Wednesday Racing Tips - Kensington Racecourse 18/10/23

Racing returns to Randwick-Kensington for another cracker midweek card as we are well underway the group 1 races season / spring season and I am keen to pick up some winners as the top NSW stables and Victorian stables send forth runners who look to be in for big Spring preps and some who are coming back from Saturday grade racing. I have gone across the seven race card and picked out a best and next best betting spot of the day as well as a roughie of the day and I am keen to get  stuck into things so follow me below as I outline my best betting spots of the day at Randwick-Kensington!

Kensington R1 - Star Turn @ Vinery Stud (Bm72) (1550m)

Selections:
#3 - City Of Lights (BEST BET) - $2.50
#6 - Petersham - $5.50
#2 - Hinchinjive - $11.00
#5 - Princess Rayaa - $5.50

BEST BET - #3 - City Of Lights (BEST BET)
It does look like City Of Lights is going to be tough to beat here for Joe Pride. She’s had just the one run since changing stables and coming over to Joe and wasn’t totally suited by the track pattern and where she landed in the run that day but she was still powerful through the line when passing a few horses and landing in fifth. She should improve sharply here and I imagine will look strong.

THE DANGER - #6 - Petersham
Petersham returns off of a long 31 week spell for the Waterhouse / Bott stable and given the way that the stable goes with their resuming horses I don’t think that this distance is out of winning reach first up for her. He’s had two sharp trials to ready her for the return to racing and gets in very light for this. I like the look of both the trials and am always a fan of the stable’s runners.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Hinchinjive
Smart horse for Rob Quinton in Hinchinjive who has been up for a while this time but doesn’t look to be slowing down at all. He won two back in great fashion over the 1500m at The Hawkesbury before stepping out at Warwick Farm last time and looking the winner a long way before being bumped and becoming unbalanced, being forced wider but never letting go of the task when powering home into second place. Well placed here again.

Kensington R2 - DrinkWise Mdn Plate (1300m)

Selections:
#6 - Mogwai - $5.00
#5 - Keenan - $2.25
#4 - Armed Forces - $5.00
#8 - Written Silk (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $19.00

BEST BET - #6 - Mogwai
I like the look of James Cummings’ Mogwai to roll the current favourite. He resumes here off the back of a 17 week spell and has gone close in his three run prep to date but now strikes a winnable contest to shed the maiden tag. He’s had two trials to lead him back into racing and the last one I particularly liked the look of when really getting going to place third behind Influential. I think he is well placed here at a nice price.

THE DANGER - #5 - Keenan
Keenan is a smart horse who hasn’t been far away in his two runs to date for the Waterhouse / Bott stable and now gets another honest chance to win. Both of his runs so far have been very close second placings where he has trucked through the runs, clocked some good splits and only been overhauled late by smart horses. He comes into this hard fit, on the quick one week back up and with Clarky on he will have every chance.

VALUE BET  - #8 - Written Silk (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Not sure if Written Silk has what it takes to win this just yet but with two subsequent winners coming out of the race he debuted in at Newcastle you’d have to think there was a bit of talent about. He made his debut to racing for the Ryan / Alexiou camp when trapped three wide with no cover and still sticking to his task to hold third place there over the 1150m a couple weeks ago and I am keen to see what he can produce now with a softer run in a smaller field and with the natural improvement expected second up. Big price as well.

Kensington R4 - James Squire (Bm78) (1550m)

Selections:
#1 - Iknowastar (NEXT BEST) - $2.40
#3 - Holymanz - $3.80
#9 - The Replicant - $7.50
#2 - Touristic - $5.50

BEST BET - #1 - Iknowastar (NEXT BEST)
Gee it is tough to get away from Bjorn Baker’s Iknowastar who has made half of his 14 starts winning ones and doesn’t look to be slowing down now. He has won three in a row and last time out stepped up to this grade when racing over the 1400m here, leading by nearly four lengths in the run before kicking in the straight, being way too good and winning by nearly 7 lengths. I am keen to watch him go around now with a tougher contest, but still a winnable one.

THE DANGER - #3 - Holymanz
I think that the market is backing Holymanz in to an extent due to Iknowastar taking on a big weight for this assignment but he is a smart horse regardless. He hasn’t done an awful lot in his two runs back from a spell this prep but he takes a very sharp drop in class for this, coming back from some tough Saturday grade racing and he also should be approaching his peak fitness now third up. Go close.

VALUE BET - #9 - The Replicant
If Iknowastar doesn't fire tomorrow I think The Replicant will be right there waiting to pounce. The Joe Pride runner came off of a 19 week spell last time out over the 1400m at Warwick Farm and looks to have returned in great order when the market said he’d need the run but he tracked the leaders into the straight before finding a gap and powering away in the last 50-100m for a smart win.  He does take a step up in grade now but with natural improvement second up I think he handles the task.

Jockey Of The Day – James McDonald

A clear top jockey in this meeting is James Mcdonald. He is the best jockey in the country and one of the best in the world. Kensington is his stomping ground and I have already tipped a few of his rides above but I think this looks a particularly good meeting for him. I have highlighted all his rides below:

R1 - #4 - Extreme Spirit - $6.50
R2 - #5 - Atlantic Ocean- $3.00
R3 - #1 - Hollywood Hero - $2.50
R4 - #4 - Lascars - $3.70
R6 - #6 - Arranmore- $3.80
R7 - #3 - Jupitus- $4.00

Multi Tips For Kensington Racecourse

I have opted to make a hybrid between following Jmac and my other top runner of the day in a place multi as there are a lot of smaller fields in some of these midweek races, which makes our chances of picking up the win better and also of having a horse run into the placings. I think that this should be a solid value bet and a fun thing to track over race day.

Best Promotions for Kensington Racecourse

Promotions are traditionally the primary way for punters to create an edge over the bookies, as they can save your cash when your runner fails to win, in the instance of Unibet they often offer 2nd and 3rd money back in bonus bets for a selection of races on the midweek and Provincial racing days. Coupled with their generous odds I have to put them as the top bookie promotion wise at the moment for Australian racing.

If you are looking for the best promotions this week for Wednesday's racing I wouldn’t look past Unibet, often they offer odds boosts in addition to the money back promotions. Don’t forget to check your account as well for personal offers.

Promotions often change so make sure you sign up at unibet.com.au to see what promotions are applicable to you and you may even be surprised to find some promotions that weren’t mentioned here!
