she put together a few sharp placings prior to stepping out two weeks ago at Caulfield and improving from very deep in the run throughout to chase hard and do her best work late when winning very well and being strong through the line. Gets set up well again, is in form and flying and there’s no real knock on her at all.

VALUE BET  - #13 - Unique Ambition (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Happy to entertain Unique Ambition at even longer odds in this field. She looks to have come back in good steed for John Sargent after a strong maiden win at Newcastle and was subsequently thrown in the deep end in the PJ Bell where, despite not being a winning chance, she was making great late ground and was very strong through the line behind Facile. I think third up now, hard fit, she’s overs for sure.

BEST BET - #7 - Manaal (BEST BET) 
Manaal looks one of the better bets on the program I think coming here for a flying Mick Freedman with this girl doing some of their best work this season. She was brilliant in the Slipper when finishing the best in the race to my eye and then stepped out in the Sires where she loved getting out to the 1400m and won very nicely there. I think that based on the way she has run on in both of the runs this prep that 1600m should be very hard to beat her here.

THE DANGER - #2 - Linebacker
Linebacker has been aimed towards this race since debuting in mid February and comes here three weeks since winning very well in the Baillieu when remaining undefeated at start number two. He ran a very good time there and still has plenty of upside to come third up here. I think he’ll enjoy getting out to this trip and will be one of the hardest to beat.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Anode
Can’t count out the horse that Gai / Bott set for this race. He did very good in the Baillieu when holding Linebacker all the way before going onto the Sires where he didn’t enjoy the track conditions and I think just wasn’t suited on the quick back up. The Linebacker form is very good for this and I think given a bit more of a break now he will be sharp here.

BEST BET - #9 - Espiona (NEXT BEST) 
It’s a cracking edition of this race and there are plenty of chances (as seen by their being five joint favourites) but I think that there really isn’t a reason to steer away from Waller’s top class Espiona who has to be given serious respect coming through the TJ Smith where she wasn’t much of a winning chance from the wide barrier and a bad steer but still powered home very well. She’s run very well at this track and trip combo before and will appreciate getting back to it now.

THE DANGER - #12 - Southport Tycoon
Southport Tycoon has been outstanding this time in for Ciaron Maher and has clearly been saved for this race since winning the Australia Guineas. He looked to be onto the Doncaster after then but it was decided on this race after the track was Heavy for that race. He’s had an outstanding Warwick Farm trial to tick him over into this and will be raring to go now.

VALUE BET - #8 - Chain Of Lightning 
I feel like it’s quite hard to justify knocking Chain Of Lightning here for Peter Moody and Kathy Coleman after the way that she has gone in her past two. She smashed them in Mares grade two runs back in the TAB Birthday Card Stakes and then stepped out against the boys and surprised them in the TJ Smith running the race of his life. He’s flying and is hard to jump off here if there’s steam in the tank.

Making a multi at Randwick is going to be pretty tricky on such a serious race day but I think that if we focus on those that are well weighted, those that are locally trained and those that are hard fit, primed for these races then we have a good chance of taking out this multi.
