Saturday Racing Tips - Rosehill Racecourse 17/06/23

It’s Mckell Cup Day at Rosehill and we have a riveting ten race card that is highlighted by the listed WJ Mckell Cup, a 2000m staying race to be run for a share of $160,000 prize money. The card has some very solid looking support races, all contested for upwards of $100k prize money and I think that we are on for one of the more exciting race days of the Winter Carnival. I have run through the card and outlined my best betting spots of the day and picked out a handful of specific races that I like the look of some runners. Follow me below as I outline the exciting day of racing at Rosehill!

Rosehill R1 -The Agency Real Estate Hcp (1400m)

Selections:
#3 - Tutta La Vita (BEST BET)  - $1.90
#1 - Flying Trapeze - $3.80
#4 - Flying Trapeze - $14.00
#2 - Cap Ferrat - $6.50

BEST BET - #3 - Tutta La Vita (BEST BET)
I think that Tutta La Vita is a very good spot in the opener to hopefully build up a bit of a bankroll early in the day. He raced at Rosehill two weeks back when getting absolutely zero favours, being shuffled back and crowded throughout the run and when he finally weaved a passage late he powered home to just miss the win to Congregation. That form reads very well for this and goes out to 1400m now which he should relish and be extremely hard to beat.

THE DANGER - #1 - Flying Trapeze
The Gary Portelli youngling Flying Trapeze does look the main threat in this field. He has been flying this prep in four runs back from a spell. He placed closely on debut before recording another close placing behind Ritzytwenties who has gone on to win again and then saluted third up in good fashion before racing in The Phoenix last time out where he hit the front and looked the winner but was grabbed late by a smart one.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Canadian Ruler
I don’t think Canadian Ruler wins this but all you can go by is his lone career start in which he debuted at Bathurst over the 1200m and whilst he didn’t beat off a very classy field, he made the race his, clocking fast splits before being eased out of it when he was lengths clear near the line to salute dominantly. He looks to have a nice racing style and will be sure to improve second up now.

Rosehill R4 - Racing For Good On 29/7 (Bm72) (1800m)

Selections:
#10 - Tradition (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $9.00
#5 - Grebeni - $2.90
#7 - Fuller - $7.50
#12 - Ring Ahoy - $23.00

BEST BET - #10 - Tradition (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
I think that Tradition can go very well here for James Cummings and I am keen on his prospects here. He raced last time out over the 1800m at this track two weeks ago in the same grade at this and he was excellent, sitting on the rails before angling out, being held up at a pretty crucial stage but overcoming that to power home into second and clock in at ~1.49 for the run. That time is the same that the favourite in this race ran when he won last time out, just beating Tradition off there. I think he will roll forward into a much better spot from gate 5 and if he isn’t held up this time he will go over the top of Grebeni I am confident.

THE DANGER - #5 - Grebeni
The current Favourite Grebeni has done nothing wrong for the Ryan and Alexiou stable in his three runs back from a spell, saluting well in his last two and does look set to make it three in a row here. He’s got a great racing style that should see him go fine from barrier 10, is dynamic and gets Mcevoy on board. I just think that based on his last race if the aforementioned Tradition had anything go his way the same that Grebeni did he would have beaten him off. Still a leading contender in this field.

VALUE BET  - #7 - Fuller
Fuller can take this out if he’s at his best now. He ran two weeks back at this track where he got buried behind the speed and didn’t really get much of a chance to win there being shoved around a bunch but his class saw him still overcome the poor run and motor home into third behind Robusto. If he gets some clear air this time in, he can take this out.

ROSEHILL R7 - Toyota F'lifts W J McKell Cup (2000m)

Selections:
#2 - Bois D’Argent (NEXT BEST) - $4.40
#12 - Zoumon - $3.60
#4 - Benaud - $14.00
#9 - Steely - $7.00

BEST BET - #2 - Bois D’Argent (NEXT BEST)
Bois D’Argent should go very close here. He raced back at this track two weeks ago in the Lord Mayors Cup and was ever so impressive there after leading them out he looked like he was gone at the 400m but just kept finding more when challenged and refused to go down to win that race. That was as he was hitting form third up so there’s still more improvement to come here fourth up and I think he can beat these.

THE DANGER - #12 - Zoumon
I am guessing that the Waterhouse and Bott stable had considerately brought Zoumon back to racing with the intent of this race and I think that albeit the price being a bit short for him just second up now, it is somewhat understandable that the market is backing him in. He resumed off a 19 week spell last time out at this track and ran very well there, beating all but the winner off. He’s proven second up with two wins in three second up runs and I don’t think he meets the hardest field here.

VALUE BET - #4 - Benaud
Benaud will be contesting the easiest race that he has in a long time. This will be the first race he runs in that isn’t at Group Level in over a year and he hasn’t been seen this time in since powering home in the Mornington Cup when finishing just behind the placegetters at the end of April. He drops back massively in competition for this and is always around the mark, think he runs well here.

Jockey Of The Day – James Mcdonald

Jmac hasn’t been firing the same way of late but that’s simply because the bar he sets for himself is astronomically high. He thrives under the pressure of the Group racing and subsequently has a stack of rides booked for Saturday’s racing at Rosehill, look for him to be picking up a few winners throughout the card.

Multi Tips For Rosehill

I think that we have to tread lightly with a multi on such a competitive day of racing with so many of these horses having been geared for the races on this card. As such, I have given favour to those horses who have drawn good gates, are well weighted and who have top jockeys on as these factors can be all the advantage you need for a win in the circumstances. Best Promotions for Rosehill Racecourse

Promotions are traditionally the primary way for punters to create an edge over the bookies, as they can save your cash when your runner fails to win, in the instance of Unibet they often offer 2nd and 3rd money back in bonus bets for a selection of races on the midweek and Provincial racing days. Coupled with their generous odds I have to put them as the top bookie promotion wise at the moment for Australian racing.

If you are looking for the best promotions this week for Wednesday's racing I wouldn’t look past Unibet, often they offer odds boosts in addition to the money back promotions. Don’t forget to check your account as well for personal offers.

Promotions often change so make sure you sign up at unibet.com.au to see what promotions are applicable to you and you may even be surprised to find some promotions that weren’t mentioned here!
