Wednesday Racing Tips - Newcastle Racecourse 24/04/24

Eight races to be run and won at Newcastle tomorrow and we have quite a nice card on our hands with some of the more progressive runners in NSW stepping out to race as we look towards another weekend of big racing as the Autumn Group 1 races season is well underway. I have gone through this card and picked out my best betting spots so follow me below as I outline them!

BEST BET - #1 - Curl Curl (BEST BET)  
Curl Curl looks like a good bet to kick off proceedings at Newcastle tomorrow and comes here first up after gelding following a few starts to kick the career off ending in September last year. This is his home track, he’s had two sharp trials to lead him back into racing with the latest being a win, gets Bullock aboard and his first up run here was great last time so I think he will only be better now.

THE DANGER - #10 - Zoubaby
Market is giving plenty of respect to Richard and Will Freedman’s two year old debutante who was scratched from race three in favour of this where she would have been competing against her own age but the placement of connections in this race must be respected. She’s had a couple of very smooth trial wins in her four trials to lead her into start one and should go well here under Schiller.

VALUE BET  - #5 - Rainbow Goddess 
John Thompson and Rachel King combine on Rainbow Goddess who comes here from Randwick and has had King aboard for two trials at the home base. The horse has been moving quite well on both occasions and if the stable is anything to go by, they have to be respected bringing her here for start number one as they rarely place their runners poorly.

#5 - Body Of Venus (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)  - $11.00

BEST BET - #7 - Glorioso 
I think that with Zoubaby out of this race, Glorioso shapes up very well in the second short course sprint of the meeting to cross them from out wide and prove too strong. He has had three starts to kick the career off for James Cummings and comes here deserving of the maiden win after placing strongly in each of the prior runs. He gets King aboard, will have a stack of natural improvement after the resuming run at the Hawkesbury and is the one to beat for me.

THE DANGER - #2 - Moonraker
Moonraker steps out for start number two for the Snowden’s after debuting in mid December last year at Randwick in Saturday grade where he raced very greenly from out wide when finishing last in a small field but he would have retained a stack of benefit from the run and has now had a couple sharp trials to lead him back into racing. He comes back to this level which should be more than suitable to see him be competitive here.

VALUE BET  - #5 - Body Of Venus (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
Always respecting Nathan Doyle after the year that he has been having and I think that Body Of Venus is going to be sharp coming back here after alone start at the end of November last year where he didn’t show all that much. However, he’s had two trials to lead him back into racing and the latest was a nice win here where he looked to move well and the stable is flying. Gets in well weighted with Ford aboard as well.

BEST BET - #4 - Edge Of Reward (NEXT BEST)
Edge Of Reward won very well last start when third up at this course for the Buchannan camp and I think he’s going to go on with it here based on how he looked last time out. This is a pretty deep race we find for a Wednesday at Newcastle but based on the way that Lee Magorrian rode him with authority last time out and that he retains the ride I think they are going to have another decent showing here.

THE DANGER - #1 - Sailor
Always dangerous are Kris Lees’s horses when they step out in these Provincial racecourses and this guy is a smart one, having won five of his twenty career starts and placed in a bunch more. He comes here after winning at this course a couple weeks back over the Mile where I must say he was very sharp and looks to have more to offer here. Gets a nice claim to offset the big weight with Osmond aboard and should be competitive here.

VALUE BET - #8 - Jessandi 
I think that the recent runs of Jessandi read more than well enough to see him be competitive here. He has had four runs this time in for the Conners camp and hasn’t run a bad race in any with a close placing a couple starts back before running home hard from not the easiest of spots at Canberra last time out to clock some good splits and finish midfield. I think he will only be sharper off of that effort now.

It’s a big day at Newcastle and there are some real stand out types in a few of these races that I think can take advantage of the front running bias that Newcastle has for the shorter courses especially. I am tipping against a few short priced favourites and as such I have combined my best runners together in a place multi.
