Wednesday Racing Tips - Sandown Hillside Racecourse 06/09/23

Big Midweek card down in Victoria this Wednesday at Sandown Hillside with a bunch of high level racing on the program as we are well underway into the Group 1 races season and Spring racing. Plenty of runners are those who look to be progressing towards high level Saturday grade racing and some who are coming back to this midweek metro level. Either way, it’s going to prove to be a super competitive card and I am keen to get stuck into things so follow me below as I outline my best betting spots.

BEST BET - #1 - Binotto (NEXT BEST) 
Binotto should look super sharp in this field having just his second career start for Anthony and Sam Freedman and I think she should improve sharply here off the back of a debut at Cranbourne just over two weeks ago where he started a powerful run cutting inside to the rail on the turn but was held up at a crucial stage and managed to beat all but the winner where he really would have won with clear air. He’ll have plenty more to offer second up now out another 200m looks well suited to his run style.

THE DANGER - #5 - Gold Bullion 
Gold Bullion looks set to peak here third up and steps out for the Waterhouse and Bott giants and hasn’t put in a bad effort in his two career starts so far, having finished in the placings in both and now shapes up hard fit and ready to win after running up to win in the dying strides last time out over the 1300m. He now looks well suited to the step up in trip and will have the fitness to be in the finish here. Just not sure if I can take the price.

VALUE BET  - #7 - Limburg  
Limburg is another who should be getting to around his peak in this field and he’s had two runs back from a spell this time in when looking to really click up between runs last time out when stepping out to this distance second up at Newcastle about a week ago and kept battling away in the straight after a tough run out wide to place there.

BEST BET - #2 - Eternal Flame
Eternal Flame looks like quite an impressive horse for Mick Kent and I think is the straight bat option in this field and looks like he’s going to be onto bigger things having already won two and placed a close second in five career starts and now he comes into this second up off the back of a 22 week spell where he resumed a winner over the 1200m and won with a bit in hand there when finishing strongly through the line. He shapes up well here and if there’s no second up syndrome he will be tough to beat.

THE DANGER - #8 - Jennipending
Jennipending looks like a super horse for Maher and Eustace who comes into this second up and ready to win. He won on debut at Pakenham in mid March before being sent away for a spell and resumed mid last month at this track over the 1200m where he clicked up massively on the turn but was held up at a crucial stage between the 400-200m and powered home into second in an effort he really should have won. He’ll look the winner at least some of the way here under Bates’ steering.

VALUE BET  - #5 - Magic Chloe (ROUGHIE OF THE DAY) 
Magic Chloe rates highly here for the Presuker stable and has already won two and placed runner up in three of her seven career starts. She comes here third up and ready to peak after resuming from a year long spell and nearly winning her first up run. She came to this track and trip when looking very strong in the run, doing a tonne of early work and continuing to be solid through the line out wide. She looks hard fit and ready to win off the back of that and I am keen to have something on.

BEST BET - #10 - Sir Rockford 
Legend of Dubai shapes up very well here for Anthony and Sam Freedman and I think that he is one of the better betting spots on the program. He’s had two runs back from a spell, the first at this course over the 1400m where he clearly really needed the run before stepping out at the Mile at The Valley where he put in a fantastic effort to place second, being held up for a long time at a crucial stage where he otherwise would have won. He was super strong through the line, hard fit third up and looks well suited to the step out in trip.

THE DANGER - #6 - Red Phantom  
Red Phantom has been up for some time but looks well suited to pick up another win here. He resumed off a short four week break when clocking two wins in a row on the Ballarat Synthetic before stepping off the synthetic to Morphetville where he led, controlled the race and was just overrun late. He then stepped back onto the synthetic over the 1500m last time out where he again fought hard to just go down late into second place but is right at his best now. He looks well placed with Egan stepping on for the ride to go over here.

VALUE BET - #2 - Flossing 
Flossing looks like a runner who can hit back hard at odds here coming back from racing on the Synthetic where he was four weeks between runs and stepped out over the 1500m to finish last in a small field of five where he never really was in the race and clearly didn’t handle the synthetic. Before then he won over this track / trip in this grade and I’m sure he will put in a solid effort now back onto the course he likes the most.
