Wednesday Racing Tips - Caulfield Racecourse 17/04/24

Racing comes back to Caulfield racecourse for what looks like a very strong midweek meeting with soem sharp debutantes and others coming back from provincial racing. I have run through and picked out my best betting spots across the card so follow me below as I run through the entire card!

BEST BET - #6 - Here The Crowd (NEXT BEST) 
Ciaron Maher looks to dominate the first few lines of betting in this race and whilst his other runner pulled up lame on debut I am keen to be in the corner of Here The Crowd who I feel should be progressing nicely into this. He debuted in a strong maiden at Sandown Lakeside where he hit the lead at the top of the straight and looked the winner before just being claimed late in the piece by a sharp horse in Icarus. Hefel retains the ride, he will be improved for this and only needs to run up to the last start effort to be competitive here.

THE DANGER - #7 - Lunarshot
Lunarshot pulled up lame on debut for Ciaron Maher and so I think it is only reasonable to give her another chance here. That was some 23 weeks ago and she has been given plenty of time to be worked along in the paddock which seems to have done her well based on how she jumped out the other week. I think Zahra aboard only aids her chances and she will be prominent here.

VALUE BET - #9 - Valetudo
A Waller import making his debut at the midweeks is always dangerous and this guy comes over from England where he has shown some talent overseas, particularly with a very game placing over this trip just before being brought over to Aus. He’s placed second and third in two Flemington Jumpouts and appears to have been moving very nicely in each of them. I reckon he goes well here on debut and is worth watching what the market does.

BEST BET - #4 - Inexorable (BEST BET)
Inexorable gets another chance for me here after continuing to be so honest in defeat with four consecutive placings this time in and I think he is going to be a lot more suited getting back on top of the ground here after running in the mud at Geelong. Lane sticks, the runner up placing prior was in a $200k race and I think that’s all she wrote to be honest.

THE DANGER - #9 - Mohnar 
Mohnar should be approaching her peak third up from a spell now and I think that her form around some sharp horses last prep also reads well for this. She last beat home Linas Reel at Cranbourne when not shirking from her task out wide and finishing very well despite the tough run. The trip is a query for her but she’s run very well third up in the past and I think that she should be tuned up for this.

VALUE BET  - #5 - Linas Reel
Linas Reel was first up off of a 21 week break from racing when chasing home Mohnar last time out at Cranbourne for just his third career start where he didn’t get much luck, posted deep and never really given breathing room to get into his task in what was an effort I am happy to forgive. Nolen sticks, he showed plenty of talent last prep and I am keen to watch what he does with a bit more luck.

BEST BET - #6 - Milliondollarmumma (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)  
Milliondollarmumma for me in a very interesting sprint race but I think this girl just goes so well with fresh legs and she has to be respected coming here off of a 15 week break. She has looked nice in two Flemington jumpouts, coming seventh and third and now gets Zahra aboard, they map to lob straight up front from gate three and I think she will be doing some of her best work here.

THE DANGER - #8 - Bonnie Amore 
If gate one doesn’t pose any issues then Bonnie Amore should be strong here for the Eurell camp. He’s had a month between runs since stepping out at this course and running very well in some strong company when coming home into third place sharply. Kah aboard, draws well and without any genuine excuses she can take this out.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Celestial Storm 
Always been a fan of the Griffiths / De Kock trained Celestial Storm and on ratings alone, he’s the one they will have to beat here. He’s already got three wins in seven starts this time in and comes out of a $200k race at The Valley where he just couldn’t get any luck from behind the speed. He now get Jye back on board which is a big plus and I think he can hit back hard in a much softer race than that was.

Avdulla has found great form this year with a near 50% place rate and near 20% strike rate. He has been super consistent in NSW and that has been recognised to a large extent by the bookings that he has been getting. He gets a top selection of rides for some prominent stables such as James Cummings and Chris Waller and I think he is a top shot to pick up at least one win on Wednesday at Caulfield.

Whilst it is scary to tip in some of the bigger field races I think that with it being early in the season and a lot of runners being on resumption that there are some clear top picks in each field and as such I have combined my best runners of the day into a place multi. Whilst it might not be the same level of value we generally get I think that it is a worthwhile bet and has a good chance of coming in.
