Saturday Racing Tips - Rosehill Racecourse 12/08/23

Saturday racing has arrived at Rosehill and we have a massive ten race card with the majority of the contests being contested in high Benchmark grade where a bunch of the most exciting horses in the country make their returns to racing in anticipation of the Spring racing season to come as well as the feature race of the day, the Listed Chandon Rosebud Stakes which is a 1100m sprint that should prove to be ultra competitive. I am keen to get stuck into things so follow me below as I run through the day!

BEST BET - #1 - The Little Pumper (BEST BET)
Keen on The Little Pumper in the opener here and he should look very strong in this field for the Gai / Bott giants who keep winning races like these this season. He’s put two from two together this campaign and comes into this off the back of a win four weeks ago at Randwick where he was a ways out front and looked to be challenged in the straight but found plenty to win well in good time. He’ll still have plenty to offer here, has had a nice trial in between and will no doubt be prominent throughout the run.

THE DANGER - #2 - Caballus
Market is liking the chances of Caballus for Chris Waller here and I understand it given the way he won at Randwick two weeks ago when he let the field get way out in front before the expert Jmac got him working on the corner and he powered through the field to clock a big win. He appears to be improving sharply with each run so I am keen to see how he shows up for this assignment. 

VALUE BET  - #4 - Ganbare 
Another one who it would be no shock to see win at a price is Ganbare for the Waterhouse / Bott giants and he’s only had the four career starts for the stable, winning on debut in quite nice fashion before racing in some tough contests and I think that given he won first up and the way the stable’s going with two nice trials in hand and Tim Clark booked for the ride it would come as little surprise if he took out the opener. Top chance.

BEST BET - #2 - Extremely Lucky (NEXT BEST) 
Extremely Lucky is an extremely annoying horse to understand but if he brings his best he takes this out easily. He is a former O’Shea and Clarken trained horse who was putting in massive efforts this time last year and all signs were pointing towards the Everest but after taking out the Lightning in good fashion it all fell apart. He’s with Waller now and has been trialling very well for his return. Rosehill, Waller, a bunch of experience on the track, looks a good set up if he shows up but $2.30 is pretty short.

THE DANGER - #6 - Devil’s Throat
We’ve had Devil’s Throat a few times in our free horse racing tips and I am not going to lie at this point he is becoming costly as to follow but I do think he deserves another chance after never being a winning chance in the Ramornie last time out where he was posted wide in the run where the race turned into a tactical battle sit and sprint and he faded late. He’s had a nice tick over trial win in between runs and now draws a decent gate and comes back to the track that he loves the most from Grafton.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Vreneli 

Another Waterhouse / Bott product that has been put forward for this race is Vreneli who could return to racing in a big way with two wins from three runs at this track and a fresh win and placing from four runs. He is a track speciliast here that gets the booking of Hyeronimous and comes off a 21 week spell when being eased out of the National Sprint at Canberra earlier this year and he has been absolutely flying in his two lead up trials. A win wouldn’t totally shock.

BEST BET - #1 - The Instructor
The Instructor looks like a progressive horse for the Waterhouse / Bott stable and I think he will get his chance here. He debuted at Pakenham where he was a moral and saluted as such before going to the Blue Diamond Preview where he again had far too much to offer and saluted dominantly. He stepped out to the G1 Blue DIamond over the 1200m after that and looked good before peaking just a bit too early in the run and being eased out of it late in a tough run 1200m. He’s been going like an absolute jet in the lead up trials for this and I think he only runs well.

THE DANGER - #5 - Cigar Flick
Cigar Flick has the class edge on a lot of these and I think that alone should carry her very well for this assignment as well as having already resumed where we see some others resume in this race. The return run was at Randwick about three weeks ago where Collett gave her a very good steer for her to weave a path and win narrowly but impressively. She will improve sharply off the back of that run and looks good to go staying at this distance again.

VALUE BET - #7 - Roussillon (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Roussillon is a very honest horse for James Cummings who resumed off of a 17 week spell at Gosford where he settled far back in the run but his class saw him get home when powering through the field and getting the job done but the stewards report suggested he be rid further forward. Last time out he has to be forgiven when posted wide all run at The Valley on a day with a huge rail / leader bias and he will be ready to peak now with the added fitness from that tough run and the booking of McEvoy is always positive. Top chance at odds.

Avdulla has found great form this year with a near 50% place rate and near 20% strike rate. He has been super consistent in NSW and that has been recognised to a large extent by the bookings that he has been getting. He gets a top selection of rides for some prominent stables such as James Cummings and Chris Waller and I think he is a top shot to pick up at least one win on Saturday at Rosehill.

Whilst it is scary to tip in some of the bigger field races I think that with it being early in the season and a lot of runners being on resumption that there are some clear top picks in each field and as such I have combined my best runners of the day into a place multi. Whilst it might not be the same level of value we generally get I think that it is a worthwhile bet and has a good chance of coming in.
