Wednesday Racing Tips - Eagle Farm Racecourse 22/02/23

Racing comes to Eagle Farm for a midweek meeting and to close off what has been an Awesome summer of racing up North in Queensland. The meeting features a few runners who are nearing the end of their preps and a bunch of horses who look to be gearing up for big Spring preps and as such it should make for an exciting set of races. There is $310,000 prize available on the card, the rail is out +10m and the track is expected to be a good 4.

BEST BET - #3 - Rubaahy (BEST BET) 
I think that Rubaahy is a super progressive horse who, if she lives up to her first up run, should have something on these for sure. She made her Debut at the races at Toowoomba at the beginning of the month as a short priced favourite and ran past expectations, thrashing the field over this distance. The time wasn’t crazy flash but it was a slow run day and she ran fast for the day. Montana Savva sticks and she draws to find the front easily and give a big sight up top.

THE DANGER - #4 - Within Reason 
I think that on the time alone at her last outing Within Reason has to be respected in this field. She debuted at the races mid December at this track in slightly stronger company at this distance and was good on debut, after sitting wide all run she still has a solid kick to run into fourth. She raced a bit greenly then and so the 10 week let up makes sense to re-ready her for the races, can hit back hard now.

VALUE BET  - #7 - Soo Sweet 
Soo Sweet is on debut here for Toby and Trent Edmonds who are absolutely flying this year with the juveniles, with a near 25% strike rate and 75% place rate this year and they look to have another good thing with Soo Sweet who get Mallyon on board off the back of two super soft trials where she absolutely trucked in the run for a win in the most recent one and a win in the one prior. She looks ready to fire first up.

BEST BET - #4 - Flying Joy (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Flying Joy comes into this second up from a short let up and fifth up in her prep overall. She has been excellent in running this prep with 2 wins and 2 placings in 5 runs. Her most recent run she was unplaced but I think can be forgiven as she was done no favours there and really not given the opportunity to get into it. She maps to be much closer in the run this time out and gets Samantha Collet on board. I think they are the top chance to take this out.

THE DANGER - #3 - Merimee 
Merimee is the clear danger in this race. The Waller trained mare comes into this third up and has been patiently given time between her runs to date with the last being a Class 5 at Doomben at the end of January where she made great improvement from her first up run, motoring home to end up third after not being given much chance in the run. She will improve again into this, being fitter and better for the experience and is the obvious danger for this.

VALUE BET  - #7 - Heleva Deel
Brodie Loy jumps aboard Heleva Deel who has not run a bad race this prep and has only improved up until this point, finally putting the nail in the coffin last run with a tough, gritty win at Ipswich where she kept them at bay and now steps up to Metro racing. Off the back of last run I think if they can adjust the tactics a bit and ride her a bit quieter initially and have her run hard late she can take this out.

BEST BET - #4 - Born A Warrior (NEXT BEST)
Sticking with Born A warrior here who I think is genuinely that good off the back of her first up win at this track over this distance when unwanted in the market. He sat back in the field there and gradually improved up until the 200m where he shifted out, got a gap and won easily with plenty in hand. I think he is a super progressive horse, Jimmy Orman retains the ride and Born A Warrior maps to do the same again.

THE DANGER - #9 - Reliable Ruby 
Reliable Ruby is a Chris Munce runner who resumed at the races at the beginning of the month at this track over the 1000m and she looks to make big improvements coming into this second up. She settled midfield there before shifting out at the 200m and running home strongly to just miss into second placing. She will only be better and fitter off that and I think she is a top chance to go one better now.

VALUE BET - #12 - Veandechance
Veandechance is a Dunn trained runner who resumes from a 15 week break from the races under Brodie Loy tomorrow at Eagle farm. His last run before a spell was an impressive run at Dooomben over the 1350m where he did everything but win to land second in a small field but he showed plenty of talent through the prep. Just the one soft trial at Murwillumbah to ready him for this but that could be enough and meets a beatable field here first up.
