Wednesday Racing Tips - Kensington Racecourse 22/03/23

The Australian Guineas weekend has come to a close, but the excitement at Kensington racecourse is still going strong with another thrilling eight race card on the horizon. There’s a total of $440,000 prize available across the card, promising a fierce competition among the horses. The track is currently rated to be a good 4, and the rail is out +4m. If the weather remains cooperative, it should remain this way. As always, there are some solid bets to be had throughout the card, and I'll be taking you through my best races to give you a better idea of what to expect. Stay tuned and get ready for another day of high-stakes horse racing at Kensington!

Kensington R3 - RANVET MAIDEN PLATE (1300m)

Selections:
#2 - Iron Man (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $7.50
#11 - Waikiki - $2.90
#1 - Himalaism - $5.00
#9 - Bespangled - $13.00

BEST BET - #2 - Iron Man (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
I do think Iron Man is very well suited in this field second up here after taking a long break from the races. He resumed at Newcastle off the back of a couple soft trials and was as honest as they come there, after doing it reasonably tough in the run wide he shifted out and charged hard inside the last 200m to just miss in a bob of the heads. He maps to be much closer in the run this time, will be fitter and better for the experience there and with Rachel King on they can take this out.

THE DANGER - #1 - Himalaism
Himalaism is a Waller trained three-year-old who, after a short let up from the races in a reasonably unsuccessful campaign up in grade, returned to racing just shy of two weeks ago at this track when he was held up badly at the 400m and then shifted out to flash home but just missed in a driving finish and easily could have won if the run wasn’t as impeded. The quick turnaround shows intent, he’s fit and off the back of that run he is screaming for a win.

VALUE BET  - #9 - Bespangled
Bespangled is a Kris Lees trained three-year-old who resumed at the races after a short let up two weeks back at Kensington in a similar race to this and he was very honest there, sitting up on the speed three wide with n cover all trip and still showing a solid change of gears to fight to the line. It was a brave effort but the tough run told inside the last 100m when no match to the eventual winner and runner up. Second up now, out to 1300m which looks a good stepping stone for him and the stable has to be respected with their three-year-olds.

Kensington R4 - EXCEEDANCE'S 1ST YEARLING (BM78) (1000m)

Selections:
#3 - Airman (NEXT BEST) - $2.40
#1 - Headwall - $2.40
#2 - Crosswinds - $8.00
#4 - Shadow Vampire - $5.00

BEST BET - #3 - Airman (NEXT BEST)
Airman can resume a winner tomorrow at Kensington. He debuted at Kembla Grange as an odds on favourite and toweled them there before going onto a BM72 race in Saturday grade at Rosehill where not much went right for him in the run before being sent back to the paddock. He has trialled recently for this at Rosehill alongside some nice types and wow did he truck along there to win that trial. He maps to have the run of the race and I can see him giving them too much to catch.

THE DANGER - #1 - Headwall
The market indicates that this is going to be a closely contested race between Headwall and Airman and I think that is fair given Headwall is absolutely flying at the moment. He resumed mid february at this track over the 1000m in a BM72 where clocked the race best last 600m and despite being held up throughout the run was outstanding in defeat when 2nd to Distillate who had the run of the race. He then went onto another BM72 sprint at Warwick Farm where he again clocked the race best 600m and won with something in hand. This looks like his coming out party and I think that they’ll have a bold showing come the race.

VALUE BET  - #2 - Crosswinds
Crosswinds is a Snowden trained three-year-old who looks to be the threat to our favourites. Despite finishing well back in the field first up at Flemington he still ran a time that looks very good in this grade and wasn’t totally disgraced in that run either. That was in the Inglis and despite being in a tricky spot he still managed to run over the top of a few late there. He will be fitter and better for that run and finds a much more winnable race here second up. Well placed to take this out.

Kensington R5 - FURPHY (BM78) (1800m)

Selections:
#3 - Biscayne Bay (BEST BET) - $4.40
#8 - Bon Vivant - $4.20
#4 - Silent Agenda - $5.50
#9 - Decadent Tale - $8.50

BEST BET - #3 - Biscayne Bay (BEST BET)
Biscayne Bay is a talented horse for the Maher and Eustace camp that looks to have returned to racing in fine order off the back of a solid first up run at Warwick Farm. He was behind the likes of Travest and ahead of Le Vizir when finishing second in that race fresh. He had a couple of excuses in the run and I think without those challenges he could have got one better on Travest. That form reads well for this and with natural improvement I think he should win this.

THE DANGER - #8 - Bon Vivant
I have been burnt too many times already this season not backing James Cummings at Kensington and I think that Bon Vivant is a genuine prospective four-year-old for Cummings who has been screaming for a win in his three runs this prep, placing in all of them. He comes into this hard fit, with race experience and ready to win. Zac Lloyd is aboard, they get in light, map well enough and I think that he will have a flashy finish waiting in hand. Scary threat.

VALUE BET - #4 - Silent Agenda
Silent Agenda is a Joe Pride seven-year-old who has been racing in good order this campaign. He has two placings from four runs in some tough company and the most recent run he narrowly went down to place third over the 1900m at Canterbury park in really good time. He’s been let up since then, had just the one trial to lead him back into this where he seemingly moved nicely and I think that Nash aboard must be respected. They’ve clearly got intent here and this isn’t out of reach.

Best Promotions for Kensington Racecourse

Promotions are traditionally the primary way for punters to create an edge over the bookies, as they can save your cash when your runner fails to win, in the instance of Unibet they often offer 2nd and 3rd money back in bonus bets for a selection of races on the midweek and Provincial racing days. Coupled with their generous odds I have to put them as the top bookie promotion wise at the moment for Australian racing.

If you are looking for the best promotions this week for Wednesday's racing I wouldn’t look past Unibet, often they offer odds boosts in addition to the money back promotions. Don’t forget to check your account as well for personal offers.

Promotions often change so make sure you sign up at unibet.com.au to see what promotions are applicable to you and you may even be surprised to find some promotions that weren’t mentioned here!
