Wednesday Racing Tips - Newcastle Racecourse 12/04/23

Eight races at Newcastle with four maidens and four bm64s almost all over the 1400m and less and a couple mid distances race to mid ard. The card sees some interesting types debuting at the races as well as some progressing towards or having dropped back from this season's Saturday grade racing. The track is rated soft 5 and the rail is in true position. Follow me as I outline my best spots for Wednesday’s racing at Newcastle below.

BEST BET - #4 - Lipscani
The respect for #5 - The Englishman is understandable for Lipscani goes on top for me. She is having her third start at the races and clocked one of the better last 600ms of the meeting at Canterbury when not getting clear air for a long way as well. Then took a 5 week break and they tried her on the heavy at Kembla in a small field and whilst she managed it and ran second, I think she will be much better back on this going today and if she gets into a decent spot she has the speed and class I believe to run them down.

THE DANGER - #5 - The Englishman
I think The Englishman is just a bit too short for me but he is the other in the field who has shown some ability already this prep, having placed second in two from four starts. He isn’t meeting as tough a field as he generally faces here and Clipperton takes the ride, top threat.

VALUE BET  - #10 - Vegas On Fire 
Vegas On Fire is a genuine chance here. The Joe Pride trained three year old placed third over the 1200m here on debut three weeks back and whilst she wasn’t a threat to the top two she did enough on debut to follow her. The stable is flying and must be respected here, she gets in light and Ford retains the ride.

BEST BET - #14 - Meod (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
Very Interesting sprint that I am looking forward to and I’m with Meod who has has a bit on these if she can resume how she debuted at the races late last year when last first up and winning and also having a close third placing in that short three run pre. She has heaps of early speed and can cross in what looks like a true sprint. I like her chances.

THE DANGER - #10 - Bayezid 
Cummings and Juveniles are something that can’t be ignored this season and Bayezid is another who draws out wide but can find the front and be hard to hold out. He hasn’t been seen at the races since late November this year but has had two trials last month at Warwick Farm to lead him into this. Top chance to take this out with Zac Lloyd aboard.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Flora 
Flora won two back here over this distance after a nice six week break from the races when taking over at the 200m to score impressively. The time wasn’t all that flash but the run style looks good and she backed it up with an honest third placing at this track the run after. She’s had four weeks away from the races, finds the ground she likes and doesn’t draw too tricky. Can win again.

BEST BET - #9 - La Pittrice (BEST BET) 
Good race here as well in the big field but I am keen to stick with La Pittrice who maps very well here, three weeks since scoring ever so impressively to break the maiden tag in her second start at the races when a $15 chance in a very good form race, beating off the likes of Golden Eagle and Secret Revolution there. Got a good run off a hot tempo there and should be right up on the speed, looks like she has some class and has heaps of upside still off that run. Keen to see what happens come race day.

THE DANGER - #1 - Uzziah   
Uzziah gets well up in the weights now to 62.5kg off the back of a great first up win here over this distance when showing a really good change up of speed. Query is obviously if she can do it again with the big weight, but maps to get a nice run and will have a strong kick for them around the turn. Ratings are the best in the field, hence the weight.

VALUE BET - #5 - London
Interesting Runner who I think has a place chance is London who changed ownership to Jarred Austing from the Waller stable at the beginning of the year and has resumed to the races well with a win last time out second up at the Hawkesbury on a heavy track when taking over at the 350m and kicking clear of them. Looks to have returned in great order and will only be more of a threat third up now.

It’s a big day at Newcastle and there are some real stand out types in a few of these races that I think can take advantage of the front running bias that Newcastle has for the shorter courses especially. I am tipping against a few short priced favourites and as such I have combined my best runners together in a place multi.
