Wednesday Racing Tips - Kembla Grange Racecourse 03/01/24

Racing comes back to Kembla Grange for a very strong seven race midweek contest and we are racing in a true Heavy with the track rated a Heavy 10 but I think that it will make for some cheeky betting spots that might not have previously been there. I have run through the whole card so follow me below for my best betting spots!

BEST BET - #3 - Denarau
Denarau is a genuine wet tracking horse who is unknown at this distance range but who is also proven in the wet which is more than some others can say here. He has a win and close runner up placing in three Heavy runs and comes out of a Saturday grade race at Randwick where he ran on strongly into midfield. Rates very highly off the back of that should be tough to beat here if he handles the trip.

THE DANGER - #2 - Whatadilemma
Whatadilemma cause a bit of a dilemma for the stable last time out when she never raced comfortably and was flat footed all run at Gosford but clearly there were some issues there as the two starts prior she had been very sharp and I think can hit back hard now fit, with Schiller on and having had a little break.

VALUE BET  - #8 - Electric Tigress (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Electric Tigress could improve here for Maher and Eustace and whilst she hasn’t shown an awful lot in her two runs this time in she is very lightly raced and learning / improving with every run. Her last run saw her lead a long way at Newcastle before just drifting around in the straight and fading late but her condition and manners will only be better now.

BEST BET - #2 - Restonica (BEST BET) 
Always sharp is James Cummings with how he places his runners and his lightly raced ones specifically. I have seen this set up before from the stable and think Restonica is one of the best things going here. He has had two runs this time in and both have been very close placings at this course first up and then Gosford. Hard fit third up, soft field, surely wins.

THE DANGER - #10 - Late Night Talking
Late Night Talking is a debutant for Annabel Neasham who has been trialling too well to ignore and I have also seen some big early bets come through on him already. It all is pointing towards a good showing and I think that after his latest Rosehill trial where he led and flew home to win he is clearly being revved up for this. Go well.

VALUE BET  - #12 - Thaibeefsalade
Thaibeefsalade should be prominent here given that he has clocked two close placings in his last two runs but more so that the most recent run came over the 1200m here in the Heavy and he handled it so well when setting just off the pace and giving a strong kick in the straight to only find one better in a smart horse. Hard fit, handles the ground, rates highly here.

BEST BET - #2 - Katsumoto (NEXT BEST)
I have been waiting to see where Mick Freedman would place Katsumoto after the way that he won on debut at this track and trip. He stepped out as a short priced favourite there and set second in the run before really getting going on the turn to dominantly win. He did all of that off just the one public trial and as long as there’s no second up syndrome he wins this IMO.

THE DANGER - #5 - Diamond Lucy
I am tempted to say that the only real danger to Katsumoto is Diamond Lucy for the Price’s. She has had just the four career starts but hasn’t run poorly in any of them, winning one and placing in two and now she comes back to racing off of a 16 week break and having run a close second placing on debut when first up. She has sharply won a trial for her return, will make it a race.

VALUE BET - #9 - Direct Fire
I think Direct Fire likely had some genuine excuses last time out at Moruya when going hard early and being posted on the speed and three wide the run before fading badly when pushed wider in really not the best run. The run prior was her racing debut where she clocked a very solid time when winning on debut at Moruya. I think third up and hard fit she can make an impression again.
