Saturday Racing Tips - Randwick Racecourse 21/10/23

It’s Five Diamonds Prelude day at Randwick and we return for a bumper ten race card at Randwick this Saturday with a belter card set to run and the Five Diamonds Prelude is the feature of the day here, a WFA race over the 1500m for a share of $1m and qualifying rights for the Five Diamonds. I am more than excited for this card and have run through all the races and picked out my best bet, next best bet and best outside chance of the day so follow me below for another huge day of racing at Randwick!

BEST BET - #8 - The Three Hundred (BEST BET) 
I was keen to get on The Three Hundred whilst she was still at evens as I think she is a great bet to kick the card off here for the flying Waterhouse / Bott stable. Her two trials have seen her go like an absolute jet at Warwick Farm to ready for start one and the way that the stable goes with their juveniles I don’t think she is any exception here. 

THE DANGER - #2 - Agenda Setter
Another debutant here in the Team Hawkes trained Agenda Setter who is a very well bred horse and he has also been going like an absolute bomb in the trials. I think he comes into this with a lot of intent to make it a winning start off the back of each of the two beautiful trials and from the draw he should land near the speed and will make this a race with The Three Hundred.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Blue Illusion
I am happy to give James Cummings’ Blue Illusion another chance here off what I think was a too bad to be true debut. He debuted two weeks back in the Maribyrnong trial stakes at Flemington when definitely having some issues and being outkicked at the 400m and then weakened out of the race. Happy to give him another chance here.

BEST BET - #7 - Smashing Eagle (NEXT BEST) 
I like the chances of the Ryan and Alexiou trained Smashing Eagle first up here. He hasn’t been seen at the races since early September at Rosehill where he was against the shape of the race and still powered home well to finish midfield behind Red Card. He will likely be letting them get in front again but should be able to find plenty to come on strongly late.

THE DANGER - #1 - Dashing Legend
Dashing Legend should come back to racing well here now that she finds herself with Joe Pride. Joe has been making a statement with improving tried horses and it seems the Dashing Legend is no exception as she has been trialling super for her return. She is above this field when she puts things together so watch what the market does with her and how she looks in the yard but I expect a decent showing.

VALUE BET  - #10 - Mars Mission
Another smart horse in Mars Mission who has plenty of talent and that should carry him well here. He returned to racing over the 1100m at Rosehill a few weeks ago where he struggled to get into the race, having drawn the widest barrier there but he still did find the line well behind Tristate. I think he will improve sharply second up, as his record suggests and can go one better now with the right sort of run.

BEST BET - #5 - Cotehele 
Cotehele seems to have come back flying for the O’Shea camp. He resumed two weeks ago in the Alan Brown and if he would have got any room to move in the straight there I think he would have smashed them but instead was held up for long enough to make his run just able to get into second next to Cepheus. He should have plenty to offer here and even if he just runs up to last start he should be able to take this out.

THE DANGER - #2 - Democracy Manifest 
Big Fan of Democracy Manifest for Chris Waller who comes into this race hard fit and ready to fire. He took out the Cameron Handicap two runs back over this distance at Newcastle when not beating the craziest of fields but the way in which he did it was great before putting in another very solid shift in the Epsom to finish just behind the placegetters when not being afforded the most economical of runs. He should get every chance now in a smaller field with Schiller aboard.

VALUE BET - #8 - Fawkner Park (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
If you have been following my racing tips for some time you would know I am a big fan of Fawkner Park for Annabel Neasham and it is good to see him come back to racing now. He hasn’t been away from racing for too long but now comes into this off the back of a very good trial win recently. The way he goes he should be deep in the field until the straight but will be thundering home then undoubtedly.

Making a multi at Randwick is going to be pretty tricky on such a serious race day but I think that if we focus on those that are well weighted, those that are locally trained and those that are hard fit, primed for these races then we have a good chance of taking out this multi.
