Wednesday Racing Tips - Doomben Racecourse 12/04/23

Midweek racing returns to Doomben for an exciting nine race metro card and there’s a bunch of good sprints on the card and just the lone staying race which should make for some great racing. There’s a total of just under $400,000 prize money available on the card, the track is rated to be a soft 5 and the rail is in true position. Follow me as I outline my best betting spots of the card below!

BEST BET - #2 - Dark Chill (NEXT BEST)
I think the short quote on Dark Chill is justified. The David Vandyke trained three year old has had just the two runs to start his career both at this track and he made sound improvements between his first up run and second up run where he showed a nice change up of speed in his last outing but couldn’t get one over the smart winner in Old Song. Think he will be at just about peak now out to 1600m third up and find a beatable field. Top chance.

THE DANGER - #3 -Loose Unit
The Stuart Kendrick trained three year old Loose Unit comes into this after placing in five consecutive outings to the races but just can’t seem to win. However, in his last two he really hasn’t had the best of luck being checked, hampering at the start and just generally being bumped around throughout. Top Apprentice Angela Jones jumps on, field isn’t too big and she should be able to lob into a good speed just behind the speed. Top chance to break maiden.

VALUE BET  - #6 - Another Dime
Another Dime comes into this second up and in my opinion is over the odds here. She resumed off of a spell of three months at Ballina just shy of two weeks ago and was very from disgraced there when coming on strongly to end up fourth. I like the way she found the line there and the second up record is very good. I think she can be in the placings here at big odds.

BEST BET - #8 - Eye Pea Oh - (NEXT BEST)
Eye Pea Oh looks a very useful type, at her last run she was ever so brave in defeat when crossing from a wide gate and doing a lot of early work to lead but couldn’t hold on when steadily fading into 6th, that was three weeks ago over the 1200m so don’t mind him back in distance based on his run style and how he maps he should run a cracker. Keen on him.

THE DANGER - #10 - Richon 
Richon got his career off to a good start when scoring at Gosford over this distance at his debut at the races and then coming a close second placing at Canterbury before being sent back to the paddock for a 15 week spell. He has had just the one trial at Rosehill to lead him back into this where he looked to absolutely truck in the run, winning that trial nicely. This all suggests he will be right to fire first up and races well with fresh legs. Must respect the market on him, dangerous.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Rising 
Rising looks like an up and coming horse for the Cavonough stable who is looking to make it three in a row after scoring dominantly on the Ballarat synthetic before being sent to the paddock for a long 20 week spell and switching camps. He resumed in style three weeks ago when he led and shifted out to the middle of the track with a strong kick to keep them safely at bay. Gets a crack in town now but he looks up to the task and if he can sit on the speed which he maps to do he will be dangerous.

BEST BET - #4 - Holiday Dreams 
Holiday Dreams is a promising prospect for Rob Heathcote who looked brilliant last time out at the Sunny Coast and clocked some really good splits when just missing to what looks like a super progressive horse in He knows. I liked the way he found the line there and he has plenty of early speed to cross and get into a handy position on the speed in this small field. Top chance to go one better tomorrow.

THE DANGER - #9 - Third Time Round
Third Time Round looks very well placed to make it two in a row for Tony Gollan. The four year old raced over the 1350m three weeks ago at Ipswich where he jumped awkwardly but recovered from that, hit the lead and kept the field safely at bay there to score in dominant fashion. He didn’t beat much there but the time reads well for this and the stable is flying, must respect.

VALUE BET - #1 - Harlequin Field (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
Matty Dunn puts forward Harlequin Field tomorrow in this race and I think he can run a cracker race at speck odds here off the back of a solid fourth placing at this track in tough company where he didn’t have any luck. He did it tough out wide before being crowded on the straight, when he finally got clear air he powered home to pass a few and end up fourth. I think from the soft draw he should land in a much cosier spot and have something for them late. Big watch.
