Wednesday Racing Tips - Canterbury Racecourse 01/02/23

The midweeks continue at Canterbury for the first card of February and there are some nice types who look to be preparing for Autumn in NSW here. There are three maiden races to kick off the card with four of the seven races being over the 1250m and $55k prize for all races, we should have an exciting afternoon at Canterbury. The rail is out +8m and the track is predicted to be a good 4 but we will see how much rain there is in the next couple days.

BEST BET - #1 - Hollywood Hero (BEST BET)
Hollywood Hero finds another beatable field off the back of a smart debut on the 1st of January this year and looked great with Dyl Gibbons on when third behind some smart horses. He was held up there until the last 100m and when given clear running powered home, should have finished much closer. The time was good and I think with Jmac on they should find a good spot to sit and run them down late.

THE DANGER - #7 - Lalaguna 
Maher and Eustace and Avdulla combine under Lalaguna who sat on the rails to lead last time out at Warwick Farm racecourse after a short spell from the races and ended up being just run down late to finish second. The time there was good for this and he was unlucky to not win there, fitter now and better for the run I think he goes close here.

VALUE BET  - #8 - Sequestered 
James Cummings has to be respected here. His stable is absolutely flying and the lightly raced three year old, Sequestered, races for just the second time after placing at this track in the mud on debut. He ran a decent time even being on the bog track and being caught out wide all run and did enough on debut to suggest there will be improvement into this. Nash sticks and they get firmer ground this time.

BEST BET - #3 - Tawfiq Lass (NEXT BEST)
I think Tawfiq Lass is in with a good shot here. He rates a fair bit above this field and is generally strong second up, with two wins in four second up runs. Last time out he raced first up on a bog track and looks to have been put into that for fitness and toughness when wide throughout and still chasing until the end of the race. He has won here before, Gibbons takes over from Duggan and I think there’s a good chance he takes this out.

THE DANGER - #1 - Dynamic Impact
Dynamic Impact resumed about six weeks ago at this track and bolted in to win first up over this distance. That was an impressive win with a race best last 600m and two horses from that race have since won so the form is stacking up. Last start just wasn’t up to it at Rosehill up in grade but drops back to BM72 here and is undefeated at this track.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Game Theory 
Game Theory is an honest horse racing for the prominent Snowden Stable who has been shouting for a win with three second placings in five runs. Most recently was second at Gosford over the 1200m, only being run down late when lost some plates on the straight and looked the winner. Jmac is aboard now and gets a chance to win again.

BEST BET - #6 - Field Wiri (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Field Wiri hasn’t done much wrong in her two starts this prep. When resuming at Gosford over the 1100m as an odds on fav she went across heels and drove up for an impressive first up win in the last 200m. Then went on to Gosford when nearly making it 2 from 2, losing both front plates during running and still scraping into second place. She looks to be improving this prep and I think she finds a winnable race, mapping to sit on the speed which is where you want to be in this one and should still have something in hand on the straight.

THE DANGER - #1 -  Recommendation 
Recommendation has to be respected here racing under Tim Clark for the Maher and Eustace camp. He comes into this second up after placing third in BM72 company at Warwick farm, running a good time in the process and pulling up with some abrasions to the nose. He drops back in grade here and the race doesn’t look to have much speed at all, from the wide gate I think he jumps on the bunny and finds the lead easily, gives them something to have to run down and they might not get there.

VALUE BET - #11 - Dame Cartland 
Dame Cartland comes off a first up win at Kembla Grange when resuming after 20 weeks at the track over the 1200m on firm ground as a short favourite and lived up the price taking over at the 300m and racing away. He had plenty on that field and progresses up to this now for a harder test.

Who else but James Mcdonald, the best jockey in the country and also excelling particularly in his homeground of NSW tracks. He goes to Canterbury on Wednesday to race prominently for Chris Waller, Bjorn Baker and the Snowden camp and gets a nice booking of rides.
