Wednesday Racing Tips - Canterbury Racecourse 13/09/23

A huge metro meeting returns to Canterbury Park this Wednesday and we have seven high level races on the card with two maidens, one to kick the card off and then a bunch of BM72 races that will be run over mixed distances. There is over half a million dollars prize money available on the card and a bunch of really competitive looking fields with some high level runners and progressive horses who are looking towards Saturday racing. I am keen to get stuck into things so follow me below for another solid midweek card of racing at Canterbury Park!

Canterbury R3 - James Squire (Bm72) (1550m)

Selections:
#3 - Convincebility (NEXT BEST) - $3.90
#2 - Dimaggio - $5.50
#4 - Angelical - $11.00
#6 - River Snitty - $4.20

BEST BET - #3 - Convincebility (NEXT BEST)
Convincebility shapes up really well here for Kris Lees and I think he looks astutely placed to pick up another win. He has been absolutely flying since resuming from a decently long spell and after belting two not overly strong fields at regional tracks first and second up, both over the 1200m, he stepped out to a 1400m midweek Kensington race that was quite strong on paper where he was ridden very hot to find the lead and beat all but the smart winner in Strombus. That form reads very well for this, he’s hard fit fourth up and I think ridden a bit more conservatively he will be too strong for these.

THE DANGER - #2 - Dimaggio
Dimaggio is a horse I have plenty of time for for the Waugh stable and whilst it is tricky to grab him on the right day and he has been up for some time now, his last start suggests he is holding form well. He’s had quite a few runs this time in and has finished runner up in nearly half of them. Last time out he ran second at Kensington behind Amor Victorious and I really liked how strong he was through the line. He’s won or placed in his two starts at this track and the extra meters can only aid his cause now.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Angelical
Angelical looks like a very progressive horse for Paul Messara and a win here wouldn’t totally shock. He resumed off of a 27 week spell when needing the run at Warwick Farm in a very strong race that has already seen two subsequent winners behind the likes of Marquess and Ottilie before stepping out last time at Scone where he took a sit on the speed and motored clear of them for an impressive win in the last 100m. That took his record to five wins in just nine starts and he now comes into this third up, ready to peak and with a good gate.

Canterbury R5 - Tab (Bm72) (1200m)

Selections:
#4 - Sweet Baby Boom (BEST BET) - $4.20
#1 - Tashi - $3.10
#10 - Queen Of The Mile - $10.00
#8 - Greece - $5.00

BEST BET - #4 - Sweet Baby Boom (BEST BET)
I think that Sweet Baby Boom is going to keep improving for the Waterhouse / Bott giants and after not being seen at the races for over a year she returned at Warwick Farm where she cleared out half the field for a big return off such a long spell and then with the writing on the wall she stepped out at Kensington two weeks ago where she found the lead and looked beat in the straight but found plenty to record a huge win from on the pace there. That was only second up so will be approaching her peak now, gets in super light with Mclucas retaining the ride and I think she has what it takes to measure up here.

THE DANGER - #1 - Tashi
Tashi is an honest horse for the Snowden’s who rarely puts in a bad effort and looks well palced in this field. She had a few solid runs in Saturday grade this campaign at Rosehill with her best effort seeing her go close to winning when third to Petulant two runs back. last time out she dropped back to this Provincial level at this course when doing things tough out wide all run and still finding plenty to score very well when beating the likes of Zorocat and Little Baia. She doesn’t have to find much off the back of that to win again.

VALUE BET  - #10 - Queen Of The Mile
Queen Of The Mile looks a super progressive horse for Mick Freedman and has started her short career off with a bang already. She’s only had four career outtings but has already recorded two wins. After shedding the maiden tag last campaign she was sent away for a spell and resumed off of a 17 week spell at Wyong over the 1000m two weeks back where she thrashed a nothing field, but the way she did it and the time she did it in suggests she is in for a good prep and will have plenty more to offer here second up. Honest test, but think she is up to it.

Canterbury R6 - Star Turn @ Vinery Stud (Bm72) (1100m)

Selections:
#1 - Xpresso - $6.00
#2 - Way To The Stars - $6.50
#5 - Jedibeel - $8.00
#4 - Vindication (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $12.00

BEST BET - #1 - Xpresso
Xpresso looks set to find his peak here third up and whilst he strikes some honest competition I think he is the leading contender in this field. He’s had two runs back from a long twenty three week spell, the first of which coming at Rosehill in Saturday Grade where he ran very well, placing second behind Hard To Say before being given a month break from racing and putting in another good effort late last month at Rosehill when finishing just outside the placings. He’s been turned around quicker now, so the intent is there, gets a key claim to offset top weight and only runs well IMO.

THE DANGER - #2 - Way To The Stars
Way To The Stars is a bomb fresh horse for Matt Smith that resumes here. He’s been away from racing for twenty two weeks and now comes into this ready to fire off the back of two smart trials where he looks to really have found his stride already. He’s got two wins from five runs at this trip and has three wins and a close second placing in four first-up runs. With any luck from the draw we should see him feature in the finish.

VALUE BET - #5 - Jedibeel
Jedibeel draws wide here but hasn’t put in a single bad effort in his five career starts to date for Brad Widdup and I think that he can win again here. He has had two runs this time in from a seventeen week spell and after putting the writing on the wall first up with a close second placing he motored away at Wyong over this trip last time out for a soft win in good time. Third up now with good upside and I think if he can cross from the wide gate it should carry him in good steed.

Best Promotions for Canterbury Racecourse

Promotions are traditionally the primary way for punters to create an edge over the bookies, as they can save your cash when your runner fails to win, in the instance of Unibet they often offer 2nd and 3rd money back in bonus bets for a selection of races on the midweek and Provincial racing days. Coupled with their generous odds I have to put them as the top bookie promotion wise at the moment for Australian racing.

If you are looking for the best promotions this week for Wednesday's racing I wouldn’t look past Unibet, often they offer odds boosts in addition to the money back promotions. Don’t forget to check your account as well for personal offers.

Promotions often change so make sure you sign up at unibet.com.au to see what promotions are applicable to you and you may even be surprised to find some promotions that weren’t mentioned here!
