Saturday Racing Tips - Randwick Racecourse 28/10/23

It’s Spring Champion Stakes day at Randwick and we return for a bumper ten race card at Randwick this Saturday with a belter card set to run and the Spring Champion Stakes as the feature of the day here, a WFA race over the 2000m for a share of $2m. I am more than excited for this card and have run through all the races and picked out my best bet, next best bet and best outside chance of the day so follow me below for another huge day of racing at Randwick!

#1 - Huetor - $5.50
#10 - Renaissance Woman - $5.00
#5 - Zeyrek (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $7.00
#2 - Numerian - $4.20

BEST BET - #1 - Huetor
Huetor has lengths on these in terms of class and he should be making big improvements into this race second up. He came back to racing in the King Charles where the market said he would need the run and he did when finishing last there. Stewards noted then that he is capable of sharp improvement second up and I think that he may want another run which is why we get the good price on him but he likely will have plenty for them here.

THE DANGER - #10 - Renaissance Woman
Renaissance Woman has a very good third up record and does look to be flying for Bjorn Baker and gets another honest chance to win here. He last stepped out in the Angst Stakes at this track over the mile where he clocked a very impressive win when going through the line powerfully. He now comes into this third up, hard fit and weighted to win again. Top chance.

VALUE BET  - #5 - Zeyrek
Zeyrek should relish getting out to this distance and is a smart animal for the Hawkes stable who hasn’t met initial expectations of him when he looked to be on his way to the Cox Plate but after bombing out in the King Charles the stable has revised targets for him and now comes into this with intent. Before bombing out in the King Charles he ran a very good race in the Hill Stakes and is going well enough to be a winning threat here.

BEST BET - #2 - Tom Kitten (BEST BET) 
I do think that it is Tom Kitten’s time for Godolphin and we briefly covered his prospects earlier this week in my News article but I think getting out to the 2000m is very positive. He was too far back in the Gloaming when he last stepped out but was absolutely flying down the outside to nearly win the race when falling into second place there. He’s been waiting to get out to this trip and with Hyeronimous on he will be able to settle close enough to belt them late.

THE DANGER - #12 - Tutta La Vita 
Tutta La Vita is a class animal for Chris Waller who is hard fit now and ready for this trip. He comes out of the Flight Stakes at this track where he produced a very solid effort over the Mile where he was too far back to be a winning threat but wow the way he found the line late to power home into third was an incredible effort. He’s had a very good trial win to lead him into this now and with no weight on his back and Collett on he will be dangerous.

VALUE BET  - #7 - Ravello
One I am happy to entertain at bigger odds is Ravello who really should have gone a lot closer than he did last time out in the Ravello. He had to try very hard to get any room to move there and when he finally did, Ravello seemed to have lost the will by then before picking up again very late to be strong through the line. I think going out in trip is positive and will give him more of a chance to make a move and as such I think he goes well now at big odds.

BEST BET - #2 - Espiona (NEXT BEST) 
It’s hard to get away from Espiona who is the only runner that comes into this year’s edition of The Invitation with the Everest form and I think that she ran very well there when beaten 2.8L to Think About It. She drops back to Mare’s grade here, hard fit and I don’t think she needs to improve into this to take it out.

THE DANGER - #7 - Magic Time
I understand why the market is specking Begg’s Magic Time. He should be very strong here third up and is, in my opinion, one of only two real threats to Espiona. He comes out of The Nivision at Rosehill a few weeks back where he trucked along on the speed before finding a split at the 150m and powering away to win with something in hand there. He’s run very well at this track and trip in the past and is putting together quite the record, dangerous.

VALUE BET - #6 - Roots
Roots should be improving sharply into this race with how her second up record reads. She resumed three weeks ago in the Alan Brown and seems to have come back very well based on that run where she seemingly came out of nowhere to power home just behind the placings in a bunched finish that saw her end up just over a length behind winner Cepheus. She gets out onto the bigger track now, might want one more but I think will have plenty to offer here off the back of that run.
