Wednesday Racing Tips - Geelong Racecourse 25/10/23

Racing returns to Geelong this Friday for what looks like a very solid nine race meeting as we have the bet365 Geelong Cup as our $500k feature of the day and it is supported by the 2200m Roderick Insurance Brokers 3YO Geelong Classic, another listed race as well as a bunch of other competitive races. I am keen to get stuck into things so follow me below as I outline my best bets of the day at Geelong racecourse!

BEST BET - #3 - Boldinho (BEST BET) 
Boldinho looks very well placed to pick up another win here for the Maher and Eustace stable after dominating two runs back at Sandown before taking on a tough task last time out in the Flemington straight where he finished a bit behind Electric Impulse. I think he is more suited around a turn and now gets the blinkers back on and Mark Zahra jumps on for the ride. I think he wins this and wins well.

THE DANGER - #9 - Jonny Da Wolf
Lindsay Gough is one of the top trainers at this course so I am respecting the market push for Jonny Da Wolf here. He’s had two trials to set him up for start one and both have been powerful efforts at Doomben. The latest of which saw him move with real purpose before clicking up in the straight and thundering home for a soft trial win where he put a space on them. Gets Cartwright on and gets in light, I expect him to be competitive here.

VALUE BET  - #8 - Mr Mojo Risin
If you have been following my racing tips for some time you would know I am a big fan of Mr Mojo Risin and I think he definitely has what it takes to be competitive here. He came back to racing over the 1200m at Kyneton a few weeks ago where he was posted deep and wide in the run and despite not being a threat he found the line very nicely in defeat. He’ll be much fitter now and goes out in trip which are both positive, just needs to not get buried too far back to be competitive here

BEST BET - #3 - Dulcet
Dulcet should be pretty tough to beat here under Chris Waller and I think is ready for the step out in trip and has been targeted for this race. He resumed at Sale in a maiden race over the 1740m where he was very deep in the run and didn’t look like much of a threat but the way he shifted out wide before powering home to win, yes he may not have beat much, but the way he did it there was very impressive and this lot doesn’t look overly difficult. Not sure I can have him at the price though.

THE DANGER - #1 - Waverley (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
I have always been a fan of this horse and think that he has come back to racing in great order. He last stepped out in the Gloaming at Randwick where he was too deep in the run to be a winning threat but he was very strong through the line and clocked some of the better late splits of the day. I think he is going to relish getting out to this trip now and can shed his maiden tag in this race.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Kosgei
Kosgei needs to improve in this race but I am happy to not knock him just yet. He’s had three runs this prep and kicked things off in very good fashion before taking a big step up in competition and going to the Super Impose at Flemington where he was deep in the run and looked to click up when improving but just didn’t have anything for them late. I suspect there were a couple issues there and am happy to give him another look here.

BEST BET - #7 - Virtuous Circle (NEXT BEST)
Virtuous Circle looks like he’s going to be awfully tough to beat in this year’s edition of the Geelong Cup. He comes out of the Bart Cummings where he definitely should have finished closer than he did, not being able to squeeze through a wall late when he was powering to the line. He’s got his Melbourne Cup start locked in already but the way he has been going I think he is more than ready to take this out on his way there.

THE DANGER - #13 - First Immortal 
There is no denying that First Immortal should have won the Bart Cummings all things being equal and he now gets another honest chance to take out a listed race on his way to the Melbourne Cup. He endured a seriously tough run last time out at Flemington to just peak in the final 70m where the winner had all the favours and he was overrun late. His win prior was sharp and he doesn’t look to be slowing down now.

VALUE BET - #3 - King Frankel
King Frankel, is he back? The market isn’t so sure yet and I am not either but I am willing to give him another look here. He hasn’t been his four year old self this time in but did start to improve last time out where he came off a three week break from the Kingston Town Stakes at Randwick and stepped out in the Queensland Cup where he showed big improvement to overcome some shuffling and bumping around in the run and still find the line very well in defeat when third there to some smart horses. I expect him to improve into this and this race is not as strong as that was.
