Saturday Racing Tips - Rosehill Racecourse 11/11/23

Racing returns to Rosehill this weekend for a massive card as the Five Diamonds highlights the day and the weekend of racing, a WFA race for a share of $10 million over the 1500m. It is supported by the 1300m Giga Kick Stakes for a share of $3 million and the Rosehill Gold Cup, a 2000m staying race for a share of $750k prize money. I have outlined my best bets for all of these races and am keen to get stuck in so follow me below!

BEST BET - #4 - Call Di (NEXT BEST)
I think that Call Di is knocking on the door for the Ryan and Alexiou stable and comes out of the Trsitarc Stakes at Caulfield where she ran very well before being held up badly from the 500m to 200m and when she finally got clear air she was flying home to finish very close in a bunched go where she likely would have won otherwise. Beatable field here, Nash on, only runs well for me.

THE DANGER - #1 - Royal Merchant
Royal Merchant is a tough mare for Maher and Eustace who comes out of The Invitation where she was on the speed and looked to click up and get going but landed up just battling in the straight when running behind Espiona. She isn’t flying the same way she was in her last campaign but this will be the softest competition she’s met in awhile.

VALUE BET  - #5 - Dalchini
Dalchini is running a lot better than it reads on paper and I think is a sneaky but winning chance in this. She was against the shape of the race in The Invitation when still thundering home to really finish off the race well and I think off the back of that, if she can find a better spot in the run she will be prominent late.

BEST BET - #1 - Shangri La Express (BEST BET)
Shangri La Express looks like a smart favourite and I am keen to be in his corner for the Waterhouse / Bott stable. He debuted three weeks back at Randwick where he was backed well by the market and duly came out and lead throughout the run and kicked away dominantly. I doubt the stable has placed him poorly here given the way they are going.

THE DANGER - #4 - Scampi
Scampi should be running on a lot better than he last was when on debut in the Breeders’ Plate at Randwick a few weeks back. He led along the fence there before racing greenly in the straight and just dropping out late when he didn’t totally look up to it that start but did show some talent in the early parts. His been worked along well again to come back to racing and looked a lot sharper in a recent trial. The wide draw is a concern but he has Gibbons on.

VALUE BET  - #11 - Miss Judas
Miss Judas has to be given a bit of respect here for the Freedmans. She debuted behind Shangri La Express at Randwick where she found a spot off the speed to wind up and make up heaps of ground even if not a winning chance behind the Gai/Bott horse that day. She will have improvement to come off that and I think runs well here.

BEST BET - #3 - Antino
Antino surely wins this, his class has lengths on these. He nearly took out the Toorak Stakes two runs back where he just missed in a bob of the heads before racing in the Crystal Mile last start where he got the worst run and Prowess had all the favours but he really should have won there when still nearly overcoming that run and placing a close second to Prowess. Out to 1800m looks suitable and I think he only runs well here.

THE DANGER - #12 - Unspoken
Unspoken is a ripper horse who comes out of a dominant win when leading all the way at Randwick and was ridden with arrogance and fair enough given the way he belted them there. He has an honest contest now but I think he’s up to the task.

VALUE BET - #11 - Detonator Jack (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Detonator Jack has been working towards a win and I think gets his chance here. He was absolutely flying in the Prelude to this race, running along the inside and then clicking up powerfully at the 150m to only just miss to Palmetto. He was very sharp as well first up in The Sofitel but I think now with racing and fitness on his side he surely goes well here.

Avdulla has found great form this year with a near 50% place rate and near 20% strike rate. He has been super consistent in NSW and that has been recognised to a large extent by the bookings that he has been getting. He gets a top selection of rides for some prominent stables such as James Cummings and Chris Waller and I think he is a top shot to pick up at least one win on Saturday at Rosehill.

Whilst it is scary to tip in some of the bigger field races I think that with it being early in the season and a lot of runners being on resumption that there are some clear top picks in each field and as such I have combined my best runners of the day into a place multi. Whilst it might not be the same level of value we generally get I think that it is a worthwhile bet and has a good chance of coming in
