Wednesday Racing Tips - Belmont Racecourse 08/02/23

Racing at Belmont continues off the back of a successful weekend in WA with some really exciting races and smart winners emerging on race day. The Midweek card is a stacked eight race card as the Western Australian Summer Carnival nears an end. There is a total of $225,000 prize money on offer across the races, the weather is expected to be clear and hot with a soft 5 track and the rail is out +13m.

BEST BET - #1 - Megami (BEST BET)
Megami does look like a clear top pick in this field. She has been having an exceptional campaign with three wins and three placings in seven runs this campaign and gets another chance to add to that record at Belmont tomorrow. Her last win was at this track/trip where she had the best late splits of the meeting and really looks to be a progressive horse. Pike retains the ride and I’m sure the wizard will give her every chance.

THE DANGER - #5 - Ihts Closing Inn
Ihts Closing Inn looks to be the main threat to Megami in this field. She’s racing for the Durrant stable under Johnston-Porter and must be respected coming into this third up and off the back of a nice win at Geraldton over the 1400m. He took over there at the 100m to draw clear of that field to no one’s surprise and should be rock hard fit third up now. Top chance to win again.

VALUE BET  - #6 - She's Fit
She’s Fit returned to the races from a long spell just over a week ago at Pinjarra when being luckless in running, sitting three wide with no cover all race. The run told and she was never able to get into the race but the best closing splits of the race in a brave run. She is definitely one to be followed off the back of that and with Parnham on they can win this.

BEST BET - #3 - Wednesday (NEXT BEST)
I think Wednesday is being somewhat overlooked and should be the favourite here. She is screaming for a win with her last two runs being impressive third placings at Ascot behind some smart types, she’s been running bravely in both however. She has the clear best closing splits last time out at Ascot over this distance and with an extra few meters she would have won that. She maps to sit back and run them down late and if she doesn’t give them too much head start she will win.

THE DANGER - #2 - Regal Access
Regal Access is the clear danger in this race. He looks to be a talented horse, having resumed to the races after a fifteen week spell at Ascot over this distance in October where he led all the way to win. He used his frontrunning ability to steer clear of danger in a messy race and still showed a good kick, being strong to the line late. He resumes here now after a sixteen week spell and is proven first up, should be in the finish.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Ruuca 
Ruuca is a horse that looks like she may have just needed the first up run for fitness and race experience but she is ridden best with fresh legs. She has two wins in five second up attempts but really didn’t do much last time out at Ascot over the 1100m. She gets the blinkers back on now which will help her to run her own race. I think that if she improves off that last run and does what she wants in this she can take it out.

BEST BET - #6 - Aiyza
Aiyza gets Holly Watson back on board and looks to hit back here after a decent run at Ascot three weeks ago when leading and showing a strong kick at the 250m but then just dropping off in the latter stages of the run. I think that from that back down to 1400m looks good and before then had been running well. She likes it dry and I think that will be the key to her. If she gets the conditions she wants she will beat these.

THE DANGER - #2 - Snippy Miss 
Snippy Miss made her return to the races at the beginning of this year at this track over the 1200m and she was really solid there. She just kept coming on strong all run but peaked just a bit too early and was stormed over by a lot of the field 100m out from the finish. The added fitness from that looks like all she needs to pick up a win now and if Gaerth can give her the ride she will fight out the finish.

VALUE BET - #1 - Kendel's Mee Dad (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Kendel's Mee Dad is the stablemate to a couple other good chances in this race but she strikes my interest as her times rate her near the top of this field. She’s had quite a long prep which is a query but has picked up a win and placed at her most recent run over the 1500m at Albany. She was wide throughout there, doing it tough and showing her fitness and class and I think she settles much closer here and can go over again here.
