Saturday Racing Tips - Rosehill Racecourse 13/01/24

Racing returns to Rosehill this Saturday for a bumper ten race card and there are some high level sprints and staying races as we have three listed races on the card with the James Squire January Cup being the feature of the day in race seven, a 2000m open race for a share of $200k prize money. I have picked out my three best betting spots on the card and as such am keen to run through them and give you guys some good bets for tomorrow so follow me below!

BEST BET - #1 - Penthouse
I can’t believe I am kicking the day off with a bet in a Highway but I think that Matty Dale’s resuming Penthouse looks a very solid opening bet to the meeting. She hasn’t been seen since Mid June at Caulfield when finishing just behind Flying On A Limb. Her trial win was very good recently and I think she is the one to beat undoubtedly.

THE DANGER - #2 - Blow Dart
Smart horse for Brett Thompson in Blow Dart who doesn’t win out of turn but he has been set up very well for this assignment. He comes here third up and hard fit off of a 22 week spell and last stepped out at Randwick where he pulled up with mild heat stress which only adds more merit to the way he ran on into fourth there.

VALUE BET  - #5 - Acotango (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
Acotango can step up to this level now for Cody Morgan. He won dominantly last time out at Tamworth when sitting on the speed before drawing clear of the field with seeming ease. He still has plenty of upside to come off that run and finds a winnable Highway.

Gotta give respect to Louisville here for Chris Waller after the way he ran over the Mile at Randwick a fortnight ago when overcoming one of the tougher runs in the race to place second to the very smart Miracle Spin. He now shapes up hard fit, ready to win and with more speed ahead of him he should prove tough to beat here. 

THE DANGER - #3 - Aristonous
Feels like Aristonous hasn’t been himself this prep and I really suspected he had some issues after last racing at Randwick when he did nothing when presented the chance but the vet said all was good. It could have been a case of just one bad run as his recent trial was a nice piece of work and his best he belts these.

VALUE BET  - #12 - Angel Of Light
Feels like Angel Of Light is crying out for a win after stepping out over this trip at Randwick a couple weeks ago when second up and just being a bit flat footed on the turn. However she did pick up towards the end of the race and managed to run on well into third. She rates highly here now with the extra fitness from that run.

BEST BET - #12 - Naval College (NEXT BEST)
Tough edition of this race but I think Annabel Neasham’s Naval College does rate just that bit in front of the field and he comes out of a race over this trip at Randwick where he looked dead in the last couple hundred meters but he just kept finding more to win well there. That was only second up, he’s a class horse and will be more impressive here.

THE DANGER - #1 - Luncies
Luncies is just about at his peak for Kris Lees after. He last stepped out on Boxing Day where he just couldn’t get one over the impressive Lion’s Roar but that effort was very sharp. The time was good and he was also 8 weeks between runs then. He’s got residual fitness now, should be sharper and is a definite winning chance.

VALUE BET - #5 - Baby Rider
Baby Rider pulled out a shock win in the ATC Cup before only just being run down late in the Summer Cup where he did give quite the sight from out front but just couldn’t finish it off late when Lion’s Roar stormed over them. He runs a lot better when not leading so if another horse gets the lead he will be dangerous.

Avdulla has found great form this year with a near 50% place rate and near 20% strike rate. He has been super consistent in NSW and that has been recognised to a large extent by the bookings that he has been getting. He gets a top selection of rides for some prominent stables such as James Cummings and Chris Waller and I think he is a top shot to pick up at least one win on Rosehill at Rosehill.

Whilst it is scary to tip in some of the bigger field races I think that with it being early in the season and a lot of runners being on resumption that there are some clear top picks in each field and as such I have combined my best runners of the day into a place multi. Whilst it might not be the same level of value we generally get I think that it is a worthwhile bet and has a good chance of coming in
