Saturday Racing Tips - Rosehill Racecourse 20/01/24

Racing returns to Rosehill this Saturday for a bumper ten race card and there are some high level sprints and staying races and while we have no listed races on the card it should still be a lot of fun with $1.5 million prize money on offer across all the racing. I have picked out my three best betting spots on the card and as such am keen to run through them and give you guys some good bets for tomorrow so follow me below!

BEST BET - #2 - King Of Roseau (BEST BET)
There looks to be two leading prospects in the opener and they are both stablemates but I am just leaning slightly towards King Of Roseau who made his debut a couple weeks ago at Canberra when running all over the place but his class saw him home when winning there. He will be a lot more dialled in now for start number two and I think he can win again.

THE DANGER - #1 - Customized
The other Snowden trained runner in this race is current favourite Customized who debuted in the BJ McLachlan about a month ago at Eagle Farm where he came off a proper speed to run home very well into third place behind a progressive horse. He’s got the right form for this and can go one better now.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Sacred Fort
Sacred Fort has the edge over a lot of these in that he is raced so now coming into this as start number four I think he will have a bit of wit about him that should carry him far. He last ran at Randwick two weeks ago where he loomed to win but just couldn’t get one over one of Godolphin’s better horses that day in Parkour. He’s come up at a huge price given that effort and I think can take this out but will have to get past the Snowden duo.

BEST BET - #2 - Epic Proportions (NEXT BEST)
If you have been following me for some time you would know how much of a fan I am of Maher and Eustace’s Epic Proportions. This horse I am really struggling to see a reason that he isn’t favourite after resuming just over a month ago at The Valley where he ran extremely well in second place despite not being able to get one over Scuderia. He’ll be sharper for that run and maps to get a cheaper time of things here.

THE DANGER - #5 - Soldier And Rome
I think that Soldier And Rome poses the only real danger to Epic Proportions as a well bred horse for the Waterhouse / Bott camp that comes back to racing here after just the one run where he won at Randwick back in March last year in a very good go that saw him keep finding more under pressure to win well. He’s trialled sharply for the return as well. 

VALUE BET  - #3 - Thunderlips
Thunderlips is a resuming horse for Bjorn Baker that has shown a bit of promise in the earlier part of his career and now comes back to racing off of a 14 week break and better for the benefit of a couple trials. I thought his last trial was quite pleasing to watch where he looked to have really come into his frame in the break and his stride was solid. The stable generally has their horses rearing to go quite quickly so I think all things considered he’s a good shot here.

BEST BET - #2 - First Light
Good staying race with lots of chances here but I think that it is hard to jump off First Light coming into this chasing a hat trick of wins. His most recent run at Randwick was extremely impressive when absolutely jetting home to claim the race well. He hasn’t beaten all that much but bar a few key challengers he doesn’t really meet that much here either.

THE DANGER - #5 - Lyrical Gangster
I think if Lyrical Gangster can’t perform at this distance range then there’s no hope for him. In saying that his one pacedness should actually carry him well here and Waller’s stayers are rarely a joke. He comes off the back of a win at Randwick a fortnight ago when being the toughest horse over the 2000m. I think she’s going to be a tough customer again here.

VALUE BET - #3 - Yankee Hussel (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)  
Yankee Hussel is a sharp animal for Kris Lees that just keeps winning so it would be callous to ignore him now. He won two back at Gosford over the 2100m in good fashion when finding a big kick in the straight before coming off a short three week break and running over the 1900m at Canterbury where she found plenty to win well again. I think she’s a very dynamic animal who can run well at this trip for the first time.

Avdulla has found great form this year with a near 50% place rate and near 20% strike rate. He has been super consistent in NSW and that has been recognised to a large extent by the bookings that he has been getting. He gets a top selection of rides for some prominent stables such as James Cummings and Chris Waller and I think he is a top shot to pick up at least one win on Rosehill at Rosehill.

Whilst it is scary to tip in some of the bigger field races I think that with it being early in the season and a lot of runners being on resumption that there are some clear top picks in each field and as such I have combined my best runners of the day into a place multi. Whilst it might not be the same level of value we generally get I think that it is a worthwhile bet and has a good chance of coming in.
