Wednesday Racing Tips - Doomben Racecourse 03/04/24

A good support card up North comes back to Doomben with ten races at one of Queensland’s premier Wednesday racing tracks and I have run through the card and picked out my best betting spots. There seems to be some very progressive horses stepping out at the meeting so watch for them in my tips below!

BEST BET - #1 - Transatlantic (BEST BET)
Transatlantic looks like quite a sharp horse for Tony Gollan and I have backed him a few times in his short career so far but he is proving to be very progressive thus far and I think he’s as good as a sure fire bet to kick things off at Doomben tomorrow. He’s coming off a very sharp Eagle Farm win where he led them out over the 1500m and drew away dominantly in the straight and now should be even stronger here, go well.

THE DANGER - #11 - Showdra
Showdra seems like the only real threat to Transatlantic and can make an impression here for Lee Freedman. He resumed off of a 15 week spell in the same race that Transatlantic won a couple weeks ago when having ot be restrained early as he jumped too keen but recovered throughout the run before giving a decent sight in the straight to run home fourth. He shapes up very well off the back of that run, will have plenty of upside coming into this and can hit hard here.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Red Defcon
Red Defcon resumed off of a 12 week spell at the Gold Coast and should be pretty strong here second up off the back of how he ran then. He jumped out in a very strong half a million dollar race where he ran on well into third place without threatening the winners and whilst he does look good off the back of that effort, just the one win in twelve runs makes it hard to take him here.

BEST BET - #1 - About To Explode (NEXT BEST)
The combination of Jimmy Orman and Tony Gollan is always positive and I think that we are largely seeing this price due to the lack of runs that most of these have on board. He debuted at the beginning of last month at this course when having a shaky start but steadying and shifting out late in a bit of a green effort but class saw him run home into second well there. There’s been two winners out of that race and I think with natural improvement and sharper manners he would have belted those so go well here.

THE DANGER - #12 - Taltarni Fields
Taltarni Fields resumes off of a 33 week spell for Kelly Schweida and the market is giving her plenty of respect off the back of her lone career start back in August last year where she displayed plenty of talent to hit the front at the 200m and was then inconvenienced in the straight when being overrun late. That was a pretty talented maiden with six subsequent winners from that race and his trial win was absolutely belting and I think he is obviously the one to get past here.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Adranos
Adranos is another Gollan trained runner who should be strong here off the back of his debut at the beginning of last month at this course where he didn’t have a very good start but improved throughout the run and really balanced up in the straight to hit the line hard and finish third in the same race that About To Explode finished runner up. Should be sharper off the back of that with natural improvement.

BEST BET - #3 - Hurts So Good
Hurts So Good has to rate highly here off the back of the run that he had when returning to racing off of a 20 week break and having his first start since coming over to Tony Gollan. He resumed at this course when where he had a torrid run, riddled with problems when held up and forced wide and was eased near the turn but he was only able to hold second place there. He should retain a stack of improvement off of that run and I expect an element of strength from him here.

THE DANGER - #4 - Lubrication
Lubrication rates as one of the stronger horses in this race but I think that his win record scares me just a bit too much to have something on here. He has just the one win from ten runs but comes back here off the back of two sharp trials and with the benefit of a very nice trial win the other week at Daegon. He now maps to have a nice run behind a genuine speed and I think he rates highly here.

VALUE BET - #11 - Polarising (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
Polarising has been very strong for the O’Dea and Hoystead camp since returning to racing off of a 23 week break and I think should once again be very strong despite stepping up to a hard contest. He won in the mud at Sunshine Coast first up before stepping out at Grafton where he led along the rails and gave a good kick but just couldn’t catch the winner. Third up now and hard fit he should once again be prominent here.

For Doomben it is crucial to take into account the biases on the track and focus on horses that are deeper into their preps and also to consider their suitability to the conditions.
