Saturday Racing Tips - Rosehill Racecourse 22/07/23

Racing returns to Rosehill off the back of some high level contests at the course in recent weeks and the Winter Carnival kicks on with Winter Challenge Day at the course set for tomorrow. There are ten high level races on the card, mostly in BM72+ grades or Open contests with the Toyota Winter Challenge being the feature of the day, a 1500m race run for a share of $160k prize money. There looks to be some good betting spots on the card so follow me below as I outline my best spots on race day.

Rosehill R2 - Racing For Good On July 29 Hcp (1200m)

Selections:
#10 - Taormina (BEST BET) - $2.90
#1 - Inhibitions - $4.40
#2 - Extreme Spirit - $13.00
#3 - Fukubana - $4.20

BEST BET - #10 - Taormina (BEST BET)
I am pretty keen on the front running Waterhouse and Bott two year old filly Taormina who looks to be an ultra progressive horse after debuting about a month ago at Warwick farm over this distance where she lead throughout and was there to be beaten but had plenty for them to hold all at bay. It’s hard to steer away from the Waterhouse/Bott juveniles and think she is no exception.

THE DANGER - #1 - Inhibitions
Inhibitions is probably looking for a bit longer than this for Cummings but in saying that it wouldn’t surprise me at all if she won this dominantly. She is racing first up for this contest after not having raced since the end of April during the Championships at Randwick where she was at the end of her prep and didn’t have much left in the tank. She has been flying in two tick over trials to lead her back into racing and as long as the run doesn’t start too late in the piece she will be dangerous.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Extreme Spirit
Extreme Spirit should be making big improvements into this race second up off a long spell for Gary Portelli. The juvenile returned to racing off an 18 week spell at the beginning of the month at Flemington in the Next Gen. Sprinters where he set just behind the pace and fought hard from the 150m but peaked just a bit too late in the run and finished third there. He will have plenty more to offer here second up and I think it’s just a matter of timing that big finish to perfection to see him in the placegetters.

Rosehill R5 - Rosehill Bowling Club (Bm72) (1100m)

Selections:
#2 - Brudenell - $2.60
#7 - Givara - $4.40
#3 - So Good So Cool (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $7.50
#4 - Huon- $13.00

BEST BET - #2 - Brudenell
Surely it should be quite tough for anything to beat Brudenell here. The Kris Lees trained Gelding has been very good this preparation. He resumed off a 15 week spell and won nicely here over the 1100m before taking a three week break and coming back to Randwick a fortnight ago when leading and finding every bit of gas to try win the race but the smart Insurrection got the money over him. The last 50-100m will be scary but for the most part he should be a long way in front of these.

THE DANGER - #7 - Givara
Givara has been running times and winning in a way that makes him a danger in this field for the Hawkes stable. He hasn’t put his foot wrong in his lst three runs, the last two of which being quite dominant wins at Newcastle and Warwick Farm over this distance where I am not sure he beat too much but the way he did it, particularly last time out at Warwick Farm, when we were on in our free Wednesday racing tips, was outstanding. He set at the back then and let them get out front, being off the lead by eight lengths at the top straight before powering over the field and saluting seemingly with ease. He’s hard fit, this looks his ideal distance and he will be dangerous at the end.

VALUE BET  - #3 - So Good So Cool (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
So Good So Cool is a 1200m specialist and comes into this fit and off the back of a run in an 1100m Randwick race three weeks ago where he only started to get warm when Insurrection and the aforementioned Brudenell were going through the line. Before then he put together two sharp 1200m wins and with Gibbo aboard from gate one they are sure to be prominent.

ROSEHILL R8 - Toyota Winter Challenge (1500m)

Selections:
#15 - Semana (NEXT BEST) - $4.40
#10 - Resonator - $5.00
#9 - Acquitted - $9.50
#5 - Longvillers - $8.00

BEST BET - #15 - Semana (NEXT BEST)
Interesting edition of the Winter Challenge but I do think it’s gonna be tough to beat Semana for Maher and Eustace under Dylan Gibbons who has only been unplaced in 2 of her 11 career starts and is a five time winner. She won a 1400m race at this track three weeks ago dominantly, leading by two lengths and never relinquishing that lead. She’s hard fit, given a nice little break for this and shapes up very well here from the low draw. She should slide forward and Gibbons will know how to control her from out front to save something for them at the end.

THE DANGER - #10 - Resonator
Resonator should have plenty to offer here for the Waterhouse / Bott stable. He recorded two sharp wins at the course two and three back, one over this distance and one over the 1400m before racing last time out in a strong BM78 at Randwick where he jumped awkwardly, bumping another runner but recovering and finding the lead there, I think that the early trouble might have just told late though as he just found one better in Battleton who had a perfect ride. Fit, in form, loves this track and trip and is a winning chance.

VALUE BET - #9 - Acquitted
You would have to think Acquitted is close to winning his first Stakes race for Kris Lees and this is as soft a chance as he will get. He raced in the listed Winter Stakes two weeks back at Randwick where he was held up and had to continue shifting wider and wider at the 200m to find a run and when he did he powered away from them to beat all but the winner. With a more economical run he wins that and I think that reads very well for this as he was beaten by flying stablemate Ucalledit on that day.

Jockey Of The Day – Brenton Avdulla

Avdulla has found great form this year with a near 50% place rate and near 20% strike rate. He has been super consistent in NSW and that has been recognised to a large extent by the bookings that he has been getting. He gets a top selection of rides for some prominent stables such as James Cummings and Chris Waller and I think he is a top shot to pick up at least one win on Saturday at Rosehill.

R2 - #2 - Cylinder - $3.80
R5 - #12 - Kokoro - $7.00
R5 - #6 - Roots - $7.50
R8 - #5 - Zou Tiger - $9.50
R9 - #3 - Welwal - $13.00

Multi Tips For Rosehill

Whilst it is scary to tip in some of the bigger field races I think that with it being early in the season and a lot of runners being on resumption that there are some clear top picks in each field and as such I have combined my best runners of the day into a place multi. Whilst it might not be the same level of value we generally get I think that it is a worthwhile bet and has a good chance of coming in.

Best Promotions for Rosehill Racecourse

Promotions are traditionally the primary way for punters to create an edge over the bookies, as they can save your cash when your runner fails to win, in the instance of Unibet they often offer 2nd and 3rd money back in bonus bets for a selection of races on the midweek and Provincial racing days. Coupled with their generous odds I have to put them as the top bookie promotion wise at the moment for Australian racing.

If you are looking for the best promotions this week for Wednesday's racing I wouldn’t look past Unibet, often they offer odds boosts in addition to the money back promotions. Don’t forget to check your account as well for personal offers.

Promotions often change so make sure you sign up at unibet.com.au to see what promotions are applicable to you and you may even be surprised to find some promotions that weren’t mentioned here!
