Wednesday Racing Tips - Hawkesbury Racecourse 05/04/23

Midweek racing returns to the Hawkesbury and we have a stacked eight race card with just under $400,000 worth of prize money available across the card and a bunch of handy looking races. There’s only the one maiden race on the card which I actually like to see for a change and there’s some pretty high caliber racing, with the feature of the day being the CLARENDON TAVERN (BM88), run over 1400m in race 3. The track is rated a heavy 9 but I think we could see it upgraded and the rail is out +5m. Follow me below as I outline the card.

Hawkesbury R2 - RICHMOND CLUB MAIDEN HANDICAP (1600m)

Selections:
#2 - Beautiful Heart (BEST BET)- $3.50
#8 - Marelle - $7.00
#1 - Whatadilemma  - $9.00
#7 - Genetic Freak - $8.50

BEST BET - #2 - Beautiful Heart (BEST BET)
Beautiful Heart looks very well placed to go one better this time in after resuming to the races from a long twenty eight week spell at Kembla Grange two weeks ago where Jeff Penza took the ride and I really like how this horse just kept finding the line to only go down late second to Fall For Cindy, who had the run of the race. He kicked the race off a bit shakily, ending up quite wide but the blinkers go on now, he looks a blinkers horse and from barrier one he should get all the favours. Top chance.

THE DANGER - #8 - Marelle
I like Marelle third up into this off the back of a run here two weeks ago over the 1500m where she did look to just plug along in the run but when asked for effort she took up the running, albeit a bit to late in the piece but passed a few and clocked in some late splits that read very well for this. James Mcdonlad jumps aboard, she should be fit and faces a smaller field and softer competition now third up.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Whatadilemma
Whatadilemma is a promising three-year-old Gelding for the Ryan and Alexiou stable who looks ready to score third up after making massive improvements between his debut at the races and his second up effort going from Kembla to Newcastle out to 1400m and running home strongly to end up third. There’s been a tick over trial since then last week where he won impressively and there’s clearly room to improve again now third up. Think he could surprise at the odds.

Hawkesbury R3 - CLARENDON TAVERN (BM88) (1400m)

Selections:
#2 - Alcyone- $4.00
#5 - Rogue Bear  - $4.20
#7 - Sailor (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $7.00
#3 - Kinloch - $5.00

BEST BET - #2 - Alcyone- (NEXT BEST)
Very strong little race here that we have and I am keen to be in the corner of Alcyone who is resuming after an eighteen week lay off from the races for James Cummings under Zac Lloyds steering tomorrow. He’s a horse that races best with fresh legs, winning two from four first up and whilst he generally does his best work over longer distances I think that first up over 1400m is suitable off the back of two trials to lead him into this. The stable is absolutely flying and I think hes a good bet at $4.00

THE DANGER - #5 - Rogue Bear
Kris Lees’s Irish import five year old looks to make his Australian racing debut after having not raced since last August back in the UK. Kris brought him over early last month and has trialled him twice, both in the heavy going and he showed a lot of potential in the muddy ground. I am looking for genuine wet trackers for tomorrow and I think based off the trials he ticks the boxes. Stable is flying and wouldn’t have placed him in this race without consideration.

VALUE BET  - #7 - Sailor (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Sailor is another Kris Lees product that comes back from a short let up since the end of January and he has been in fine order this campaign. Winning at both Eagle Farm and Doomben back to back over the 1600m before most recently racing at the Sunny Coast when third to Rose of Duporth, he was ridden too aggressively forward there and I think that’s what cost him. If he settles with some cover he can very well make it three wins in his past four runs.

Hawkesbury R5 - BLAKES MARINE (BM72) (1600m)

Selections:
#3 - Pretty Amazing (NEXT BEST) - $4.00
#5 - Pungo  - $3.90
#4 - Jupitus  - $12.00
#1 - Duke Of Buckingham - $7.50

BEST BET - #3 - Pretty Amazing (NEXT BEST)
Pretty Amazing has looked pretty impressive thus far in her short career. Particularly, last time out she was resuming to the races at Kensington two weeks ago over the 1550m where she missed the start and was nearly 15 lengths of the leader at one point before absolutely belting through to the line, clocking one of the best last 600ms of the day and motoring home into third behind Luvoir. She appears that even if she settles a touch closer this time she will be too strong for this field late and I have her mapping to sit just off a genuine tempo and being in a good spot to launch on the turn.

THE DANGER - #5 - Pungo
I’m still a bit unsure on the true threshold of Pungo, who comes into this third up after scoring in fine fashion first up at Canterbury at the end of February. I had a bit of money on him there and wow he was impressive when getting back in the field from an awkward spot before shifting out and running them ragged late, clocking in an excellent last 600 time. He stepped up to a 1400m Warwick farm race last time out second up but he had to do too much early work there and went down third behind Bitcoin Baby and Le Vizir who are both excellent formlines. He shouldn’t have to do too much work here and maps to lob into a lovely spot behind the leaders. Will take beating.

VALUE BET - #4 - Jupitus
Jupitus scored impressively at Randwick first up over the 1400m in mid february but couldn’t go on with it when moving out to this distance and staying at the track, coming third behind the super progressive Journalism. Last time out he got no favours either and was against the run of the race, being worn down late. I think we can forgive that and he gets a genuine chance to go over again fourth up tomorrow in a softer field from a decent gate, I just think he might get too far back to threaten but if he’s around the mark on the turn he has what it takes to win.

Best Promotions for Hawkesbury Racecourse

Promotions are traditionally the primary way for punters to create an edge over the bookies, as they can save your cash when your runner fails to win, in the instance of Unibet they often offer 2nd and 3rd money back in bonus bets for a selection of races on the midweek and Provincial racing days. Coupled with their generous odds I have to put them as the top bookie promotion wise at the moment for Australian racing.

If you are looking for the best promotions this week for Wednesday's racing I wouldn’t look past Unibet, often they offer odds boosts in addition to the money back promotions. Don’t forget to check your account as well for personal offers.

Promotions often change so make sure you sign up at unibet.com.au to see what promotions are applicable to you and you may even be surprised to find some promotions that weren’t mentioned here!
