Saturday Racing Tips - Rosehill Racecourse 26/08/23

Racing kicks on again at Rosehill as the Group 1 races season is well and truly underway and we have a belter ten race card on the horizon with two listed races to highlight the day and the 1100m Smithfield RSL San Domenico Stakes which will be run for a share of $250,000 and supported by the prior CMNL Up And Coming Stakes, run over 1300m and also for a share of $250,000 prize money. I am very keen to get stuck into things, track conditions look great and let’s get some winners this Saturday at Rosehill!

BEST BET - #8 - Marquess (NEXT BEST)
Marquess looks like an ultra progressive horse for the Godolphin stable and he went away for a very long spell of 72 weeks after winning two on the trot and then resumed at the midweeks at Warwick Farm a couple weeks ago where he was wide with cover and deep in the run and then came into the race on the turn and came away from them late for a very impressive win. You wouldn’t think many horses have what it takes to do that first up off a more than year spell, should be tough to beat now second up with Jmac aboard.

THE DANGER - #6 - Green Shadows
I have always been a fan of the Ryan and Alexiou stable trained Green Shadows who looks set to peak here fourth up and has had three great runs on the bounce since resuming off an 18 week spell where he just keeps finding one better. However now he comes out to 1500m after two very solid 1400m runs where in the last he looked the winner until the smart Chorlton Lane got the better of her. She’s as honest as they come and will give Marquess a run for his money.

VALUE BET  - #9 - Sweysive
Winning form is good form and the Bjorn Baker trained Sweysive has put together a few sharp wins and a handful of close placings this campaign and now comes into this flying, well weighted at 55.5kg and with leading jockey Dylan Gibbons on. His last run saw him race two wide all trip at this distance and find the front, looked the winner, when the tough run just told late and he was overrun by the smart Principessa. He looks well placed staying at the distance and with a more economical run this time in he can win again.

BEST BET - #10 - Howgoodareyou (BEST BET)
Pretty keen on Howgoodareyou here before the listed racing kicks off. The Waterhouse / Bott stable is just absolutely killing things this season and this particular runner hasn’t put in a bad effort in three runs to kick off his career. Two back he beat off all but the flying / super progressive Kangaroo Court where he jumped awkwardly and also bumped another runner where he arguably would have won. That was at this track and trip and the form behind Kangaroo Court is easily the best in this field. Last time out he raced in the midweeks at Kenso where he reeled them in easily after leading. He looks to have plenty more to offer here, gets Clarky aboard and gets in nicely weighted. I think he is one of the better bets on the program.

THE DANGER - #1 - Powerful Peg 
Powerful Peg is a high class animal for Kris Lees who will definitely measure up here. His last two runs have been sharp wins at Warwick Farm before coming to this track over the 1400m where the run presented at the right time and he won impressively. The tactics were also suggested to change from there as they now think he should be ridden further forward and now gets a key claim from Mclucas so gets in nicely weighted and rates highly against this field. Top chance.

VALUE BET  - #6 - Lolly Yeats
Lolly Yeats is a high class mare for Annabel Neasham that has hit serious form in just her few career starts. She has had just the three starts this time in for the stable and really clicked up in her last when leading all the way and still finding plenty when being challenged to win and win well. She has a very good and dynamic run style and can find the front and be hard to hold out here.

BEST BET - #4 - The Instructor 
The Instructor is another Gai / Bott product who resumed off of a long 24 week spell two weeks ago in the Rosebud over this track / trip where he set on the speed and showed plenty of heart to keep finding more under pressure when missing only a length and a half to Tiz Invincible. He will be sure to make serious improvements into this race and I think will have a big showing here. 

THE DANGER - #9 - Kandinsky Abstract 
Kadinsky Abstract is being somewhat thrown in the deep end here but looks to be a serious horse for Chris Waller who resumes here after just the one career start where he debuted at Canterbury over the 1200m back in May and ran a great bit of time to score dominantly there. He’s had a couple of lead up trials to lead him back into racing, the latest of which was a sharp win that saw him go very well. He gets the booking of Jmac now which signals serious intent and I think he will be in this for a long way.

VALUE BET - #2 - Barber (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Barber is a track specialist and the form around him reads very well for this assignment and I think he definitely has the class to take this out. He ran in a scat Blue Diamond and then got caught four wide in the Golden Slipper and then running a close placing in the Kindergarten and going away for a spell. He’s had three trials to ready for his return so there is clearly a level of intent from the stable and I if he puts it all together he could take this out upon return. Watch how he looks in the yard.

Avdulla has found great form this year with a near 50% place rate and near 20% strike rate. He has been super consistent in NSW and that has been recognised to a large extent by the bookings that he has been getting. He gets a top selection of rides for some prominent stables such as James Cummings and Chris Waller and I think he is a top shot to pick up at least one win on Saturday at Rosehill.

Whilst it is scary to tip in some of the bigger field races I think that with it being early in the season and a lot of runners being on resumption that there are some clear top picks in each field and as such I have combined my best runners of the day into a place multi. Whilst it might not be the same level of value we generally get I think that it is a worthwhile bet and has a good chance of coming in.
