Wednesday Racing Tips - Canterbury Racecourse 07/06/23

Midweek racing kicks on at Canterbury off the back of a great contest last week and there are three maidens to kick off the card before the next four races to be contested in Benchmark 72 grade. As usual, there are some of the more prominent NSW stables who have put forward runners that are on debut and look exciting as well as some that are further into their prep and progressing towards Saturday grade racing. I have found some good betting spots on the card so follow me below as I outline my best bets for Canterbury's racing on Wednesday!

Canterbury R1 - Casino Prince@vinery Stud Mdn (1100m)

Selections:
#1 - Power Ballard (NEXT BEST) - $3.70
#2 - Commemorative - $2.00
#3 - Feronia - $14.00
#6 - Miss Emma - $8.00

BEST BET - #1 - Power Ballard (NEXT BEST)
I am going with the Waterhouse / Bott combination over Cummings with this two year old field as even though they are both flying with their juveniles, lately the former of the two has been getting the upper hand and Power Ballard has a run on board which was strong. I think if we are getting her at double the odds of the Cummings runner it is definitely worth a shot. She motored home into third on debut at this track just over a fortnight ago over the 1100m and should improve sharply off the back of that.

THE DANGER - #2 - Commemorative
Commemorative is a very well bed filly for James Cummings that is making her debut here. She’s a filly by I Am Invincible who has been moving very nicely in the trial work and looks set to make it a winning debut. Most recently, she won a trial three weeks ago at Hawkesbury in nice time. Looks like a free running type and gets Jmac on for start number one, top chance.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Feronia
Feronia is a Krise Lees trained debutant who looks set for start one off the back of some very nice trial work. She has looked to absolutely truck along in three public trials, all over 800m where she has clocked some nice times and seemingly is moving very well. Dylan Gibbons gets the booking which sees her well weighted for start one and should have plenty of options from barrier one.

Canterbury R5 - Ranvet (Bm72) (1100m)

Selections:
#11 - Lovero  - $5.00
#6 - Zanzibar Gem - $5.50
#3 - Star Spirit (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $8.50
#1 - Never Second - $6.50

BEST BET - #11 - Lovero
Lovero looks very well placed here to go over first up for the Ryan and Alexiou stable and resumes here off of a 27 week spell and generally goes well fresh, winning and placing in a run each from four first up runs. He has the class edge on these and at his best has some lengths on them. He moved very nicely in a recent trial behind Passeggiata which should see him right for this. I think there’s intent here and will be hard to beat.

THE DANGER - #6 - Zanzibar Gem
Zanzibar Gem is another very smart horse that resumes here and should have lengths on these at his best. He went back to the paddock for a spell after winning at this track and trip and has a win and close second placing in four fresh runs, should run very well here first up. He’s had two tick over trials to ready him for this and whilst he has been ridden quite quietly in those, I think that he will be ready to go here fresh. Keen to see how he runs.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Star Spirit (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Star Spirit is a very interesting runner for Matty Smith who is coming over to NSW from Vic for her first start for the new stable. She’s been in the quinella on seven of her eleven starts, winning three of those. All three of those wins have been first up, from four first up runs and she has trialled very nicely for the new stable leading into this. Keen to see what she has to offer in tougher company now.

Canterbury R6 - Drinkwise (Bm72) (1100m)

Selections:
#4 - King Of Naples (BEST BET) - $4.00
#10 - King's Duty - $6.50
#2-  Deep Snow - $7.50
#7 - O'tycoon - $6.50

BEST BET - #4 - King Of Naples (BEST BET)
King of Naples has looked like a pretty awesome horse for John O’Shea who resumes here after a twenty week spell and should be strong fresh, winning one from two first up runs. He went back to the paddock a winner at the beginning of the year and before that had placed in all four prior runs to the win, racing strongly in each. He’s been flying in his two trials to lead into this and I think he will go very well here, it will take a great thing to beat him.

THE DANGER - #10 - King's Duty
In saying that about King Of Naples I think that King’s Duty is also a very very good thing going for Mark Minervini who debuted at the beginning of the year for a short three run prep and scored dominantly in two of those over the 1150m and 1200m. He’s had a couple months away from the races and looks to be trialling super for his return, his splits read well for this and I think with any luck he’s gonna be powering over them late.

VALUE BET - #2 - Deep Snow
Deep Snow looks like a very progressive horse who resumes here for just her fourth campaign and has been going outstandingly, with three wins, three seconds and a third from eleven career starts. She doesn’t take much to get going, placing a close second last time out when first up and has been trialling super for her return, coming close at Newcastle before moving very well to a recent trial win at Gosford. I think with Dyl Gib on, the decent draw and low weight he is going to be competitive in this race.

Best Promotions for Canterbury Racecourse

Promotions are traditionally the primary way for punters to create an edge over the bookies, as they can save your cash when your runner fails to win, in the instance of Unibet they often offer 2nd and 3rd money back in bonus bets for a selection of races on the midweek and Provincial racing days. Coupled with their generous odds I have to put them as the top bookie promotion wise at the moment for Australian racing.

If you are looking for the best promotions this week for Wednesday's racing I wouldn’t look past Unibet, often they offer odds boosts in addition to the money back promotions. Don’t forget to check your account as well for personal offers.

Promotions often change so make sure you sign up at unibet.com.au to see what promotions are applicable to you and you may even be surprised to find some promotions that weren’t mentioned here!
