Wednesday Racing Tips - Kensington Racecourse 05/07/23

Midweek racing kicks on this week at Randwick-Kensington to lead us into what should be another big weekend of racing at Rosehill and I have gone through this midweek card as I believe there will be some nice types going around for the top NSW stables and those that have locally trained runners here and I am very keen to see what should be a couple Saturday races in disguise. The weather looks fine, the track is rated a soft 5 and I am keen to get stuck into things so follow me below for another great day of racing!

BEST BET - #3 - Demitasse (NEXT BEST)
We were with the Paul Messara trained Demitasse last time out and we got very unlucky with this talented three year old when just about nothing went right for her. She raced here over the 1400m under Bullock where she had to do it three wide with no cover and took over on the straight, looked the winner and only went down late for a very brave second. He looks fine without that additional 100m and with genuinely any luck this time he should smack these.

THE DANGER - #5 - Venelope 
The Maher and Esutace trained Juvenile Venelope is such an intriguing runner off the back of just two career starts where he had a very game placing at Gosford on debut at the end of last year before going to Warwick Farm a couple weeks later and clocking one of the fastest last 600m split of the day for a flashy and impressive win. He has had a few trials to lead him back into racing and is seemingly moving very well. Collet gets the ride and all signs point to good things.

VALUE BET  - #7 - Zip On By 
All you can do is win and that is what the Bridge trained three year old has done in two runs back from a long twenty three week spell and gets his crack at an in town race now. He returned at the end of May at Kembla over the 1200m where Loomed to chase straightening and gradually wore leader down for gutsy, grinding win before going to Newcastle just shy of a month ago where he found a gap from back in the field at the 200m and burst through for another big win. Hardest contest he’s faced is now but looks primed for it.

BEST BET - #10 - Principessa
Principessa looks very well placed for Joseph Pride in this field and he gets his chance to go one better over some rivals who appear in this race and that he has met recently. He’s put togther a bunch of sharp and game second placings in a row, getting unlucky not to win in a couple of them before racing here last time out where he began badly but tracked into the race and loomed menacingly to win but the hard recovery effort told and he finished just outside of the placegetters then. The runs before have seen him running a bit faster than these and I am keen to be in his corner, hopefully doesn’t miss the jump this time.

THE DANGER - #5 - Allasandra
Allasandra is shooting for four in a row going into this and looks like she should be coming to the end of her prep soon but very much also looks like a future star for David Payne. She has won her last three, all quite dominantly, with the most recent run being over the 1400m here in this grade where she got a nice trial behind the speed and challenged the leader inside the last 200m to finish best for another strong win where she got the better of the aforementioned Principessa. I think if there’s still gas in the tank he can easily win this, just not sure if there is.

VALUE BET  - #9 - Golden Gate (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
You would have to think that Golden Gate is close to a win for the Ryan and Alexiou stable. He’s only had the seven career starts and has already recorded two wins and a handful of close placings in just his seven career starts. He resumed at the end of April over the 1200m and saluted dominantly at Tamworth and has since been around the mark in stronger races but  last time out over the 1350m at Beaumont Newcastle he recovered after missing the start a length and looked the winner a long way but was claimed in the last 50m to just go down late. He looks astutely placed off the back of that and I think he will run well here with even luck.

BEST BET - #4 - Passeggiata (BEST BET) 
Passegiata is a lightly raced talent for the Bjorn Baker stable that is having just his second prep at the races and fifth run overall for the camp. His debut prep saw him win back to back races at Gosford and then Rosehill in Saturday company before being sent back for a spell. He resumed off that twenty week spell three weeks back at Gosford where he sped out to lead by over 5 lengths early and whilst his first up condition told late he had just put far too many lengths on them early to be claimed and was never in doubt. He should be fitter now, Dyl Gibbons retains the ride and will know how to have him conserve some energy for later in the piece off that first run and I struggle to see him losing this.

THE DANGER - #1 - Omni Man 
The Waterhouse and Bott trained Omni Man is a bit of a hit or miss horse with her record from ten career runs being four wins and no placings. However, she is coming from the absolute giant stable that she is and when she wins, she wins well. She resumed off a 33 week spell two back at Warwick Farm where she was trapped three wide without cover and joined the leader in the middle of the straight, dug deep and found more than the other for an outstanding on pace win. She then went straight into the deep end at this track in Saturday company when being pushed wide throughout and finishing down the track to Insurrection. Third up now, fit and should get an easier run than his past two in softer company here. Go close.

VALUE BET - #8 - Pinance

Pinance looks like a good thing for James Cummings and gets in nicely weighted for this assignment with the claim from LLoyd. He’s had two runs back from a spell this time in, both on the Sandown Hillside and has come up to Sydney now for this assignment third up and off the back of an outstanding 1000m run two weeks back at the Hillside track where he set 2nd and headed out wide at the 200m to drive hard to the line and beat all but one there who has a bit of class about her as well. He looks very well placed now third up, flying stable and sticking at the 1000m.

A clear top jockey in this meeting is James Mcdonald. He is the best jockey in the country and one of the best in the world. Kensington is his stomping ground and I have already tipped a few of his rides above but I think this looks a particularly good meeting for him. I have highlighted all his rides below:

I have opted to make a hybrid between following Jmac and my other top runner of the day in a place multi as there are a lot of smaller fields in some of these midweek races, which makes our chances of picking up the win better and also of having a horse run into the placings. I think that this should be a solid value bet and a fun thing to track over race day.
