Wednesday Racing Tips - Canterbury Racecourse 26/07/23

It feels like we have been away from racing for some time at Canterbury racecourse and I am keen to be under the lights (minus the lights as we are racing in the day) once again for a metro NSW meeting that has shaped up to be quite a nice card. The card sees two maiden races to kick us off which feature some of the top NSW stables having put forward runners for the card, followed by three strong BM72 contests and two BM64 contests. I am looking forward to this card a lot and am keen to get stuck into things so follow me below as I highlight my best bets for racing at Canterbury Park racecourse this Wednesday.

Canterbury R3 - Ole Kirk @ Vinery Stud (Bm72) (1900m)

Selections:
#7 - Travelling Kate (BEST BET) - $7.50
#6 - Don Pedro - $6.00
#4 - Karmazone - $8.50
#9 - Decimus - $5.00

BEST BET - #7 - Travelling Kate (BEST BET)
I think that there are a couple key chances in this field but I am particularly keen on Brad Widdup’s Travelling Kate who looks set to peak third up and has been running times / clocking splits that are the best of this field. He sees the booking of Overmeire who has a 16% strike rate when combining with Widdup, they draw barrier three in a small field and map to be on the speed and he comes off the back of a close third placing over this track / trip three weeks ago where he was flying late and it should hold him in good stead for this assignment.

THE DANGER - #6 - Don Pedro
Don Pedro put in an awesome effort last time out when racing in BM78 grade in a much stronger contest than this over the 1800m at Randwick two weeks back. He jumped awkwardly there and set second, two wide without cover in the run and despite the tough run he just kept finding the line to hit the front at the 250m but the run told late when the winner was just a bit too strong in the final strides and he was claimed a late second. He only has to perform up to that last effort to be competitive here and I think he only runs well.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Karmazone
I am keen to give Karmazone another chance here off the back of his last effort that we really didn’t learn much about him from. He was four weeks between runs when racing last time out at Randwick in a Mile long Midway that saw him set nine lengths off the lead and look for a run in the straight but was crowded out and has to be given another chance off the back of that. His best is more than good enough for this and from the wide gate Schiller shouldn’t have too much trouble finding a spot in the small field.

Canterbury R4 - Chc Powering The Chase (Bm64) (1100m)

Selections:
#1 - Tanglewood (NEXT BEST) - $2.60
#10 - Pink Cashmere - $5.50
#3 - The Swooper - $8.00
#6 - Silvanito - $6.50

BEST BET - #1 - Tanglewood (NEXT BEST)
It’s going to take a pretty good thing to beat the Howlett trained Tanglewood who has come back in outstanding form for the stable in just his second preparation. He resumed off a twenty week spell for a soft kill at Taree over the 1000m where he didn’t beat much but did it well. He then backed that win up and showed his class when racing over the same distance at Grafton last time out where he stalked the speed and hit the lead to draw clear with 150m in hand. He’s hard fit now third up, more upside, Bullock stays on for the ride and I think it will take a good thing to run him down.

THE DANGER - #10 - Pink Cashmere
Pink Cashmere might just be the good thing that runs Tanglewood Down. The Maher and Eustace trained three year old is resuming for just his second prep at the races off the back of a twenty two week spell. He won on debut over the 1000m on the Synthetic at Ballarat and he had a trial two weeks ago at Randwick that saw him softly lead all the way to win, beating Kalino in the process who has since won a stronger race than this. I think he will be competitive here at the very least.

VALUE BET  - #3 - The Swooper
I am a big fan of the Hawkes boys trained The Swooper who looks a good shot in this race second up here. He resumed off an 18 week spell last time out at Sandown Hillside where he did too much early work and was eased out of the race late after giving a bold sight out front. That was over the 1200m first up and my guess is it was to get that racing feeling again and add fitness. He’s a second up winner, front running and back 200m now seems a good set up for him to find the front and be hard to run down from there.

Canterbury R6 - Tab (Bm72) (1250m)

Selections:
#1 - Rhythmic Pulse - $6.00
#11 - Orlabent - $6.50
#4 - Lancaster Bomber (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $11.00
#12 - Shines - $6.00

BEST BET - #1 - Rhythmic Pulse
It likely will take a good runner to take out the J Hull trained Rhythmic Impulse who looks astutely placed in this field off the back of his recent efforts. He raced here two back over the 1200m when finding the front and looking the winner before a flying Star Spirit nailed him on the line. He’s won again since then and so has King of Naples, who Rhythmic Impulse beat that day. He had a sharp run in this grade at Kensington last time out when Mitch dropped the whip at a crucial stage and has to be given another chance now. Keen on his prospects here.

THE DANGER - #11 - Orlabent
Not too surprised to see Kris Lees likely has his hands on another prospective star in Orlabent who has now won his past three races. Each of those wins has come on Soft, Good and Heavy which is no easy task and I think that, despite him taking a big step up in grade from the provincials, he is going to be strong here. The strongest of his wins came on the soft ground which is what we see tomorrow and with Gibbo on I imagine they will try similar tactics to have him just off the speed and be very strong late.

VALUE BET - #4 - Lancaster Bomber (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Tread with caution when betting on Lancaster Bomber as I simply have a soft spot for this horse in my heart. He landed me a win at Rosehill earlier this year when I was able to get him at double figure odds. The Litt trained horse ran in a Randwick Midway last time out where he ran on very well to finish third behind Diamond Diesel. He likes to mix his form a bit but if he shows up how he raced last time in Saturday company he can speck at odds here.

Best Promotions for Canterbury Racecourse

Promotions are traditionally the primary way for punters to create an edge over the bookies, as they can save your cash when your runner fails to win, in the instance of Unibet they often offer 2nd and 3rd money back in bonus bets for a selection of races on the midweek and Provincial racing days. Coupled with their generous odds I have to put them as the top bookie promotion wise at the moment for Australian racing.

If you are looking for the best promotions this week for Wednesday's racing I wouldn’t look past Unibet, often they offer odds boosts in addition to the money back promotions. Don’t forget to check your account as well for personal offers.

Promotions often change so make sure you sign up at unibet.com.au to see what promotions are applicable to you and you may even be surprised to find some promotions that weren’t mentioned here!
