Wednesday Racing Tips - Kensington Racecourse 25/10/23

Racing returns to Randwick-Kensington for another cracker midweek card as we are well underway the group 1 races season / spring season and I am keen to pick up some winners as the top NSW stables and Victorian stables send forth runners who look to be in for big Spring preps and some who are coming back from Saturday grade racing. I have gone across the seven race card and picked out a best and next best betting spot of the day as well as a roughie of the day and I am keen to get  stuck into things so follow me below as I outline my best betting spots of the day at Randwick-Kensington!

BEST BET - #6 - Vanquished (BEST BET) 
Three year old super maiden here and it is no secret how the Gai / Bott stable has been with their debutants / resuming lightly raced runners and I don’t think Vanquished is any exception here, albeit in a tough field. He has had just two career starts and hasn’t been seen since finishing down the track in May to Kadinsky Abstract and now comes into this off the back of two trials where he has been absolutely flying. I like the look of his last start trial win at this track in particular. Well placed.

THE DANGER - #1 - Armed Forces
Obvious danger here in Chris Waller’s Armed Forces who does look to be working towards a win quite nicely and should be getting to his peak third up here. He’s had two runs back from a spell and has improved sharply between them. He last stepped out at The Valley over the 1200m where he improved from deep in the run to take over and fight hard to the line only to go down in the final 200m when peaking just a bit early in the run. Well placed to win now.

VALUE BET  - #10 - Pajanti 
Pajanti is another horse who can take this out approaching hard fitness third up off the back of two meritful runs. He last stepped out over the 1200m at Warwick Farm where he was bumped jumping but recovered well to fight hard to the line and only be beaten by the exacta there in the last 100m. There’s already been a subsequent winner emerge from that race and with Tim Clark on and the light weight I can’t see them running a bad race here.

BEST BET - #7 - Golden Passport
Competitive field here and as such Golden Passport comes in at a nice price but I do think he is ready for this trip and is the leading contender here. He kicked off the campaign with a soft win at Muswellbrook before putting together a bunch of sharp placings and now comes off of a 2400m run at Warwick Farm where he trucked along through the run and just lacked the dash to close the race out late. He will be much better having had that run now and can win here.

THE DANGER - #3 - Speycaster 
Smart horse for Chris Waller in Speycaster who comes into this off the back of a 2000m win at the Hawkesbury and I think he looks well placed to go on with it now. That win saw him take a step back in grade where he relished it and moved along very well in the run before hitting the line hard in the straight to hold them at bay. He clocked great splits then and if he handles the extra 400m he should be tough to beat here.

VALUE BET  - #1 - Casual Connection (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Casual Connection has been flying for the Sargent stable and I don’t see him slowing down now. He put together two sharp and close up second placings at Warwick Farm over the 2200m before stepping out over this distance at Warwick Farm last time out and running an awesome race where, despite being posted wide all run, he just kept grinding the leaders down to win and win well. Can go on with it.

BEST BET - #1 - Sweet Baby Boom (NEXT BEST)
I am very much looking forward to see if the Gai / Bott trained Sweet Baby Boom can handle the top weight here and win another race for what looks like a super progressive horse. He’s won or placed in his last three races with two of those wins being over the 1200m and one of them coming at this track before he took a short three week break from racing and last stepping out over this track / trip to be held wide in the concluding stages of the run but still coming on very strongly to only be beaten by one runner in the straight.

THE DANGER - #5 - Fairway Star
Fairway Star is putting together a handy record for Bjorn Baker with three wins and a couple of placings in his nine run career and he seems to have come back to racing in fine order and can go on with it here. He resumed off of a 31 week spell a couple weeks back at The Hawkesbury when setting fourth along the fence and finding a run at the 350m to power away from them and win well. Off the back of that run I think the extra 100m will suit him well here and I don’t see him running poorly now.

VALUE BET - #8 - Yankee Hussel
Yankee Hussel has a very good second up record and I think he can improve into this for Kris Lees. He resumed off of an 18 week spell a few weeks back at Eagle Farm where he was a bit too deep in the run to be a winning threat but still found the line well in defeat after doing it tough that run. He will be a lot fitter for that run and the extra 200m now looks very well suited to his run style. Will be one of the strongest late.

A clear top jockey in this meeting is James Mcdonald. He is the best jockey in the country and one of the best in the world. Kensington is his stomping ground and I have already tipped a few of his rides above but I think this looks a particularly good meeting for him. I have highlighted all his rides below:

I have opted to make a hybrid between following Jmac and my other top runner of the day in a place multi as there are a lot of smaller fields in some of these midweek races, which makes our chances of picking up the win better and also of having a horse run into the placings. I think that this should be a solid value bet and a fun thing to track over race day.
