Saturday Racing Tips - Sandown Hillside Racecourse 10/06/23

Metro Grade Racing continues at Sandown this weekend in somewhat of a support capacity for the huge day we have at Eagle Farm and there are ten races on the card, with a handful of high grade Benchmark races, some exciting sprints and the lone staying race in race three. There’s a total purse of $1.2 million available across the card, the track is rated a Heavy 8 and the rail is out 5m for the entire circuit. Follow me below as I outline my best betting spots of the day at Sandown Hillside Racecourse.

BEST BET - #3 - Free Willed (NEXT BEST)
Free Willed looks to be going very well for the Alderson stable after putting together a few solid wins on the road she raced at Flemington three weeks ago in a string BM78 where she just couldn’t find a path to weave in the straight and finished just behind the placegetters but really should have gone a lot closer then. She maps to have it much easier and I trust the steering of Yendall to see her competitive in this.

THE DANGER - #7 - Extratwo
It’s pretty hard to ignore the Maher and Eustace trained Extratwo who changed over to the camp sometime late last year and has since come back from a 30 week spell at Kyneton as a very short favourite where he jumped well, found the rail and was never in doubt from there, saluting easily albeit not beating much off. He gets in at just 51kg with Pinn retaining the ride and should make big improvements second up now.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Jenny Jerome
Jenny Jerome is going so well for Patrick Payne and I think he could easily take this out. He came from near last Felmington last time out in the race that Free Willed was in where she shifted out wide at the turn and powered over them to win dominantly. She did similar two back at Flemington, coming from last that time to salute. Third up now, hard fit and if she can settle just a touch closer than she normally does in this field it will be hard for them to hold her out.

BEST BET - #2 - Artika
Artika is a bomb fresh horse for the Maher and Eustace Camp that looks to have returned in very good order. He is undefeated second up with two wins in two runs and comes into this off the back of his return to racing from an eighteen week spell when racing a month ago at Flemington and showing he has returned in good order, only beaten a few lengths by the hard fit / in form Party for One. I think she’s going to go very well now and can maintain her undefeated second up record.

THE DANGER - #4 - Frigid
Clear threat in this field is the John Leek Jr trained Frigid who is looking more than up to the task here now. He resumed off a twenty week break during the Warrnambool Carnival and did a lot of good work fresh there in the mud, chasing hard to just fall short of the placegetters. He has since come to this track and trip a fortnight ago and he found the line very nicely from far back to just miss to Pitchanun. He should lob more forward now hard fit and be able to maintain it, will be strong late either way.

VALUE BET  - #11 - Dane On Tour (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Dane On Tour had an absolutely cracking prep last time out in the Summer, winning one and running close placings in two from five starts and clocked some really fast times which should see him go well for this. he came back to racing two weeks ago off a sixteen week spell and battled on well from deep in the run there when far from disgraced. He might need one more run but up in trip and drawing the rails are both very positive for his run style and I am convinced he will look the winner at least some of the way.

BEST BET - #Unseen Ruler 
I do think that Golden Path is one of the best overall bets of the day tomorrow. The Price & Kent trained runner has just had the one run to kick his career off at Pakenham over the 1400m three weeks ago but it was an amazing display of confidence he gave there. He sat on the pace before taking over at the 250m and winning easily, with plenty in hand. The extra 200m should only aid his cause now and I think he will be very hard to beat.

THE DANGER - #1 - Elkington Road
Elkington Road is holding form very well this prep which should see him competitive in this. He ran two back at this track over the 1800m where he was strong from being buried deep and back in the run to finish just outside of the placegetters and then dropped back to the Mile at this track again when coming from on the speed to really put his head down and motor home for a strong meritful win. I don’t think they would just throw him into this race at end of prep for no reason and if he holds form he has what it takes to shake this up.

VALUE BET - #7 - Unseen Ruler
Unseen Ruler is sneaky flying for Matty Williams and comes into this hard fit and fourth up, definitely able to make an impact in this field. He resumed here over the 1300m under Yendall and was strong coming from a wide and deep run to end up Midfield before going onto a heavy run over the 1400m during the Warrnambool carnival and saluting dominantly, giving a sight in the last 200m. He’s since had a run at the mile when not disgraced but I think he does his best work in the wet which is what he gets here and they can run a cracker race now.
