Saturday Racing Tips - Randwick Racecourse 25/02/23

Racing continues at Royal Randwick and we are well and truly underway into what is going to be an awesome Autumn racing Carnival in NSW. The Inglis Millenium day two weeks back was an exceptional kick off to the season and we can expect to go on with it now. There’s ten races on the card that contains two group 1’s, three group twos and two group threes amongst other racing. There’s a total of $2.7 million prize available across all races, the rail is out +3m and the track is expected to be a soft 6.

BEST BET - #10 - Tavs (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
On numbers alone I don’t see why Tavs is being overlooked by the market in this field. He’s been presented just once at the races when on debut at Canberra at the beginning of this month but gee he looks to be a talented horse off that, clocking in a 33.48 last 600m where he powered home from far back to score with something in hand. He gets in even lighter now and I think there is no reason he can’t win again with natural improvement from that

THE DANGER - #8 - Shinzo 
Shinzo has had just the one run at the races so far for Chris Waller and that was in the Canonbury at the end of last month when she ended up third in a small field of five. The likes of Red resistance, who is easily the best prospect two-year-old in the country right now, won on that day but Shinzo’s splits were really good and they see him rate at the top of this field. Jmac is on and they draw to settle close in the run. Top chance to take this out.

VALUE BET  - #9 - Diabelli
Diabelli is a Cummings trained two-year-old who gets Hugh Bowman on for this assignment. His last run before a spell was at Rosehill when he placed third to Disneck but showed a really solid engine there to motor into that spot from the easiest of runs. He’s had just the one soft trial where he moved nicely to lead him into this and Cummings is just flying with the juveniles. I think he will be ready for this.

BEST BET - #4 - Mirra Vision (NEXT BEST)
Mirra Vision goes on top for me in this field. The Snowden mare hasn’t raced since November 26th when she was second in the Festival Stakes before going onto the Empire Rose where she finished second again to the always in form Icebath. That form reads well for this and she’s had just the one sharp strong trial. The stable putting her forward at 1400m fresh makes me think they are keen to pick up this win and I am happy to side with her.

THE DANGER - #3 - Hope In Your Heart
Hope In Your Hear resumes for Kerry Parker on Saturday and she is a really progressive mare that had a cracker Spring where she won multiple stakes races, then went on to run fourth in a blistering Golden Eagle before ending her prep with a second placing in The Gong. Her trials look good and whilst I am sure the stable is prepping her for bigger races, there is non reason why she can’t pick up this win along the way.

VALUE BET  - #7 - Norwegian Bliss
Norwegian Bliss was a horse that it was great to follow during Spring as she took out races at Randwick and Caulfield in Saturday grade. She has resumed at Randwick a couple of weeks ago where she faded to finish eighth but looked like she needed the run as her racing pattern suggests and she has won four of five second up. She will be ready for this and should not be treated lightly.

BEST BET - #1 - In Secret (BEST BET)
It’s not easy to go past the Cummings trained big dog in the yard that is In Secret. She resumed in the Light Fingers a fortnight back and Nash rode her with seemingly no worries, only pressing the button very late and In secret still easily drove through runners to win well there. She is fitter now, goes out to 1400m, has the runs on board and just has class on these overall. Top pick.

THE DANGER - #3 - Zougotcha 
All you can do is win and that is what Zougotcha has done in her last three runs, with the two most recent ones being at Randwick. The former of those wins was over this distance on similar going in the Tea Rose Stakes back in September before winning on a bog track here at the beginning of October last year. She clearly likes the sting out the ground, is a track specialist and Jmac/Waller is an ever familiar winning combo. She will be one of the toughest to beat.

VALUE BET - #8 - Sunshine In Paris
Sunshine In Paris resumed to the races in the Light Fingers next to In secret and she just keeps continuing to climb the ladder when second to the aforementioned In Secret in a very impressive run. Before then she had a quick 8 week spell from the races but was a winner here over the 1200m prior to that spell. She is best in running when ridden cold and if they ride her with a sit she will be storming home late.

I have opted to make a place multi with my top selections of the meeting as a lot of them are at bigger odds in some competitive races. I have prioritised both the jockeys that get the booking and those that are suited by the run/mapping of the race as lots of these races will have a few chances and any favours a horse gets will be the distinguishing factor.

It’s a bit trickier to make a multi on this race day as there are some large and super competitive fields in these races and as such I have tried to really focus on which runners are most likely to place in these bigger, more competitive fields. I have focused as such on who is Jockeying the rides and where they draw as I think these can make significant differences when not much else is drastically different between a set of horses.
