Wednesday Racing Tips - Kensington Racecourse 14/06/23

Midweek racing kicks on this week at Randwick-Kensington Racecourse off the back of an awesome, high-calibre card at this track last weekend to support the Stradbroke and there’s a modest six race card set for tomorrow with two maiden races to kick the card off and the remaining four races to be contested in mid / high benchmark grade. The track is rated a good 4, the rail is in true position and I think we are on for a good day of midweek racing. Follow me below as I outline my best betting spots for Kensington’s racing on Wednesday!

BEST BET - #3 - Demitasse  - (BEST BET)
Demitasse looks the straight bat option post the maiden races on the card. The Paul Messara trained three year old has had just the two runs back from a spell this time in. He resumed off a 19 week spell in a Gosford Highway and was very strong chasing out five wide to finish runner up to the fitter / in form Remlaps Gem and then came to this track three weeks ago in Saturday Grade and powered away in the last 200m for an impressive highway win there. More upside to come third up and should go very well here.

THE DANGER - #6 - Strombus
Strombus is a very solid horse for John O’Shea who must be respected in this field. He has been up awhile now, having had five runs this time in since resuming off a 22 week spell and has been running well, looking to have really found form in his last couple outings with a win three back and two close placings since. He only runs well and meets a beatable field here.

VALUE BET  - #4 - Ready To Humble
I think that Ready To Humble is going to improve sharply second up here off a long spell. He was trialling outstandingly for his return to racing, sharply winning trials at Canberra and Sapphire Coast in good time before making his return at Cantebrury Park where he was ridden along the speed and just battled away in the straight to end up midfield. He draws gate one now, blinkers go on and I expect him to be in the finish.

BEST BET - #2 - Sky Out - (NEXT BEST)
There’s a couple decent chances in this field but I really think that it is past time for the Maher and Eustace trained Sky Out to record a win. He’s in the midst of his first Australian Prep after being brought over from England and has been running very well without winning. He ran in a Mornington race two back over the 2000m in this grade where he was luckless in running and his class just saw him run into the placings before being luckless again last time out at Ballarat. He comes into this hard fit, is proven at these distances, Gibbons is on. He appeals big time.

THE DANGER - #4 - Oz Legend
I think that Oz Legend is a top chance in this field for Chris Waller. He seems to have hit form in his last few runs back from a long spell and has been worked along patiently but with enough time to retain fitness. He took a two month break from the races off the back of a sharp win and smart placing before and then returned to race three weeks ago at Rosehill where he should have finished closer but was squeezed back in the straight there. I think he can make a mockery of that last run and finish well here.

VALUE BET  - #8 - California Grass 
It’s hard to ignore the flying John Thompson runner in California Grass who has found outstanding form in his last two runs. He raced at Newcastle two runs back over the 2300m where he came on strong from the back of the field and was far too good for them, drawing clear in the last 200m. He then saluted again in similar fashion from the back of the field over the 2100m at Wyong. He’s hard fit, flying, has that winning feeling and will be sure to run well again here, albeit in a tougher contest.

BEST BET - #8 - Principessa 
I have to stick with Principessa here and I do think that is she had won any of her three starts back from a spell she would be a lot shorter here but I am more than happy to take her at this price. The Joe Pride runner has done nothing wrong in her three starts since coming back from a spell, looking the winner in all three for a long way and just finding one better in some smart types to finish runner up in all three of those starts. Nothing in this field appears to have the same class she has met recently and as such I think she is the leading contender here.

THE DANGER - #3 - Mystic Mermaid 
Mystic Mermaid should go very well here first up if he is ready to go for Chris Waller. The four year old had a short summer prep where he picked up a win from four outings before going away for a 17 week break that we see him resume from today. He generally doesn’t take much to get going, placing in two from three first up runs and I think his quiet trial here last week was much better than it seemed. I think he will go close.

VALUE BET - #5 - Star Impact (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
It’s hard to knock the Mark Minervini trained Star Impact who has been flying in his three runs back from a spell. He ran second up at Newcastle in a BM64 where he made a lot of late ground, working well nicely off the rail in the straight to end up second to a smart one in Overrriding who has won again since. He then ran in a 1350m at Wyong where he was brilliant from midfield, coming on way too strongly for them to salute there. He’s hard fit, in form and I think he goes close here.

I have opted to make a hybrid between following Jmac and my other top runner of the day in a place multi as there are a lot of smaller fields in some of these midweek races, which makes our chances of picking up the win better and also of having a horse run into the placings. I think that this should be a solid value bet and a fun thing to track over race day.
