Wednesday Racing Tips - Hawkesbury Racecourse 21/02/24

Midweek racing returns to the Hawkesbury and we have a stacked eight race card with $360,000 worth of prize money available across the card and a sold set of races with four maidens and the rest BM64’s. The track is rated a Heavy 8 and the rail is in true position. Follow me below as I outline the card.

BEST BET - #5 -. Linebacker
Linebacker looks like he’s going to be tough to beat on debut for John O’Shea and comes for his first run off the back of a winning trial effort last time out at Randwick when stepping out in the company of some sharp juveniles with one of them having won their debut race since. I think he’s a sharp horse, lines up well here.

THE DANGER - #2 - Bosustow 
Bosustow is a juvenile for Annabel who debuted about a month ago at Rosehill in Saturday company where she set two wide and second last in the run before making some ground between runners in the straight to finish midfield. She lost a plate during the run and didn’t get the best of luck at times but will be fitter, is from a leading camp and I doubt runs poorly here.

VALUE BET  - #6 - War Ribbon (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
War Ribbon is a debutant for David Payne here and I think based on the way the stable is going with their juveniles as well as a few sharp trials to lead this guy into racing he can feature here at odds. He’s had two Rosehill trials and in each has looked strong and displayed a pleasing stride to finish second and get Collett on and a solid gate.

BEST BET - #3 - Santasia (NEXT BEST) 
Santasia hasn’t put a foot wrong in three career starts for the Ryan camp and after winning two back she last stepped out at Goulburn when crossing and leading along the rails but just finding one better in the last 200m of the run to go down second. Maps to find the front without too much trouble under Collett here and will be hard to hold out from there.

THE DANGER - #2 - Reigning King
Market is backing Reigning King to make this a race for Nathan Doyle as he resumes to racing for just his second prep and the way the stable is going he has to be respected as everything they touch at the moment wins. He’s had two trials to lead him back into racing, both have been pleasing and with this big of a market push you have to give him a look.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Oakfield Triumph 
Oakfield Triumph doesn’t win out of turn but should be improving quite sharply second up here off the back of a tough resuming run when coming back from an 34 week spell and being forced to set near the rear and out wide of the field before picking up late and I thought he was very strong through the line very late in the piece. Can surprise here.

BEST BET - #10 - Baile Fervor (BEST BET)
Baile Fervor produced his best run to date last time out at Newcastle when being held up from the 400m to the 250m before a split came at the 200m and he flew home over the 1300m to finish just behind the placegetters. He stays at the same weight now, gets Lloyd aboard, who is in career best form and with any luck I think he wins this.

THE DANGER - #1 - Bo Katan 
Fourth run overall and second up this prep since coming back from a long 30 week spell is Bo Katan. He returned at Wyong for the Litt camp when doing plenty back from the big break to come on strong from out wide in the straight and run home well into third place. Fitter, upside to come and should get a nice run with Schofield in the saddle.

VALUE BET - #9 - Rolling Magic
Rolling Magic comes in at a huge price for a race where most of the field is unknown and this guy just had his second career start off a 15 week break and looked good in it. He stepped out at Bathurst when squeezing a gap along the inside late and chasing hard into the minor placing. Lots of improvement to come still and I just think the price is too big to ignore.
