Wednesday Racing Tips - Doomben Racecourse 01/02/23

Doomben Racecourse 20/05/23
Doomben Racecourse 01/02/23

The midweeks continue at Doomben to end off what has been an extremely successful Queensland Summer Carnival and there is a stacked eight race card with $310,000 of prize across the card, with the features of the day being the three maiden races. Most of the races are at sprint distance, the track is set to be a good 4 and the rail is out +10m. It should make for an exciting race day.

Doomben R2 - CASCADE HANDICAP (C5) (1660m)

Selections:
#2 - Ghostwriter (BEST BET) - $1.60
#3 - Goldeel - $5.50
#5 - He Is - $9.00
#4 - Sheppey - $7.50

BEST BET - #2 - Ghostwriter (BEST BET)
Ghostwriter’s form reads well going into this, having placed at three of her four outings this prep and picking up a win second up at Ipswich. She was second on the 11th of jan at this track as a short priced favourite after doing it a bit tough, leading but wide and was just too keen there, being run down late. He beat Goldeel there who looks the main danger in this and draws softly to fend him off again and go one better on this field.

NEXT BEST  - #3 - Goldeel
Goldeel has been racing in better company than this for the most part, at last run was at this track over similar distance when running too hard at the beginning, leading and looking good but being headed over to finish 5th. The time wasn’t bad though and before then raced here as well when second of seven after sitting box and having every chance. Has the runs on board now, meets a beatable field and should be hard fit. I think this is make or break now.

VALUE BET  - #5 - He Is
I think He Is is better than it suggests on paper. Last time out at this track he was 4th in the field over this distance to some sharper company than this and they ran good times in that race, it reads well here. That was first up after a little break from the races and before then came 2nd at Ipswich over a similar distance range. I think he should be fit now and with the runs on board could cause some trouble with this field.

Doomben R4 - RACECOURSE VILLAGE MAIDEN HANDICAP (1350m)

Selections:
#7 - Hearsay (NEXT BEST) - $4.20
#9 - Iron Grace - $4.80
#4 - Bright Tiara - $6.50
#5 - Chayse'n' The King - $8.00

BEST BET - #7 - Hearsay (NEXT BEST)
I think that Hearsay is a good horse who is going through the motions and will soon get it right. He placed second at Sunshine Coast when first up and ran some great closing splits despite being held up in running before moving onto this track when running a total forgive run, where nothing went right for him and he still did it in good time. He maps to sit in a much handier spot just behind the speed here and I think with Huxtable taking over the ride he can give him a cushy run, if he gets that run he will have something on these.

THE DANGER - #9 - Iron Grace
I think that Iron Grace might get just a touch too far back here but if he doesn’t he will be a serious threat. He got too far back in the field when first up at the Gold Coast a few weeks ago but still ran a pretty decent time and came on in the straight even if not ending up anywhere. If he gets a bit more luck in running and is steered nearer to the speed which he gets the draw to do then all he needs is some clear running in the last 200m and should be in the finish.

VALUE BET  - #5 - Chayse'n' The King
Chayse’n’ The King resumed from a long spell over this track/distance on the good going three weeks ago and was great on debut. He was slowly away there but ran home with a hot turn of foot and looks to be pretty smart in running with plenty of room for improvement. There’s already been one new winner emerge from that race and I could see him being the second.

Doomben R7 - SOUTHS SPORTS CLUB (BM65) (1200m)

Selections:
#10 - Huss On First - $1.85
#5 - Northuldra - $8.50
#6 - Argyle Pink (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $7.50
#2 - Thunder Mania - $18.00

BEST BET - #10 - Huss On First
I liked what I saw with Huss On First last prep and he resumes on Wednesday off a six month spell. He made his debut at this track last July, winning first up in a strong debut, too strong for that field late. He got too far back in the run after that and could never really come on but still ran good late splits and scraped into 4th of twelve. He’s had two trials to lead him back into this and the last was a soft win at this track, looking to have something in hand. He maps to not get too far back and if he can find a good spot on the straight he looks to be too strong for them late.

THE DANGER - #5 - Northuldra
All you can do is win and that is exactly what Northuldra has been doing, the Wilson-Taylor trained 4-year-old has been excellent this prep with three consecutive wins as a short favourite in each before stepping up to BM70 level last run at Ipswich when running a great time and shifting in at the 200m to try run down an in form The Billionaire but being unable to reel him in. He is a top chance to go over again and make it 4 wins in 5 runs.

VALUE BET - #6 - Argyle Pink (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
The Tony Gollan runner resumes here today and whilst he draws out wide I think he must be respected here. He has had one soft trial win at this track to prepare him for this and last prep he picked up a third placing here before going onto his final run of the prep here when he was wide throughout and was still quite game in defeat in a stronger test than this (BM75 grade). There have been 5 subsequent winners from that race and the form reads well. Interested to see what happens first up but can’t ask for much more than James Orman aboard and think this horse is honest.

Jockey Of The Day – James Orman

Jimmy Orman, the wizard of the North returns to Doomben for the midweeks and he loves this track. He has a 15% win rate here and knows the track well with over 200 rides here in the last 12 months. He gets another big stack of rides for this Wednesday at Doomben and I expect him to ride a few winners.

Multi Tips For Doomben Racecourse

I have stuck to a similar strategy for my multi at Doomben as the Canterbury multi as it is quite a tricky track and most of the runners are not short priced favourites which means we can still get a fair bit of value by combining three runners in a place multi. I have done so with my top selections of the day, whilst also considering the good draws and which jockey’s are aboard. Follow my multi below for a good value bet to track over race day!

Best Promotions for Doomben Racecourse

Promotions are traditionally the primary way for punters to create an edge over the bookies, as they can save your cash when your runner fails to win, in the instance of Unibet they often offer 2nd and 3rd money back in bonus bets for a selection of races on the midweek and Provincial racing days. Coupled with their generous odds I have to put them as the top bookie promotion wise at the moment for Australian racing.

If you are looking for the best promotions this week for Wednesday's racing I wouldn’t look past Unibet, often they offer odds boosts in addition to the money back promotions. Don’t forget to check your account as well for personal offers.

Promotions often change so make sure you sign up at unibet.com.au to see what promotions are applicable to you and you may even be surprised to find some promotions that weren’t mentioned here!
