Wednesday Racing Tips - Doomben Racecourse 21/06/23

Nine races set to be run at Doomben tomorrow for a great midweek meeting with four maiden races to kick the card off and be contested for a share of $40k each before moving onto mixed grade racing with the highest being a BM68 in race eight over the 1200m. I think we should see some very competitive and exciting races and I love to see that the majority of it is over sprint distance. Follow me below as I outline my best betting spots of the card.

#4 - Star Of Robiglen - $13.00 

BEST BET - #5 - Transatlantic (BEST BET)
Transatlantic made his racing debut at this course a fortnight ago over the 1200m and was very good there, overcoming a wide and deep run to motor home into the placings. If she had a bit more luck there I think we would have seen her score easily. Stays at the course now and natural improvement should carry her well in this, not any more depth here, Orman retains the ride and I see her only going well.

THE DANGER - #3 - Exposition
If any horse is going to pose a threat to Transatlantic I think it will be the Chris Waller trained Exposition who comes who resumed off of a 14 week spell at this track three weeks ago when setting two wide and well back in the run and running on strongly without threatening there. He should have plenty of upside off the back of that run second up here and sticking at the track and I think he will pose a serious threat.

VALUE BET  - #7 - Black Minto
I think that Black Minto can hit back hard here for Les Kelly after a luckless last run at Eagle Farm when caught wide and trying to improve in the run but eventually had to succumb to staying deep and wide and used up all his energy there in a tough run where he was a huge price and ran accordingly. He’s drawn to receive every chance in a much smaller and less strong field and I think he can motor into the placings here.

BEST BET - #5 - Cairdeas - (NEXT BEST)
II am confident that Cairdeas is going to go close here second up off a solid break. He went back to the stables a winner last prep before coming back to racing off a twenty three week spell at the Sunshine Coast where he found the rail from a wide gate and clocked the best closing splits of the race and some of the best of the meeting to motor home into second place in a brave effort. He is fitter, draws a much better gate here and I think that it’s going to take a good thing to beat him.

THE DANGER - #2 - Kronenbourg 
Kronenbourg looks like the other main chance in this field for Tony Gollan. He crossed from a wide gate last time out at the Sunshine Coast a couple weeks ago to continue to improve throughout the run but still hung out wide and that run just told late when he was swamped late in the piece. He draws a low gate here and I expect them to find a bit of cover just behind the speed, in which case Orman should have him more than right to come on at the end.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Savileo 
Savileo should be very honest for Jack Bruce in this field third up now and having been patiently given time between his two runs in this time in which he has improved between runs and I think will have sharp upside here third up. He sat four lengths back on the rail last time out at Sunshine Coast racecourse and when he looked to start his run he was just held up at a crucial time and got clear air too late to just battle into midfield. He gets a nice fitness benefit off that run and will be hard fit, is a third up winner and should go well here.

BEST BET - #1 - Drive A Deel 
Drive A Deel is a track specialist for Rob Heathcoate who takes a huge step down in competition for this assignment after racing in the listed Spear Chief Handicap at Eagle Farm a fortnight ago where ran well in the early stages but worked too hard to finish near the back of a big and strong field. Before then he won The Star at this track which is clearly much stronger competition than this and overall he has four wins and one close second placing at this track. Thornton jumps on for the booking and with any luck he should take this out.

THE DANGER - #2 - Sur La Mer 
Haven’t seen too much from Sur La Mer this preparation after having an exciting four year old and three year old season for Chris Waller but he has been contesting far stronger races than this and should look strong in this field. He raced in The Star that Drive A Deel won last time out and got way out of his ground there but still found the line well late in the piece when finishing down the track. Before then he was never headed in the Group three Dark Jewel Classic at Scone but was honest in defeat, again powering from the back of the field to end up midfield there. He should be able to settle much closer here and is clearly the class horse of the field. Go well.

VALUE BET - #11 - Kermantic (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
No knock on the Dunn camp’s Kermantic who is stepping up to this grade off the back of two smart dominant BM58 wins where the first came at Port Macquaire where he raced wide on the speed and wore down the leader to storm over him late and salute with something in hand. He then went to Murwillumbah where he raced keenly to find the front and had lengths on them there to motor away again. He gets an honest contest here but I expect he can be prominent once again.
