Rosehill Racecourse 18/02/23

Saturday racing continues at Rosehill in what is well and truly a kick off for an exciting upcoming season of Autumn racing in NSW and there are three group two races featuring on the card to lead us into the Carnival. The feature race of the day is the group 2 PETALUMA HOBARTVILLE STAKES which will be run over the 1400m for a share of $400k prize money. The track is rated a soft 5 and I think that it will remain within this range, rail is in true position.

Rosehill R4 - FUJITSU GENERAL SILVER SLIPPER (1100m)

Selections:
#3 - King’s Gambit (BEST BET) - $2.50
#2 - Cylinder - $3.80
#7 - Mumbai Muse - $8.50
#8 - Platinum Jubilee - $5.00

BEST BET - #3 - King’s Gambit (BEST BET)
King’s Gambit is a genuine G1 horse in my eyes who is just in the process of shaping up. He was short of fitness three weeks ago at this track in the Canonbury which cost him to place second to the all way winner Red Resistance. Red resistance is an anomaly horse and easily the best 2YO around right now. He has the class on these and should no longer lack the fitness. I think he towels them if he shows up.

THE DANGER - #2 - Cylinder
If Jmac was still on Cylinder I think he would be the favourite here. The Cummings runner has been excellent in his two runs since debuting at the races, being the runner up in both. He was sent back to the paddock in late November after his last run at Caulfield and trialled well last week, winning with a nice stride and moving well. I think he will make it closer than the odds suggest between him and King’s Gambit.

VALUE BET  - #7 - Mumbai Muse
Mumbai Muse is racing for the Freedman stable and the filly looks to have a fair bit of talent based of her debut in the Widden a few weeks ago where she motored home from the back to end up third to the in form and smart Learning To Fly who then went on to win the Inglis Millennium last Saturday. The form around her is good enough and I wouldn’t be surprised to see her in the finish.

Rosehill R6 - ROSEHILL B.C. MILLIE FOX (1300m)

Selections:
#2 - Mariama  (NEXT BEST) - $1.95
#7 - Katalin (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $8.00
#6 - Roots  - $7.50
#4 - Honeycreeper  - $23.00

BEST BET - #2 - Mariama - (NEXT BEST)
Joe Pride continues to improve already tried horses and Mariama is an extremely impressive example of this. She got a dream run in the Expressway three weeks ago here and once given clear air Clark barely had to press the button for her to gap her rivals in an overall Beautiful run. She won similarly in the start before that at this track and only has to replicate her last outing to hammer them again.

THE DANGER - #6 - Roots
Roots always runs well but runs particularly well with fresh legs and resumes here after an excellent spring. She won the Inglis Bracelet on Oaks day and then ran a super close second placing in the Summoned. She has had a couple soft trials to ready her for this and is unbeaten fresh. I think she will sit back in the field and storm home late.

VALUE BET  - #7 - Katalin (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Katalin is a James Cummings trained six year old who is proven against this company even though she hasn’t been around the mark for a little bit. However, she has trialled super leading into this and is proven fresh winning three races first up and when last ran at this track she came third. She has drawn for a pretty cozy run and if Schofield can steer her well she will be in the finish, I am confident.

ROSEHILL R9 - CHANDON (BM100) (1400m)

Selections:
#10 - Bullfinch (NEXT BEST)  - $5.00
#1 - Cross Talk  - $2.20
#3 - Welwal  - $13.00
#2 - Supreme  - $20.00

BEST BET - #10 - Bullfinch (NEXT BEST)
Bullfinch has been around the mark for what feels like an eternity now but he just keeps holding form. He ran third to the in form Beaufort Park a few weeks ago at Randwick and didn’t look like he was keen to be sitting on the fence, which then cost him a few strides but he got out there to run home hard into third. It’s scary to back him as he has been costly but I think now he will be able to sit back, save his energy and hurt them late and also finds a beatable field here.

THE DANGER - #1 - Cross Talk
Cross Talk is the clear danger and a deserving favourite and will prove hard to beat with fresh legs for Gai/Bott stable. He was pretty good in the Winter winning the Winter Challenge and then ended the Spring with a Down the track run in the Epsom at the end of his prep. He is undefeated fresh and he looked to be in powerful steed in his recent trial here. He’s going to take catching.

VALUE BET - #3 - Welwal
Welwal resumes for Chris Waller on Saturday and is a horse that I think is much better than his last couple told. He ran in a really messy Golden Eagle where I thought he was going to be near the finish but got held up and screwed about a bunch of times to end up further back in the field but that run is good enough for me to think he will be a genuine horse and I think he could have too much class on these.

Jockey Of The Day – Brenton Avdulla

Avdulla has found great form this year with a near 50% place rate and near 20% strike rate. He has been super consistent in NSW and that has been recognised to a large extent by the bookings that he has been getting. He gets a top selection of rides for some prominent stables such as James Cummings and Chris Waller and I think he is a top shot to pick up at least one win on Saturday at Rosehill.

R2 - #2 - Cylinder - $3.80
R5 - #12 - Kokoro - $7.00
R6 - #6 - Roots - $7.50
R8 - #5 - Zou Tiger - $9.50
R9 - #3 - Welwal - $13.00

Multi Tips For Rosehill

Whilst it is scary to tip in some of the bigger field races I think that with it being early in the season and a lot of runners being on resumption that there are some clear top picks in each field and as such I have combined my best runners of the day into a place multi. Whilst it might not be the same level of value we generally get I think that it is a worthwhile bet and has a good chance of coming in.

Best Promotions for Rosehill Racecourse

Promotions are traditionally the primary way for punters to create an edge over the bookies, as they can save your cash when your runner fails to win, in the instance of Unibet they often offer 2nd and 3rd money back in bonus bets for a selection of races on the midweek and Provincial racing days. Coupled with their generous odds I have to put them as the top bookie promotion wise at the moment for Australian racing.

If you are looking for the best promotions this week for Wednesday's racing I wouldn’t look past Unibet, often they offer odds boosts in addition to the money back promotions. Don’t forget to check your account as well for personal offers.

Promotions often change so make sure you sign up at unibet.com.au to see what promotions are applicable to you and you may even be surprised to find some promotions that weren’t mentioned here!
