Saturday Racing Tips - Rosehill Racecourse 16/03/24

Racing returns to Rosehill this Saturday for the Coolmore Classic and we have a monstrous seven listed races on the card with a bunch of Group two’s and the feature of the day being the Coolmore Classic, a Group 1 race over the 1500m for a share of $1 million prize money. It’s going to be an awesome day of racing and I have thoroughly run through the card and picked out my best betting spots below!

BEST BET - #3 - Fly Fly (BEST BET)
Fly Fly has to rate as the leading contender for the Hawkes camp in the first Stakes race of the day. This Filly has only had two career starts to kick things off and was very strong on debut behind Switzerland in the Pierro before stepping out in the Sweet Embrace where she was extremely impressive, coming from the tail of the field to chase home hard, finishing second to Manaal. She now comes back to her home course, hard fit third up and should be very strong here.

THE DANGER - #2 - Castanya
Castanya comes here off of a bit of a break for Annabel Neasham since last running in the Lonhro Plate just over a month ago where she let them get a ways in front of her before she let down with real purpose late in the piece and absolutely blitzed them to the post, winning very well. I think she’s looking for this trip and should be strong coming back to racing here.

VALUE BET  - #5 - Chateau Miraval 
Chateau Miraval has to be respected stepping out for the almighty Waterhouse / Bott camp here for just his third career start after an impressive debut at Kensington where he led them out and was far too strong for them in the straight and then last racing at Randwick in a Group two where he led them out again and gave a big kick in the straight but was just overrun by the trifecta late. Hard fit third up, improving with every run and will be strong here no doubt.

BEST BET - #4 - Just Fine (NEXT BEST)
Just Fine has to rate as the leading contender in a competitive race. There are some big guns here but I still think he’s going to be the horse they have to get past. He came back to racing off of a 20 week spell at Randwick a few weeks back where he set a strong pace out front before being weakened out of the race to finish last. I think they treated that race more like a barrier trial to build fitness and he is incredibly strong second up with three wins in four second up runs. I can’t see him going poorly here and think he will be prominent all run.

THE DANGER - #3 - Lindermann
Lindermann is a deserving favourite here for Chris Waller and has had two runs this time in for the camp to build towards what I can only imagine is this assignment. He kicked off the campaign in a Group 2 at Randwick when running home into midfield powerfully before stepping out behind Think It Over last time out when very strong into third place but just lacking the dash of Think It Over and Fangirl. That form is incredibly strong for this assignment and I think he will be a hard horse to catch, just a bit too short for me.

VALUE BET  - #- Athabascan
Athabascan, I feel, as looking towards the Sydney Cup for John O’Shea but can take this out on his way to it as he is a very classy horse. He resumed in the Verry Elleegant Stakes when finding them a bit too sharp but still running home well in not the worst effort for a resuming run. He has been revved up a lot more for this assignment and still might be looking for one more run but I think that it would be foolish to discount him in this field.

BEST BET - #1 - Zougotcha 
Straight bat option is Zougotcha for Chris Waller who has been going very well this time in and looks to have been set for this race. She stepped out a few weeks back in the Millie Fox when resuming from a 22 week break and ridden with vigour by Waller to win very well and beat the likes of Lady Laguna who then went on to win a Group 1 last weekend. She will have a stack of improvement off of that resuming run and will be very strong here no doubt.

THE DANGER - #6 - Tropical Squall 
Tropical Squall is already a two time Group 1 winner in seven career starts for the Waterhouse / Bott camp and one of those came at the beginning of the month when she resumed off a 16 week spell in the Surround Stakes as she led them along the rails before letting down in the straight to hold them off for a gutsy win. She draws the pain barrier here but with a tonne of early speed she might just be able to cross and lead them without exhausting herself too much.

VALUE BET - #11 - Yonce (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
It is ridiculous that Yonce comes in at such a big price and I think I will have to have something on this horse for Ciaron Maher. She took a long time away from racing of 89 weeks before coming back in her last three runs and really got going last time out at Caulfield where she was an all the way winner at Caulfield. She has since jumped out very well, draws soft here and has won at this trip before. We don’t know her ceiling yet and I think this is an incredibly exciting race for her to step out in. Keen.

Avdulla has found great form this year with a near 50% place rate and near 20% strike rate. He has been super consistent in NSW and that has been recognised to a large extent by the bookings that he has been getting. He gets a top selection of rides for some prominent stables such as James Cummings and Chris Waller and I think he is a top shot to pick up at least one win on Rosehill at Rosehill.

Whilst it is scary to tip in some of the bigger field races I think that with it being early in the season and a lot of runners being on resumption that there are some clear top picks in each field and as such I have combined my best runners of the day into a place multi. Whilst it might not be the same level of value we generally get I think that it is a worthwhile bet and has a good chance of coming in
