Saturday Racing Tips - Sandown Racecourse 06/05/23

Saturday racing at Sandown returns to finish off what has been an awesome Autumn carnival and we have nine races with some ultra competitive sprints and a handful of staying races. The quality of racing is up to BM100 and we should see some good types go around. There’s 1.2 million dollars worth of prize, the rail is out eight meters and the track has been rated a soft 6, follow me below as I outline my best bets of the day!

Sandown R1 - Ian Miller Hcp (1300m)

Selections:
#9 - Long Lost Friend (NEXT BEST) - $5.50
#3 - Hydrogen Power - $4.50
#10 - Optume - $9.50
#5 Porter - $8.00

BEST BET - #9 - Long Lost Friend (NEXT BEST)
Long Lost Friend has been very good so far in her two starts for the Brisbourne. She sat near the speed on debut over the 1100m at Bendigo and dominantly saluted there, angling clear off the turn and kicking away. She then went to the Mornington Sires where she found the line well but just missed out on the placings. That run should have her better fitness wise, draws well and out to 1300m looks positive.

THE DANGER - #3 - Hydrogen Power
Hydrogen Power is a very good looking juvenile for the Mick Price and Michael Kent stable who didn’t really fire during the spring but has been spelled and now has looked very sharp in a few Jumpouts to lead her into this. The last of those was very good when he just trucked along on the speed to run second. He’s an expensive horse and I think he should run according to the price tag first up.

VALUE BET  - #10 - Optume
Not often does a horse shed the maiden tag and go on with it for another win but Optume has been very good in the past second up and she has a great run style. Her win was very good last time out at Pakenham over the 1200m where she led them and was there to be beaten but just kept finding the line to score. I think she will be much fitter for that and has that winning feeling under her belt, out to 1300m she looks well placed to go over again.

Sandown R2 - Rod Fenwick Hcp (1000m)

Selections:
#1 - Bay Thirteen (BEST BET) - $3.10
#6 - Written Swoosh - $4.50
#5 - Tanto - $8.50
#8 - End Journey - $11.00

BEST BET - #1 - Bay Thirteen (BEST BET)
Bay Thirteen looks a very nice type for Matt Laurie after having had a break since Oaks Day at Flemington where she raced on the speed and just kept finding the line to end up third to a smart type in Aitch Two Oh when beaten just under a length. He has had to Jumpouts to lead him into the return with the latest being a soft win over the 700m at Mornington. She handles the wet and should be super competitive first up.

THE DANGER - #6 - Written Swoosh
Written Swoosh has a genuine motor and could be set up for bigger races moving on from here. The P stokes filly has had just the two career outings, when on debut in the Blue Diamond Preview last year and wow she was excellent there, placing second and then going for a short break before coming back to The Valley and missing the start and the subsequent effort that he needed to put on from there cost her. The jump out work has been very good for this and she has the class on a lot of these.

VALUE BET  - #5 - Tanto
Tanto should look very strong back to sprint distance now for the Ellerton stable, she’s had three weeks between runs since racing in the VOBIS Gold Dash at this track over the 1200m and she crossed early, lobbing onto the speed trying so hard but just went down late to She Dances, beaten by a significant margin but that run was very good. She draws better now, drops back in distance, is free running and should be hard to run down if she finds the front.

Sandown R5 - Jra (Bm78) (1600m)

Selections:
#5 - Cap De Joie - $2.60
#3 - Unusual Culture - $8.00
#10 - Thought Provoking (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $8.00
#2 - Belle Savoir - $6.50

BEST BET - #5 - Cap De Joie
Cap De Joie is a very strong type for Nick Ryan who has had an outstanding prep thus far, just barely missing fresh at this course over the 1400m in an ever brave effort, coming from off the pace to motor home into second. She then went to the Valley over this distance, shifted out wide at about the 600m mark and jetted home to score dominantly. Had a subsequent close placing at Geelong last time out when her and the winner gapped the field and that was behind a very progressive horse in Fancylanski. Looks very well placed to make it two wins in four starts now.

THE DANGER - #3 - Unusual Culture
Unusual culture is performing very well this campaign. Last time out she ran at this track over the 1500m about a month ago and she overcame a suck run to drive through the pack and finish on top by under a length. That run was full of merit however and should be fitter now, only take a 100m step up in trip and this race isn’t too strong for her at all relative to what she has been contesting.

VALUE BET - #10 - Thought Provoking (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Not sure if I am seeing it wrong or the market is but I think that Thought Provoking is in equal top contention with the aforementioned Cap De Joie. She resumed a couple weeks back at Mornington behind some good types and she really should have won, being held up multiple times in the straight and finally getting clear but it was just too late and she headed into second. She gets out onto a bigger track now and should find some clear room without too much adversity this time. Will be very strong late.

Jockey Of The Day – Jye Mcniel

Jye McNeil is an accomplished jockey, having won several black type races, including the prestigious 2020 Melbourne Cup aboard Twilight Payment. He has also received the Victoria Racing Club's Champion Jockey Award in two consecutive seasons (2019/20 and 2020/21), underscoring his reputation as one of Victoria's finest jockeys. He is known to perform exceptionally well on major race days, and he has secured a significant number of rides for this weekend's racing at Sandown Park Lakeside, I have outlined them all below:

R3 - #6 - Manhattan Thunder - $12.00

Multi Tips For Sandown Racecourse

One of the most significant considerations in picking up multiple winners is the track bias, which favors horses that don’t get too far back in the run at Flemington Racecourse. As a result, horses drawn on the inside have a better chance of performing well compared to those drawn towards the outside. I have factored in this aspect when making my multi bets, taking into account the horses' respective preps and their drawn barrier positions. Follow below for a multi to track over race day!

R2 - #4 - Good And Proper - PLC $2.20
R3 - #4 - She Dances - PLC $1.45
R5 - #9 - Running By - PLC $1.20

Total Odds = $3.82
$50 Stake = $191.40 Return!

Best Promotions for Sandown Racecourse

Promotions are traditionally the primary way for punters to create an edge over the bookies, as they can save your cash when your runner fails to win, in the instance of Unibet they often offer 2nd and 3rd money back in bonus bets for a selection of races on the midweek and Provincial racing days. Coupled with their generous odds I have to put them as the top bookie promotion wise at the moment for Australian racing.

If you are looking for the best promotions this week for Wednesday's racing I wouldn’t look past Unibet, often they offer odds boosts in addition to the money back promotions. Don’t forget to check your account as well for personal offers.

Promotions often change so make sure you sign up at unibet.com.au to see what promotions are applicable to you and you may even be surprised to find some promotions that weren’t mentioned here!
