Wednesday Racing Tips - Caulfield Racecourse 13/03/24

Racing comes back to Caulfield racecourse this Wednesday for a belter midweek card as we have some very high level contests ahead of us with some of the more progressive animals in VIC who are looking toward big Autumn preps and some that come back to this level from Saturday grade racing. I have run  through the card and picked out my best betting spots so follow me below!

BEST BET - #2 - Ameena (BEST BET)
Hard to knock Ameena for Anthony and Sam Freedman after the way that he made his debut to racing at Bendigo last time out. He stepped out untrialled as an odds on favourite under Daniel Moor and set sixth and three wide in the run before clicking up hard in the straight to hit the lead at the 200m and easily draw clear of the field. He looked to have plenty more in hand then and gets in light again here with Mark Zahra aboard now he should be tough to beat again.

THE DANGER - 12 - Rock Pop 
Market isn’t really specking much else other than the debutant for the McEvoy’s in Rock Pop who looks to be a very nice horse. He’s a big animal that comes here off just the one public trial but gee he looked to move well in his stride there when running a very fast 800m Terang trial two weeks ago. Looks to be a very nice Filly and the stable have been flying with their juveniles.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Flying Straz
Flying Straz made his debut for Peter Moody and Kathy Coleman a couple weeks back at Morphettville when showing a bunch of talent then and I think he shapes up well off the back of that effort. He set just off the front runners then when peeling wide in the straight and taking over at the 200m, looking the winner before being just overrun late by the exacta then. He will be sharper and fitter for that effort and gets a better set up this time in.

BEST BET - #6 - Links
I think this is a decent spot for Links to get his second win aboard at his seventh career start for Ciaron Maher here. He’s always promised to be quite a good horse and came back to racing off of a six week let up at Sandown Hillside when racing over the 1200m a couple weeks ago and chasing hard throughout the entire run to just miss when second to a smart horse. He gets turned around quicker for this assignment, I think there’s real intent from the stable and shapes up well here.

THE DANGER - #1 - Intrepid Eagle
Market has Intrepid Eagle on top as at the time of writing this for the McEvoy’s and I can understand why to an extent. He rates the highest in this field but gets a 3kg claim from Kennedy to offset the big weight and should prove competitive here having trialled since the last time he stepped out at this course when finishing down the track at the beginning of last month. The trial effort was strong, he’s got a bit of class about him and a win wouldn’t shock at all.

VALUE BET  - #2 - In Her Stride (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
In Her Stride gets a very good set up resuming to racing here off of a 27 week spell and I think can take this out. She maps to get right up on the speed from a midfield draw and should be strong from there. She has a very good first up record with two wins and two runner up placings in six first up runs, gets in very light here with the claim from Clarke and she might just get ahead of them early and be too hard to catch.

BEST BET - #1 - Epic Centre (NEXT BEST)
Epic Centre had a poor start to the campaign for the Douglas camp and was sent away for a 5 week break before coming back to racing last time out just under two weeks ago at The Valley and really clicking up to win very well there when challenged in the straight he showed so much fight to come back and win very well. He carried an extra 5kgs on the runner up there who looks a class animal himself and now gets turned around quicker here with less weight and Mott aboard, he can go on with it now.

THE DANGER - #7 - Flying On A Limb 
Flying On A Limb has to shape up as one of the leading chances here after the way that he has kicked his career off for the Mcdonald camp with three wins in seven runs and all three came last campaign before producing an end of prep effort and being sent away for a spell. He now comes back to racing from a 29 week break, goes very well fresh and this is within reach first up. 

VALUE BET - #8 - Plus Fours
I feel like at one point Plus Fours promised to be a Stakes animal for Phillip Stokes and I don’t think he has quite lived up to that but he has been running very well this time in. He pulled up lame last time out at Flemington but prior to then blitzed a field at Pakenham and came very close to winning at this track with two runner up efforts in the two starts prior. He can win again here hard fit, from a good gate and light with Lane aboard.

Avdulla has found great form this year with a near 50% place rate and near 20% strike rate. He has been super consistent in NSW and that has been recognised to a large extent by the bookings that he has been getting. He gets a top selection of rides for some prominent stables such as James Cummings and Chris Waller and I think he is a top shot to pick up at least one win on Wednesday at Caulfield.

Whilst it is scary to tip in some of the bigger field races I think that with it being early in the season and a lot of runners being on resumption that there are some clear top picks in each field and as such I have combined my best runners of the day into a place multi. Whilst it might not be the same level of value we generally get I think that it is a worthwhile bet and has a good chance of coming in.
