Saturday Racing Tips - Rosehill Racecourse 03/06/23

It’s Bowermans Winter Cup day at Rosehill and wow it looks like we are set for a great edition of the Cup with ten races on the card, a handful of staying races and a bunch of sprints that will be highlighted by the Group One Bowermans Winter Cup, a 2400m Group 1 staying race in race 6. I think it’s going to be a very competitive day and as such have chosen my betting spots carefully, follow me below as I outline my best spots on the card!

BEST BET - #7 - Stand Aside (NEXT BEST)

I'm betting in the opener as I think it is a race in two and I am keen to be with one of them in particular in Stand Aside who is racing for the almost omnipresent (at the moment) Gai Bott stable. He made his debut in the midweeks at Warwick Farm and just didn’t really enjoy the tight track  but stuck to his task well there and kept coming. He maps very well from the low draw now, will be fitter and smarter second up and goes onto the bigger track now. I think he will be prominent all run and be hard to run down.

THE DANGER - #1 - Congregation
Congregation looks like the other key chance in this field. A good colt for Waller that debuted at Canterbury a couple weeks ago and set back in the run before motoring away in the straight and landed up getting the money there for a gutsy win. She should have massive upside still off the back of that run and will look good against these.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Heman

The other one that is sneaky flying in this race is Heman for the Snowden’s who took a long time at the trials to come up to the races and then eventually came off the trials at the beginning of last month over the 1200m and trailed behind the speed, working into the race from wide and charging home to get the money in the final stride. Should improve off of that and an additional 100m in distance won’t cause her any trouble.

BEST BET - #9- Sweet Mercy (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 

The David Payne trained Sweet Mercy goes on top narrowly and comes into this four runs into her prep but has really come too in her last couple runs. The most recent of which was at this track two weeks ago and at this distance where he absolutely relished getting onto the big track and stepping out in trip, coming from just behind the speed and having a great kick to put the field away and score smartly there. I think he only has to hold form to make this tough for the rest of the field here.

THE DANGER - #1 - Kyeema - $4.80

Kyeema should be at peak here third up for Sara Ryan. He did well fresh in a Midway at this track just over a month ago in the mud but didn’t relish the heavy ground, his class just saw him go well regardless. He then raced here in another Midway two weeks ago and was very good when third to Sweet Mercy, just not finishing off that strongly in the last 100m. He’s hard fit now, will slide to the front from the wide gate and gets back on top of the ground. Top chance. 

VALUE BET  - #2 - Awesome Lad
Awesome lad looks very positive going into this second up and I think if he’s fit enough he will be very strong at the end of this 1400m. He resumed over the 1300m a couple weeks ago, sitting just off the speed and not having an awful lot when asked for it, but that is generally the way things go with him first up. He has great upside off that and maps for a great run, just might be wanting to go out again in distance. We will see based on how he looks in the yard tomorrow.

BEST BET - #9 - Al Aabir (BEST BET)

Al Aabir has been around the mark for a bit for Chris Waller but he is going very very well in my opinion and only needs to hold form to be prominent here. He ran a very close second placing two runs back at the Sunshine Coast before coming to this track a fortnight ago and just couldn’t get clear air until it was to late, but he did give a big sight once he got clear air to just miss again. Not an overly strong race compared to what he has been contending, I like his chances.

THE DANGER - #5 - Herman Hesse
Herman Hesse is dropping a fair bit back in depth off the back of the Andrew Ramsden which was a crazily hot run race and he just couldn’t cop the front running style, finishing down the track behind Lunar Flare. He does his best work here and should still have plenty to offer here. I think he will look very flash late and can make this interesting.

VALUE BET - #2 - Spirit Ridge

Spirit Ridge is one of the runners with a fair bit of upside than most and will relish getting out to the 2400m. He ran first up in the Lord Mayors Cup two weeks ago and I thought he did a decent job from near the speed when beaten just over two lengths. He is a truely bred stayer and is proven at this distance. I think he will settle forward in the run, as good a chance as any

Jmac hasn’t been firing the same way of late but that’s simply because the bar he sets for himself is astronomically high. He thrives under the pressure of the Group racing and subsequently has a stack of rides booked for Saturday’s racing at Rosehill, look for him to be picking up a few winners throughout the card.

I think that we have to tread lightly with a multi on such a competitive day of racing with so many of these horses having been geared for the races on this card. As such, I have given favour to those horses who have drawn good gates, are well weighted and who have top jockeys on as these factors can be all the advantage you need for a win in the circumstances.
