Saturday Racing Tips - Randwick Racecourse 27/05/23

Metro Grade racing kicks on at Randwick with another big day of competitive fields across a ten race card. Almost all of the races will be contended for a share of $150k prize money and the feature of the day is the WFA open sprint, the Sccf J Tedesco Outreach Prog. over 1100m in race eight. The track is rated a soft 6, the rail is in true position and the weather should be fine. Follow me below as I outline my best betting spots on the Randwick race card!

BEST BET - #8 - Demitasse
I wouldn’t normally be tipping in the Highway but I do think there is a fair bit of value in this race and some standout chances. I do think the best chance is the favourite, Demitasse who has come back well to the races, resuming in a Gosford Highway just shy of a month ago and was pushed back in the run a bunch but still found the line very nicely, able to place second to Remlaps Commander. He’s got upside off the back of that and I am keen to see how he runs.

THE DANGER - #5 - Sungblue
Sungblue looks to be finding a but of form off the back of a Highway run at Scone two weeks ago when sitting on the pace and fighting hard to just go down in a head bobber to the smart / in-form Steplee. He drops back now to the 1400m which is where he does his best work and has a good racing style which should carry him in good steed for a highway. Top chance.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Bootscooter (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Another I am very keen on is the Rodney Northam trained Bootscooter who has been up around the mark for awhile now but has been holding form well, with three wins in eleven runs this campaign and gets Reece Jones on for the ride now, draws well and is coming off the back of a very honest effort at Scone when he missed the start and had to recover two lengths, just continuing to come on strongly all run. He should be right for this off the back of that.

BEST BET - #2 - Plundering (NEXT BEST) 
Keen on plundering for Annabel Neasham in this race who rates very well in this field. He just missed the win fresh over the 1000m here at this track when second to Miss Jay Fox from well out wide on the track and then stayed at the track but went out to the 1300m where he sat on the speed and looked to be fading but he found another gear and kicked away to win. Back to 1200m should be good now for him with the run style he’s exhibited and I think he still has more upside off the back of these past two runs. Very keen.

THE DANGER - #10 - Union Army 
I think Union Army can hit back hard here for the Ryan and Alexiou stable with Reece Jones taking the mount. He’s had just the three starts this campaign but scored and scored well at Newcastle two back over this distance when sitting at the back of the field and shifting out the widest to run over the top of them inside the last 200m. I think he had some excuses last time out at Scone so can try to forgive that and if he comes into this having made a few improvements I think he will run a great race.

VALUE BET  - #13 - Burnett
Very interesting runner in Burnett for Anthony Cummings who is seemingly doing what he sometimes does by throwing a runner into the deep end. She debuted at Kembla over this distance on similar ground where she set back in the run before shifting out wide on the turn and powering home for a dominant win inside the last 200m. That’s her lone run to carry her into this but you would think she has huge upside off the back of that and comes into this now with only 52kg on her, she won’t know herself with that little weight on. Has to be over the odds here.

BEST BET - #14 - Iowna Merc (BEST BET)
I could be reading it wrong here but I am tempted to say that Iowna Merc might just be too good for these. The three year old Bjorn Baker runner is resuming not having raced since December 24th at this track where she was at the end of her prep and finished a few lengths behind Kalino. He has been looking brilliant at the trials and 1100m fresh is good, stable is always prominent and he draws well inside, as long as the track isn’t thrashed by then I can see him having too much class for these.

THE DANGER - #16 - Kin
I wasn’t sure about the James Cummings trained Kin last season but he does seem to be going very well this campaign. He resumed just under a month ago at Gosford over the 1000m and tried her guts off from off the speed but just couldn’t get one over Vowmaster, who is a very good thing himself. Just her second run now this campaign and coming from the stable she is you would imagine she will run a much improved race. Top chance.

VALUE BET - #5 - Billiondollarbaby
I am a big fan of the Snowden trained Billiondollarbaby who resumed from a short seven week let up two weeks ago at Scone when getting no favours, being crowded and trapped three wide and off the speed but just overcame the suck run to battle through traffic on the straight and end up second to a very good winner. Has won two runs back at Warwick over the 1200m so think 1100m is fine and Prebble should give him every chance here.
