Saturday Racing Tips - Randwick Racecourse 21/01/23

The Metro grade racing returns to Randwick for the first Randwick meeting of the year and with a serious ten race card from the sprint distance races to the lone 2000m staying race, it should make for an exciting race day. The track is forecasted to be a soft 6 and with the light rain in Sydney today I think it should remain in that range or even be upgraded if we get some sun. There is a total of $1.5 million prize on offer and I am excited for Saturday’s racing at Randwick.

BEST BET - #3 - Dr Evil (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - (BEST BET)
I think that third up from a spell and on the soft going over the 1600m is perfect for Dr Evil. He ran over the 1400m here 2 weeks back and was unlucky to just miss the placings, fighting hard and showing a great kick after sitting back in the field and giving them a head start. He looks like he will relish similar running conditions but with an extra 200m and should be at peak now, Jmac jumps on and I think at the big price he takes this out.

THE DANGER - #9 - Crafty Eagle 
Crafty Eagle is the clear talent in this race, the John Thompson three year old can definitely measure up here. He didn’t beat anything particularly talented last time but he wasn’t suited by the going or track there and still showed how sharp he was to take that out. He steps up in grade here and I am happy to be against him from the point of view that he is largely unproven even if he does look legit.

VALUE BET  - #5 - Chateaux Park
Jason Coyle and Kerrin Mcevoy combine under Chateaux Park again. Last time out he gave the too much of a head start where he was never a threat but he did show something when finishing off behind the tested Bazooka who is in serious form. I think he can take this out at the big price.

BEST BET - #2 - Logan Street Lion - (NEXT BEST)
Logan Street Lion looks to have hit peak now after a seriously well run win at Rosehill and in great time, taking out some smart types. He chased hard there to find the front and looked to be dying out a bit late but still had enough to keep them at bay. I think that with the super soft draw from the inside he should sit comfy and with even luck he will have enough in hand to run them over late.

THE DANGER - #7 - Mahagoni 
I think Mahagoni should go okay at the 2000m. David Payne should have this Gelding ready after the 1800m outing at Rosehill and Gibbons rode her well there. She couldn’t quite get one over Logan Street Lion after pouncing to second and running hard. Not too sure how he handles the going but if he does he will be in the finish.

VALUE BET  - #5 - Almania 
Almania resumed from a long spell just under a month ago over the 1600m and he looked to have a serious engine under the hood and came in behind the smart informer Jojo Was A man. I think that natural improvement and a bit of luck could see him embarrass this field

BEST BET - #3 - Nicolini Vito (NEXT BEST)
Niccolini Vito needs to be forgiven for the last run when wasn’t bad at all in defeat, he chased solidly all run out wide and just tired late. Before then, he was an impressive winner who sat deep and emerged in the last 200m to run them ragged. He has a great racing pattern, looks to be in peak shape and have something over this field, if he gets clear running he wins this.

THE DANGER - #6 - Vreneli 
Vreneli has earned a shot at this competition being as in form as he is. He picked up an outstanding win two weeks back at Rosehill, leading all the way and teaching them a lesson. Regan Bayliss has ridden him well from the outset and he was there to be nabbed last time but then gave a strong kick. That time was amazing relative to the day’s times and he should prove hard to beat.  

VALUE BET - #5 - Snippy Fox 
This could be make or break for Snippy Fox. He was pretty plain behind the smart I Am Me before going to Rosehill and then he really looked to show something last time out at Rosehill, when she found the line late but her stablemate Titanium Power kept her at bay. She likes the going and should be fit third up, with some improvement I think she runs a great race.
