Wednesday Racing Tips - Sale Racecourse 24/05/23

Racing returns to Sale for an exciting eight race metro midweek meeting and there are some nice types going around for the big Victorian stables with a handful on debut and the rest coming back to the races mid way through their preps, some of whom look well placed to go onto metro racing. There’s three maiden races on the card with the rest of the races being in Benchmark grade, the track is rated a soft 5 and the weather looks fine. Follow me below as I outline my best betting spots on the card!

Sale R4 - Ladbrokes Hub Mdn Plate (1717m)

Selections:
#5 - Upwoods (BEST BET) - $1.90
#4 - Lavish Thinker  - $3.30
#3 - Hollandia - $8.50
#7 - Gallium - $11.00

BEST BET - #5 - Upwoods (BEST BET)
Upwoods looks like a very good thing on paper. The price and Kent trained three year old is having his second start since changing camps and was very good when resuming / debuting for the stable. He missed the jump and settled deep but kept working through the run to find the leaders at the 1000m mark and just kept working to come second there. He was the only on pacer to survive into the finish then at the Mile and looks very suited now going out in trip, will be fitter and better for the experience. I suspect he will be a lot shorter when they jump.

THE DANGER - #4 - Lavish Thinker
The progressive P Stokes three year old Lavish Thinker has been put forward for this race under Zac Spain and must be respected with an inform jockey and flying stable. He made his return to the races after a long 17 week spell two weeks back at Geelong and just battled there in an even effort. He should be better for the run second up now, is fitter and gets a jockey upgrade, I like his chances.

VALUE BET  - #3 - Hollandia
Hollandia looks like she will go on to do good things for the Mick Moroney camp after making her debut at the races on the Synthetic at Pakenham and was far from disgraced there. She set wide and deep from the wide gate before putting in a big run to start closing the gap inside the last 100m but was just too far away then to really get into the race. Regardless, it was a strong debut and she will be sure to improve into this now, small field and not overly deep race, she will have her chance.

Sale R5 - Ladbrokes Communities (Bm64) (1717m)

Selections:
#7 - Sir Rockford (NEXT BEST) - $2.80
#6 - Satin Image - $4.80
#5 - Satin Image - $7.00
#3 - Remigius - $8.50

BEST BET - #7 - Sir Rockford (NEXT BEST)
Another early favourite that I am keen to secure the price on is Sir Rockford who takes a big step down in competition for this. He has been racing in town with his last run on the Hillside at Sandown in the Heavy being very good, coming second in a brave effort over the 1800m. Before then he motored home over the Mile at Werribee. I think back in grade, proven that he handles the wet and third up now he will be very hard to beat.

THE DANGER - #6 - Satin Image
Another who has recently proven themselves as a wet tracker is Satin Image who comes into this third up and off the back of a strong win at the Mile at Pakenham. That was in this grade but in some better company when he took control of the race at the 400m and kicked away through the line to score dominantly. Will be fitter third up, has ticked off handling the wet ground and should look good here.

VALUE BET  - #5 - Red On Red
Red on Red has looked very good since coming back to the races after a short break in her last two runs. He came from far back at Pakenham two runs ago, swinging out wide on the turn and powering home to end up third. Next run was at Moe in a big field at the mile last week when he came from out wide again to start his run inside the last 200m but peaked just a tad early and found one better when second there. I think he’s at a very good price and will be read for this trip now.

Sale R6 - Ladbrokes Racing Club (Bm64) (2200m)

Selections:
#1 - Flying Basil - $5.00
#3 - Sound Of Cannons - $6.00
#2 - Baronova (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) - $9.50
#8 - Highland Hill - $3.80

BEST BET - #1  - Flying Basil
I think flying Basil should go very well here off the back of a smart win at Bairnsdale over this distance at the beginning of the month where she was dropping back from some very good staying performances in town at Flemington and had far too much class for them there. Before then she was in races such as the VOBIS Gold Heath and I think in this field she should still look very strong.

THE DANGER - #3 - Sound Of Cannons
I am keen to see what Sound Of Cannons does here fourth up after changing camps before resuming back to the races and scoring dominantly first up in April. He has since been around the mark at Sandown Hillside and Cranbourne over 2400m and 2600m respectively but hasn’t been in the finish. I think with a step down in competition now, as well as hard fitness fourth up he should be ultra competitive here.

VALUE BET - #2 - Baronova (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY)
Baranova resumed for more than a year long spell during the Warrnambool carnival at the beginning of this month and wasn’t disgraced there, just plugging alone at the 2000m in the mud. She has shown plenty of ability in previous preparations and generally needs the first up run to get going so I wouldn’t be counting her out on the run alone. She’s with Maher and Eustace now and Ben Allen gets the booking, wouldn’t surprise me to see her finish over the top of these.

Best Promotions for Sale Racecourse

Promotions are traditionally the primary way for punters to create an edge over the bookies, as they can save your cash when your runner fails to win, in the instance of Unibet they often offer 2nd and 3rd money back in bonus bets for a selection of races on the midweek and Provincial racing days. Coupled with their generous odds I have to put them as the top bookie promotion wise at the moment for Australian racing.

If you are looking for the best promotions this week for Wednesday's racing I wouldn’t look past Unibet, often they offer odds boosts in addition to the money back promotions. Don’t forget to check your account as well for personal offers.

Promotions often change so make sure you sign up at unibet.com.au to see what promotions are applicable to you and you may even be surprised to find some promotions that weren’t mentioned here!
