Wednesday Racing Tips - Kensington Racecourse 02/08/23

Midweek racing returns to Randwick-Kensington and I am extremely keen to be back here at my home base. The racing here marks the unofficial return to Spring racing as a bunch of the top NSW stables send forward runners who look to be starting big preps in the upcoming months. We see a seven race card that that features two maiden races followed by five BM72’s over mixed distance ranges with all of the races being at 1800m or less and most being sprints which is always nice to see. I am keen to get stuck into things so folow me below as I outline my best betting spots of the day at Randwick-Kensington!

Kensington R3 - Bivouac @ Darley (Bm72) (1800m)

Selections:
#3 - New Republic (NEXT BEST) - $6.00
#2 - The Milkybar Kid  - $3.80
#5 - This'llbetheone- $7.00
#4 - Olympic Gaze - $11.00

BEST BET - #3 - New Republic (NEXT BEST)
Quite confident that New republic is a very good thing going for the Minnervini camp and whilst he hasn’t been at this track since about this time last year he has resumed in top order for the stable. He was three weeks between runs last time out off the back of a very close second placing at Canterbury when he stepped out over the 1900m at the track again and came from 5 lengths deep in the run to let down with real purpose and found the front at the perfect time to claim the race. His splits are the best in the field, stable’s flying and Collett retaining the ride all point to good things.

THE DANGER - #2 - The Milkybar Kid
Not convinced that The Milkybar Kid is the best thing in this field but I don’t want to be the idiot that discounts the near omnipresent Waterhouse / Bott stable, especially with their lightly raced runners and I think that he can improve sharply into this. He resumed off a 28 week spell last time out when placing fourth at Warwick Farm where he did get trapped wide in the latter stages of the run. He’s proven second up with a win and a second placing from two runs and the way the stable is going you can’t discount their runners ever.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Olympic Gaze
Olympic Gaze looks set to peak here third up off the back of two solid runs this time in where he just continues to improve with racing. He resumed off of a 21 week spell at Rosehill in Saturday grade where he just boxed along and looked for a run in the straight but couldn’t find one to finish midfield and then dropped back to midweek company last time out at Warwick Farm where he stepped out to the Mile and beat all nut the winner when bumping into the smart Ruby Flyer with the top two being lengths clear of the field and he ran a solid time there which reads very well for this. He will still have more to offer here third up and should go very well this time in.

Kensington R4 - Star Turn @ Vinery Stud (Bm72) (1550m)

Selections:
#6 - Bat Out Of Hell (BEST BET) - $2.00
#8 - Sweysive - $5.50
#7 - Sumo Star - $11.00
#1 - Two Big Fari- $15.00

BEST BET - #6 - Bat Out Of Hell (BEST BET)
It does look like it is going to be hard to beat Bat Out Of Hell for the Maher and Eustace giants who have booked James Mcdonald for this assignment and whilst he has been up for some time he seems to be holding form very well and now meet the easiest competition he has for some time. He’s had five runs this time in with the latest being a run in Saturday grade at Randwick where he was never headed being caught behind the leader in the straight and then held up from the 400m to 100m and still managed to grab third. A more economical run sees him win this now.

THE DANGER - #8 - Sweysive
This Bjorn Baker trained runner has hardly put in a bad performance in five runs back from a spell thus far and think he can atone for a luckless run up in Saturday grade last time out. He won here two back over the 1300m where he came from two wide to join the leaders at the 200m and just kept finding the line with purpose to win strongly and run a bit of time despite the wide run before racing at the 1500m last time in Rosehill where he was shuffled back along the fence and when he tried to come on he was held up from the 400m to 200m and still looked to start a decent run but it was too late by then and he couldn’t get working. Hard fit, drops back from Saturday competition and will be dangerous.

VALUE BET  - #7 - Sumo Star
Sumo Star is another who drops out of Saturday grade and can hit back hard here for Gary Portelli. The three year old raced two back at Canterbury Park over the 1250m where he found the lead on the corner and powered away from the field for a soft win before coming here where he beat all but the afformentoned Sweysive and then stepped out behind the likes of Soami at Rosehill where he was bumped around and did some wrong in the run to end midfield. He’s hard fit, rarely puts in a bad effort and with clear air this time round he will be running on strongly.

Kensington R6 - Ranvet (Bm72) (1250m)

Selections:
#2 - Capital Asset - $7.00
#10 - Dakota Vroom  - $5.50
#4 - Sneaky Shark (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $8.00
#11e - Sha Of Gomer - $7.00

BEST BET - #2 - Capital Asset
Capital Asset looks to come back in very good order for Peter and Paul Snowden and I think he has struck a winnable race first up. He’s a three time winner from ten runs and his last run came back at the end of March in the Heavy where he relished getting onto a heavy track before being sent away for a spell. His win two back before then came atop the ground so he clearly is a bit dynamic, handling all conditions and the way he has been trialling makes me think the stable is keen to get a ratings boosting win first up here.

THE DANGER - #10 - Dakota Vroom
Dakota Vroom is a good horse for Chris Waller that has only had the three career starts for a close placing on debut and won two back. He resumed off of a twenty week spell at Warwick Farm over the 1100m where he set just off the speed in the run and found the front at the 100m, driving hard through the line for a strong win. Then, last time out he stepped out in Saturday company over the 1200m where he had to set to the rear from the wide gate and looked for a run in the straight but never saw daylight behind a wall until way too late to win and should just about peak now third up. Dangerous.

VALUE BET - #4 - Sneaky Shark (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Sneaky Shark is one of few who isn’t on resumption in this race and his fitness edge could play a key role in combination with the booking of Schiller. He was three weeks between runs when racing at Canterbury last time out where he missed the start, found the fence and recovered and when he found a run in the straight he kept kicking to finish behind King of Naples. We all saw what King of Naples did last Saturday so that form obviously reads well and he will have more to offer now here, go close.

Jockey Of The Day – James McDonald

A clear top jockey in this meeting is James Mcdonald. He is the best jockey in the country and one of the best in the world. Kensington is his stomping ground and I have already tipped a few of his rides above but I think this looks a particularly good meeting for him. I have highlighted all his rides below:

R1 - #4 - Extreme Spirit - $6.50
R2 - #5 - Atlantic Ocean - $3.00
R3 - #1 - Hollywood Hero - $2.50
R4 - #4 - Lascars - $3.70
R6 - #6 - Arranmore - $3.80
R7 - #3 - Jupitus - $4.00

Multi Tips For Kensington Racecourse

I have opted to make a hybrid between following Jmac and my other top runner of the day in a place multi as there are a lot of smaller fields in some of these midweek races, which makes our chances of picking up the win better and also of having a horse run into the placings. I think that this should be a solid value bet and a fun thing to track over race day.

R3 - #3 - New Republic - PLC $2.50
R4 - #6 - Bat Out Of Hell - PLC $1.22
R6 - #4 - Sneaky Shark - PLC $2.90

Total Odds = $8.80
$50 Stake = $440.00 Return!

Best Promotions for Kensington Racecourse

Promotions are traditionally the primary way for punters to create an edge over the bookies, as they can save your cash when your runner fails to win, in the instance of Unibet they often offer 2nd and 3rd money back in bonus bets for a selection of races on the midweek and Provincial racing days. Coupled with their generous odds I have to put them as the top bookie promotion wise at the moment for Australian racing.

If you are looking for the best promotions this week for Wednesday's racing I wouldn’t look past Unibet, often they offer odds boosts in addition to the money back promotions. Don’t forget to check your account as well for personal offers.

Promotions often change so make sure you sign up at unibet.com.au to see what promotions are applicable to you and you may even be surprised to find some promotions that weren’t mentioned here!
