Saturday Racing Tips - Sunshine Coast Racecourse 01/07/23

It’s Winx Guineas day at Sunshine Coast already and wow it feels like this year’s racing season is just flying past us with an incredible spring season of Group 1 racing behind us and we look forward now to a huge nine race card with the feature of the day being the Double R Group Winx Guineas, a WFA for a share of $300k prize money that is supported by Stakes races on either side of it. The track is rated a soft 5 and the rail is in true position, follow me below as I outline my best betting spots on the card!

BEST BET - #4 - Femme Fatale (NEXT BEST)
I am going to try to build a bit of a bank roll early for tomorrow and have landed on the Schweida trained Femme Fatale who gets a key booking from Jimmy Orman for this assignment. Can’t knock winning form and that is all she has done in her two career outings, they both came over this track and trip where she didn’t beat much but the way in which she has done it and the splits she has recorded inspire me with plenty of confidence. With a top rider engaged, extra fitness and a liking for this course I think she’s the one to beat.

THE DANGER - #1 - Defiant Spirit 
The market is giving lots of respect to Defiant Spirit and I can see why. This Kendrick trained juvenile has hardly put a foot wrong in two career starts to date. He debuted at this track and trip where he set two wide and fourth early racing greenly but improving through the run and then taking over three wide, running up and in and being far too good for them here. He then raced last time out at Ipswich over the same distance where he hampered at the start and set near last in the field before starting a powerful run at the turn and nearly claimed the race but was just too far back to start when coming second there. Looks astutely placed here to make it two wins from three starts.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Spirit Of Brodie
Spirit Of Brodie is trained here and demands some level of respect accordingly. He had a two run Autumn Prep, both runs coming at Eagle Farm where he was just outside of the placegetters but was far from disgraced in both. He then resumed at this track and trip where he looked to have found one better in Ser Joh, who then threw the race away and Spirit Of Brodie was powering down the straight to claim the race. The stable is astute here and trains the favourite in this race but always have to watch for all their runners.

BEST BET - #1 - Golden Boom (BEST BET)
It’s hard for me to get away from these sprints as they are generally where I make my most confident bets and I think that Golden Boom at this point the cat is out the bag and we know he is a true 1000m horse. He also loves running here, being undefeated in two starts at the course. He comes into this four weeks between runs where last time out he sat on the speed and battled down the straight well behind Red Card. He should have plenty to offer off the short break and I think will be very hard to beat. Happy to be in his corner at ~$1.70.

THE DANGER - #13 - Vodka Martini
Vodka Martini is another from the Kelly Schweida stable that has to be respected coming from the local powerhouse. He hasn’t been seen at the races since late January at Doomben where he sat on the speed and had a kick but it just wasn’t enough and he came second to an in form / fit Busting. He had a sharp tick over trial which makes me confident in how primed he is for the return and gets in at just 50kg after the claim and he won’t know himself with that little weight on his back, only runs well IMO.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Bring Me Kash
Bring Me Kash is a true sprinter and loves this course. He won over this track and trip three weeks ago where he sat outside the speed and looked to give in from the tough run but found plenty after the turn when asked for it and won well there. Again, I expect him to be scary inside that last 100-150m but he is well placed at this distance and track and should only run well, definite top chance to fill a trifecta.

BEST BET - #2 - Soothsayer
This race historically has been quite open but I do think that Soothsayer has been worked towards this race specifically. He comes into this three weeks between runs, last racing in the Gunsynd when he set just behind the pace and kept finding more when asked for it under the whip to just miss to the hard fit / in form Rediener. That form reads well for this and he’s had a sharp tick over trial at the Gold Coast last week, should be very fit for this fourth up and still have more to offer here.

THE DANGER - #4 - Grebeni
Grebeni is a horse I have a lot of time for coming from the Ryan / Alexiou stable who I have endless time for. He has seen a dominant prep thus far with three wins away from home. The last two of those wins have been at the 1800m at Rosehill and his run style has seen him come on far too strong for them late. The form around him is good enough / some better than what he receives today for this assignment and given how he runs 1600m should be no issue for him here.

VALUE BET - #13 - Knight’s Choice (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
We have backed Knight’s Choice a couple times and after being beaten badly at Ipswich when we first started following him he hasn’t put a foot wrong. He’s won his last three races all away from home with the most recent being at the midweeks at Doomben where he let them get way out in front over this distance before spanking them on the straight. I think he will be onto bigger races than this soon enough but the stable wouldn’t just throw him in here for no reason and I only see him going well again.
