Saturday Racing Tips - Randwick Racecourse 27/01/24

Racing returns to Randwick racecourse this Saturday for a belter ten race card as we look towards our Autumn racing carnival and things seem to be really heating up with one listed race on the card, the TAB Carrington Stakes in race seven, a 1400m race for a share of $200k. I have run through the card and picked out my best betting spots so follow me below!

BEST BET - #6 - Switzerland (BEST BET)
Pretty happy to be in the corner for Chris Waller’s debutant in Switzerland who was set to debut last week but has been kept for this. I had my eye on him after his recent Rosehill trial where he closed off very well and the stable have been keeping things very under wraps with their juveniles so I think this is the guy that kicks them off in a big way.

THE DANGER - #5 - Russian Roulette
Always hard to steer away from a Waterhouse / Bott trained juvenile and this guy comes here for his debut for the camp after two sharp trials where he has absolutely bolted to the line to win both. His most recent was in the mud at Warwick Farm where he showed he handles all conditions and I think with the way the stable goes with their juveniles it’s hard to see him running poorly.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Scampi
Scampi might be a milk drinker but he’s lightly raced enough to give him a look here and is also one of the only runners here with racing experience. He had two runs back in Spring last year with one of them being a very solid run behind Shangri La Express in the Golden Gift. He’s had some sharp trials to bring him back to racing and I think he only runs well here.

BEST BET - #3 - Hellsing (NEXT BEST)
I think Hellsing has to rate highly here for Annabel Neasham after resuming three weeks ago at this track where he was absolutely shot after doing heaps of work early in a race where the tempo was very hot. He now shapes up for this fitter and going out in trip, he will be strong here undoubtedly.

THE DANGER - #1 - Glory Daze
Glory Daze has to be given some level of respect here as favourite after last stepping out just over a month ago on this track and trip where he sat on speed throughout the run and gave a strong kick but just found a couple late, albeit very smart horses. He’s got plenty of upside off of that and the form around him is very strong, go well.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Redstone Well
Redstone Well seems like he is finding his feet in Australia for Annabel Neasham and is one to look out for. He debuted down under over the 1400m when getting buried deep in the run but was very very strong to the line late when running home behind Excelladus. Not sure if he needs more racing but he’s certainly got talent off the back of that debut.

BEST BET - #12 - Felix Majestic 
Tough race with a few key chances but I think I am sticking in the corner of Felix Majestic for the Nickson camp here and this guy has been up for some time but does his best work with racing and I think he will be sharp coming here. He last ran over this track and trip at the beginning of the month where he was a narrow leader into the straight and was just outkicked late by a smart horse but now hard fit and having been wound up for an assignment like this I have a sneaky feeling he might just take it out.

THE DANGER - #8 - Zou Tiger
John O’Shea has an awfully good record in races like these and rarely places his runners without thorough consideration. He looked in need of the run when stepping out first up in the Canterbury Classic before stepping out at Rosehill where he couldn’t get the lead, was posted wide and whilst he kicked hard in the straight the early work told and he just couldn’t see it out. He’s hard fit now, should have something to chase out front and will be sharp here no doubt.

VALUE BET - #7 - Rubamos (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Chris Waller’s Rubamos has rarely put a foot wrong when racing and looks to have come back in great order for the stable. He last stepped out at Rosehill two weeks ago when coming off a break and launching hard at the field late in the straight to win verywell. He still has plenty of upside and out to this trip is very positive, don’t disrespect.
